Book Synopsis The Father Factor by : Stephan B. Poulter, Ph.D
Download or read book The Father Factor written by Stephan B. Poulter, Ph.D and published by Prometheus Books. This book was released on 2010-12 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The father factor is the conscious understanding, awareness, and appreciation of the critical influence that your father had, still has, or could have in your career development and future potential. Noting that the father-son or father-daughter relationship is one of the least understood relationships in adult life, Dr. Poulter helps you become acutely aware of the immeasurable impact (negative or positive) that your father has on your ability to relate to other people. From this recognition you will also learn to move past the career roadblocks that frequently stem from the lingering effects of your father''s influence. Defining five main styles of fathering, Dr. Poulter devotes a chapter each to: The Superachiever Father The Time Bomb Father The Passive Father The Absent Father (whether physically or emotionally) The Compassionate / Mentor Father. By becoming aware of how your father related to you, particularly in a destructive relationship, you''ll understand how your career relationships in many ways mirror your degree of comfort with your father''s emotional legacy. In this way, career roadblocks-often based on interactions with people on the job-will be more easily transformed into career building blocks that will lead to advancement and success.

Book excerpt: Every president has had some experience as a parent. Of the 43 men who have served in the nation's highest office, 38 have fathered biological children and the other five adopted children. Each president's parenting style reveals much about his beliefs as well as his psychological make-up. James Garfield enjoyed jumping on the bed with his kids. FDR's children, on the other hand, had to make appointments to talk to him. In a lively narrative, based on research in archives around the country, Kendall shows presidential character in action. Readers will learn which type of parent might be best suited to leading the American people and, finally, how the fathering experiences of our presidents have forever changed the course of American history.

Download or read book Heading North written by Donald R. Belik and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2020-05-17 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Donald R. Belik and four of his friends took their first fishing trip in August 1967 as a way to celebrate their graduation from high school. The idea was to enjoy one last time together, but their journey to the Bottle Lakes twenty miles north of Park Rapids, Minnesota, left such a vivid impression on them that they made plans to go there year after year. For the next fifty years, the friends would find a way to traverse the same landscape, going back to enjoy heaven on earth once again. Among tall pines, colorful maples, crystal-clear water, fresh air, foggy mornings, and crisp and cool evenings, they would savor a glorious week of fishing, camaraderie, and rekindled friendship. This book is a refreshing account of a tradition that stood the test of until their fiftieth year getting together at the same place in 2017. It highlights how five friends did not let a changing world deter them from appreciating what makes life worth living.

Book Synopsis Homestead Homilies by : Barry Blackstone
Download or read book Homestead Homilies written by Barry Blackstone and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-01-31 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relive through reminiscing and remembering, a Maine pastor's recollections of boyhood experiences that turned into a minister's messages in old age. After five decades (Barry's first message was preached in 1966), travel back in time with a lifelong Maineaic to his home place, the Blackstone homestead of Perham, Maine. What sparked these homilies was his inheritance of seven acres of the family farm, homesteaded in 1861, and the receiving of his grandparent's house built in 1924 at the death of his Uncle Paul. You will probably come to the same conclusion as this coastal Maine pastor--that his seminary training began long before he attended a Bible school in South Carolina in the early 1970s. Flash back with him to the 1950s and 1960s when spiritual lessons were everywhere on his rural potato and dairy farm. Pastor Blackstone didn't know it then, but realizes now that he was surrounded by family Bible teachers and friendly Biblical instructors that eventually would inspire this series of sermons. Homestead Homilies is a collection of scriptural observations inspired by a dog named Rover, an uncle named Read, a moonlit night, a barnyard hedge, a day plowing, a grandmother's helpful hand, a bee hive, a simple prayer, a sparrow's song, and many more simple events in a past age where homilies were being preached and now eventually heard. It is the author's prayer that these simple sermons will provoke the reader to remember long lost messages from their distant past.

Valle Egypt is a case study that affords readers the opportunity to better understand the serious consequences of financial elder abuse while providing an increased awareness of how to mitigate this escalating problem. The story presents a legal case, calling attention to the mental capacity of an aged parent, undue influence by children, and breach of fiduciary duty by the trustees.Illustrative of how unethical business practices may impact untold generations to follow, this case study highlights how financial elder abuse, perpetrated by a family member, was aided by a lawyer employed by a prestigious law firm.
Book Synopsis The Sex Life of Andy Ashling: Volume Two by : Andy Ashling
Download or read book The Sex Life of Andy Ashling: Volume Two written by Andy Ashling and published by BookCountry. This book was released on 2013-03-12 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sex Life of Andy Ashling is a serial memoir. Each digital volume contains several episodes. Each episode is a true story. Volume Two contains two episodes. In episode four: The Girl up the Street, nine-year-old Andy meets Wanda, a girl he hopes will satisfy his curiosity over the other gender's anatomy. After all, his experiences with the Blond kid and the circle jerkers in episode three left him desiring some "girl" time. Andy also finds himself in a more bizarre experience on a farm after a failed artificial insemination. In episode five, Girlfriends, Andy has his hands full--literally. He tries to find a real girlfriend. Maybe it's more accurate to say he tries to find out how far he can go with the girls he befriends at school. Once again, Andy's thinking hard all right. He's just thinking with the wrong head. Beginning with his first sexually-charged encounter when he was four, the author writes honestly and candidly about each subsequent new adventure, until he settles down somewhere in his late forties. By exploring his sex life, Andy hopes to arrive at hidden meanings or universal truths. The episodes link together, like beads on a rosary (the author was raised in a Catholic home). A bit of a warning: more than once, the author finds himself the victim of unfortunate incidents—molestations, for example. Are these stories pornographic? The depictions of sex in these volumes are more of a personal psychological study rather than pornography, or even eroticism. However, pornography is somewhat subjective. That said, the author writes in the mindset he possessed at the time events took place. Some may find that perspective evidence of a deviant mind. We don't think so, but you be the judge. Names have been changed to protect the identities of the individuals described in these true stories. Dennis Fleming, Editor
Book Synopsis The Man Who Straightened Nails by : Mary Abbott
Download or read book The Man Who Straightened Nails written by Mary Abbott and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have a memory. It was a wet November day. The wind was relentless.... bitter and cold. My Father and I stood outside of what was left of the old barn. It was skeletal, its days of glory long past. Our once magnificent house had been bulldozed to the ground by the present owner. The source of all my childhood memories had become nothing more than the investment of a stranger. Today Dad had on his usual old green hat, but I had seldom seen the ear flaps pulled down. His jacket was too thin for the weather. Conversation was difficult; the wind carried away words the moment they left our lips. Three months had passed since the tragic death of my mother. For the first time in eighty-eight years my father now lived alone. I looked into his face and saw his struggle, and that's when I knew I would never forget this moment. It would be a heart memory. This man had always done the right thing, followed all the rules and given freely without expecting re-payment or accolades of any kind. Did my late Mother's words ever filter through his mind, No family can continue to be so lucky? Did he think the pain had ended? During the coming years would he ever question the God he believed so strongly in? At times I know I did.
