That means that the goals of the program will always fall flat. And then the goals you have for your employees don't come to fruition - you'll either feel like your begging them to participate or that you're offering them benefits they don't want (and don't use)! Either way, it's a waste of time, money, and effort! Corporate wellness is more than benefits or perks. It's more than healthy snacks or gym discounts. And it certainly isn't One Size Fits All! Your organization is unique. This book shows you a customizable road map to guide you in creating a corporate wellness program that's right for your company, no matter its size. You will create clear goals, make decisions based on data, have fun when implementing the program, and remember to adjust as you go so you can improve your results. Alison Brehme brings an all-new approach to employee wellness that is easy to understand, implement, and get results. She's a Certified Corporate Wellness Consultant with over fifteen years' experience in corporate advertising so she's experienced first-hand workaholism, chronic pain, and saw how burnout and stress took a toll on her own health as well as the health of her colleagues.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Featuring case vignettes from nearly 30 years of Dr. Yudofsky's clinical practice and incorporating the knowledge of gifted clinicians, educators, and research scientists with whom he has collaborated throughout that time, Fatal Flaws: Navigating Destructive Relationships With People With Disorders of Personality and Character uniquely captures the rapidly increasing body of clinical and research information about people with severe and persistent personality and character disorders. Within these pages, the author brings to life the psychopathologies of personality and character disorders through vivid vignettes based on composites of his many patients and their most important relationships -- while meticulously changing the identifying facts and relevant details to protect confidentiality. Covering the clinical course, treatment, genetics, biology, psychology, and destructive consequences of hysterical (histrionic), narcissistic, antisocial, paranoid, obsessive-compulsive, addictive, borderline, and schizotypal personality disorders, Fatal Flaws stands out in the literature for these powerful reasons: It is written for an unusually broad audience, from mental health students and trainees of all disciplines, to highly experienced clinicians, to patients who suffer from or are in destructive relationships with people with personality disorders. It is a hybrid -- part psychiatric textbook for clinicians and part self-help manual for patients and clients with personality and character disorders. It is designed to supplement treatment by providing patients with practical, evidence-based information about personality disorders and character flaws. It is particularly valuable to patients who are in psychotherapy, in part, because they are entangled in destructive relationships with people with disorders of personality and/or character. It is written in the first person, with the author directly communicating with a patient who either has a personality or character disorder or is in an important relationship with a person who has such a disorder. It is useful for people who are uncertain whether they or their loved ones have personality or character disorders, and who want to know more about these conditions and their treatments before making a decision about securing the help of a mental health professional. Fatal Flaws: Navigating Destructive Relationships With People With Disorders of Personality and Character is a compelling volume that provides the essential information and a realistic sense of the clinical experience required to inform, orient, and support novice mental health professionals and seasoned practitioners alike as they face the ongoing challenges of treating patients or clients with personality or character disorders. It should also prove to be an invaluable resource for those who wish practical and effective help in understanding and changing their destructive relationships with people who have severe and persistent disorders of personality and/or character.

Book excerpt: As business practices increasingly move to humanize the workplace, boundaries between private and public life are undergoing redefinition. Nowhere in contemporary business are the boundaries shifting more rapidly than in the area of human resource services. In the past decade, the growth of corporate programs to address social needs among employees has been explosive. A Fatal Embrace? defines reasons for this phenomenon, which has become a significant trend in professional management in Western societies. A Fatal Embrace? is directed at the current proliferation of personal development programs to improve and spur growth in employees' capabilities. Such services include health benefits, family-care arrangements, employee assistance programs, and leadership training. This trend reflects an underlying assumption that the corporation is responsible for promoting a symbiosis of person and economics. By helping employees become healthier, more relaxed, and more creative, the corporation develops stronger economic performers. A Fatal Embrace? will serve as a catalyst for further research and analysis in the area of human resource programs and is an important book to be read by economists, sociologists, and professionals in business and management.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born in Oakland, California in 1927 the author received his High School education in California before joining the Marines at 17 before the end of WW 2. While pursuing vocal studies in Los Angeles he accepted an LDS Mission starting in Buffalo, NY. Finding many inconsistencies among missionaries he concluded to get his own witness. With 3 days of fasting and prayer he read the BOM relying on Moroni's promise of asking God to reveal the truth of the BOM. Positive confirmation never came. The Mission President advised him to complete his mission saying he needn't teach anything he didn't believe. A missionary chorus was formed and the choice made to tour his final months as soloist with the Utah Centennial Chorus. After his mission he appeared in a Broadway Musical. He left for Milan, Italy in 1952 meeting his future wife on the ship. After his operatic debut in Spain, successful engagements followed that soon led to Berlin and a three year contract at the Vienna State Opera. While singing in Rome a screen test led to Director William Wyler choosing Claude for the role of Jesus in the Academy Award film 'Ben Hur'. After the 'Ben Hur' experience Claude made another BOM attempt with a 3 day fast/prayer at the Holy Trinity chapel of St. Catherine Monastery at Mount Sinai, Egypt. As Dramatic Tenor he sang opposite such sopranos as Birgit Nilsson, Renata Tabaldi, Joan Southerland; as Tristan, Otello, Siegfried, Parsifal etc; at Bayreuth, La Scala and most major European opera houses. After retiring, he attended his local Ward with family, becoming counselor in the Sunday school until he felt enough was enough. Conducting a Testimony meeting he bore his lack of testimony publicly asking for excommunication as the only way to remove oneself from church rolls.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because most people who are diagnosed with MS are between the ages of 15-55 years, the disease has a significant impact, not only on the individual with the disease, but also on the family members and loved ones whose lives are interwoven with them. Families experiencing multiple sclerosis often find themselves in uncharted territory. Prior patterns of interacting with each other may no longer work; roles often shift with dramatic emotional impact; guilt, anger, sadness, and a sense of burden may create a barrier to intimacy, joy, growth, and family unity. There are ways out of this debilitating situation, and many families have restored their balance, humor, productivity and family solidarity. Multiple Sclerosis: A Guide for Families can lead the way for your family to strengthen its coping skills and to receive targeted information about the disease and its ramifications. This complete yet highly readable guide for families living with multiple sclerosis addresses these issues and more. Families must learn how to strike a reasonable balance between the interests and needs of its members, and to accommodate the limitations imposed by MS without allowing them to impact every aspect of family life. This is easier said than done, and extensive discussions consider how the basic goals of living with this chronic disease can be met.

Book excerpt: With one side of the political aisle proposing increasingly more socialistic and anti-capitalistic ideas, the other side has been quick to defend our country’s great economic model, with good reason. Capitalism--spanning a spectrum from laissez faire to authoritarian--shapes the market economies of all the wealthiest and fastest-growing nations. But does that mean it is perfect as is, and that we would not all benefit from an honest evaluation and reconstruction of the free market system that has shaped our country’s way of economic growth? The truth is, trouble is cracking capitalism’s shiny veneer. In the US, Europe, and Japan, economic growth has slowed down. Wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few; natural resources are exploited for short-term profit; and good jobs are hard to find. In Confronting Capitalism, business expert Philip Kotler explains 14 major problems undermining capitalism, including:• Persistent and increasing poverty• Automation’s effects on job creation• High debt burdens• Steep environmental costs• Boom-bust economic cycles• And moreBut this landmark book does not stop with merely revealing the problems. It also delivers a heartening message: We can turn things around! Movements toward shared prosperity and a higher purpose are reinvigorating companies large and small, while proposals abound on government policies that offer protections without stagnation. Kotler identifies the best ideas, linking private and public initiatives into a force for positive change, and offers suggestions for returning to a healthier, more sustainable capitalism that works for all.

This book contains 43 chapters; a total of 21 are from the first two editions, eleven were written specifically for the third edition, and eleven new chapters were exclusively written for this new fourth edition. While savoring the still pertinent, meaningful and relevant-to-today materials from the previous editions, there are nine new updates, written by an all-star team of experts in their respective areas. The topics include history and philosophy, structure and organization, client services and characteristics, program planning and evaluation, professional and paraprofessional training and development, special issues, selected examples and future directions. An excellent textbook for college and university courses and preparation source, this book is a must for professionals wanting to be up-to-date on employee assistance programming, for students in graduate courses and seminars, for college and university courses, and in-service training and continuing education programs.
