Muchos de estos mitos se escribieron por primera vez en una colección llamada Samguk Yusa, o "Recuerdos de los Tres Reinos", que fue compilada por un monje budista llamado Il-yeon a finales del siglo XIII. El cambio de creencias religiosas a través de los siglos tuvo su impacto dentro de la mitología coreana.
