Book Synopsis Archaeological Networks and Social Interaction by : Lieve Donnellan
Download or read book Archaeological Networks and Social Interaction written by Lieve Donnellan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-04-03 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Archaeological Networks and Social Interaction focuses on conceptualisations of human interaction, human-thing entanglement, material affordances and agency. Network concepts in the archaeological discipline are ubiquitous these days. They range from loose concepts, used as metaphors to address a notion of connectivity, to highly formal and mathematically complex predictions of human behaviour. These different networked worlds sometimes clash and rarely converge. Archaeologists interested in network analysis, however, have achieved a much better understanding of the implications of adopting formal methods for studying social interaction and there have been theoretical advancements realising a better synergy between different theoretical perspectives. These nascent concerns are explored further in this volume with regional specialists exploring case studies from Prehistory to the Middle Ages throughout the Ancient and New Worlds, outlining how formal network approaches contribute to studying social interaction archaeologically. This book will be of interest to archaeologists wishing to access the latest research on networks and interconnectivity and how these approaches have been productively modified to archaeological research.
Book Synopsis Ultra Wide Band Antennas by : Xavier Begaud
Download or read book Ultra Wide Band Antennas written by Xavier Begaud and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-04 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultra Wide Band Technology (UWB) has reached a level of maturity that allows us to offer wireless links with either high or low data rates. These wireless links are frequently associated with a location capability for which ultimate accuracy varies with the inverse of the frequency bandwidth. Using time or frequency domain waveforms, they are currently the subject of international standards facilitating their commercial implementation. Drawing up a complete state of the art, Ultra Wide Band Antennas is aimed at students, engineers and researchers and presents a summary of internationally recognized studies.
Download or read book Alur Society written by Aidan Southall and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2004 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alur Society became a classic for a number of reasons. Being much more than a descriptive account of an African society, it was the first intensive ethnography to adopt the ideas of Max Weber. It pioneered the idea that religion and ritual could be the basis of political action. It also showed how state systems could evolve not just on the basis of conquest but as a result of societies without kings inviting those with kings to govern them. Author Aidan Southall's theory of the segmentary state was adopted by political anthropologists throughout the subject and also by political scientists, being applied not just to Africa but also to India and other parts of the world. The book was able to arrive at such long-lasting and imaginative conclusions through the use of ethnographic material of a quality rarely surpassed. It is moreover arguably the best book in social anthropology of a Nilotic-speaking people. Southall's own command of their language and his overall scholarly knowledge of Nilotes is also unsurpassed.

Book Synopsis Yearbook of Morphology 2000 by : Geert Booij
Download or read book Yearbook of Morphology 2000 written by Geert Booij and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-09-30 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revival of interest in morphology has occurred during recent years. The Yearbook of Morphology series, published since 1988, has proven to be an eminent support for this upswing of morphological research, since it contains articles on topics which are central in the current theoretical debates which are frequently referred to. The Yearbook of Morphology 2000 focuses on the relation between morphology and syntax. First, a number of articles is devoted to the ways in which morphological features can be expressed in the grammar of natural languages, both by morphological and syntactic devices. This also raises the more general issue of how we have to conceive of the relation between form and (grammatical) meaning. Several formalisms for inflectional paradigms are proposed. In addition, this volume deals with the demarcation between morphology and syntax: to which extent can syntactic principles and generalizations be used for a proper account of the morphology of a language? The languages discussed are Potawatomi, Latin, Greek, Romanian, West-Greenlandic, and German. A special feature of this volume is a section devoted to the analysis of the morphosyntax of a number of Austronesian languages, which are also relevant for deepening our insights into the relation between our morphology and syntax. Audience: Theoretical, descriptive, and historical linguists, morphologists, phonologists, computational linguists, and psycholinguists will find this book of interest.
