Book Synopsis General Theory of Light Propagation and Imaging Through the Atmosphere by : T. Stewart McKechnie
Download or read book General Theory of Light Propagation and Imaging Through the Atmosphere written by T. Stewart McKechnie and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-06 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition lays out an updated version of the general theory of light propagation and imaging through Earth’s turbulent atmosphere initially developed in the late ‘70s and ‘80s, with additional applications in the areas of laser communications and high-energy laser beam propagation. New material includes a chapter providing a comprehensive mathematical tool set for precisely characterizing image formation with the anticipated Extremely Large Telescopes (ELTS), enabling a staggering range of star image shapes and sizes; existing chapters rewritten or modified so as to supplement the mathematics with clearer physical insight through written and graphical means; a history of the development of present-day understanding of light propagation and imaging through the atmosphere as represented by the general theory described. Beginning with the rudimentary, geometrical-optics based understanding of a century ago, it describes advances made in the 1960s, including the development of the ‘Kolmogorov theory,’ the deficiencies of which undermined its credibility, but not before it had done enormous damage, such as construction of a generation of underperforming ‘light bucket’ telescopes. The general theory requires no a priori turbulence assumptions. Instead, it provides means for calculating the turbulence properties directly from readily-measurable properties of star images.

Book Synopsis Atmosphere, Weather and Climate by : Roger Graham Barry
Download or read book Atmosphere, Weather and Climate written by Roger Graham Barry and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1992 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An introduction to weather processes and climatic conditions. Beginning with a discussion of atmospheric composition and energy, the authors turn to manifestations and circulation of atmospheric moisture, including atmospheric stability and precipitation patterns in space and time. "Atmosphere, Weather and Climate" provides a thorough introduction to weather processes and climatic conditions. Since the last edition, the recognition of the reality and possible effects of human activities on the environment has revolutionized attitudes to the study of atmosphere and of world climate.

Book Synopsis Climate Change and Agrometeorology by : Latief Ahmad
Download or read book Climate Change and Agrometeorology written by Latief Ahmad and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-19 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph focuses on agricultural meteorology and climate change and its impacts on different crops. Comprising of chapters from experts, the book discusses and provides first-hand information to the long term shifts in weather patterns and temperature impacting soil, water and crops. Each chapter focuses in detail on the impact of plant- water – soil nexus and climate change on agriculture and food security. Covering the basic concepts about the temperature, pressure and humidity correlation with the increased demands of food, the book explores in detail the impact of adverse climatic conditions like drought, floods, increasing levels of carbon dioxide emissions and other simultaneous effects like soil fertility depletion on the cropping systems and overall crop productivity. The book touches the challenges of climate change, adaptive methods, mitigation strategies, with careful explanation of governance, plans and policies required to provide guidelines to stake holders so they can best prepare for the negative climate change impacts. While touching the agricultural challenges faced globally due to climate change, the book serves as a reference book for students, researchers and policy makers, involved in horticulture, agriculture and environmental sciences and climate change.
