Book Synopsis Meshing, Geometric Modeling and Numerical Simulation 1 by : Houman Borouchaki
Download or read book Meshing, Geometric Modeling and Numerical Simulation 1 written by Houman Borouchaki and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-11-29 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Triangulations, and more precisely meshes, are at the heart of many problems relating to a wide variety of scientific disciplines, and in particular numerical simulations of all kinds of physical phenomena. In numerical simulations, the functional spaces of approximation used to search for solutions are defined from meshes, and in this sense these meshes play a fundamental role. This strong link between the meshes and functional spaces leads us to consider advanced simulation methods in which the meshes are adapted to the behaviors of the underlying physical phenomena. This book presents the basic elements of this meshing vision.
Book Synopsis Well-Posed Linear Systems by : Olof Staffans
Download or read book Well-Posed Linear Systems written by Olof Staffans and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-02-24 with total page 804 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many infinite-dimensional linear systems can be modelled in a Hilbert space setting. Others, such as those dealing with heat transfer or population dynamics, need to be set more generally in Banach spaces. This is the first book dealing with well-posed infinite-dimensional linear systems with an input, a state, and an output in a Hilbert or Banach space setting. It is also the first to describe the class of non-well-posed systems induced by system nodes. The author shows how standard finite-dimensional results from systems theory can be extended to these more general classes of systems, and complements them with new results which have no finite-dimensional counterpart. Much of the material presented is original, and many results have never appeared in book form before. A comprehensive bibliography rounds off this work which will be indispensable to all working in systems theory, operator theory, delay equations and partial differential equations.
Book Synopsis Modern Actuarial Theory and Practice, Second Edition by : Philip Booth
Download or read book Modern Actuarial Theory and Practice, Second Edition written by Philip Booth and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-12-28 with total page 848 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the years since the publication of the best-selling first edition, the incorporation of ideas and theories from the rapidly growing field of financial economics has precipitated considerable development of thinking in the actuarial profession. Modern Actuarial Theory and Practice, Second Edition integrates those changes and presents an up-to-date, comprehensive overview of UK and international actuarial theory, practice and modeling. It describes all of the traditional areas of actuarial activity, but in a manner that highlights the fundamental principles of actuarial theory and practice as well as their economic, financial, and statistical foundations.
Book Synopsis Neurologic Complications of Cancer by : Lisa M. DeAngelis
Download or read book Neurologic Complications of Cancer written by Lisa M. DeAngelis and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2009 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patients with cancer can suffer from a bewildering variety of neurologic signs and symptoms. The neurologic symptoms are often more disabling than the primary cancer. Symptoms including confusion, seizures, pain and paralysis may be a result of either metastases to the nervous system or one of several nonmetastatic complications of cancer. The physician who promptly recognizes neurologic symptoms occurring in a patient with cancer and makes an early diagnosis may prevent the symptoms from becoming permanently disabling or sometimes lethal. This monograph, an update of the first edition published in 1995, is divided into 3 sections. The first classifies the wide variety of disorders that can cause neurologic symptoms the patient with cancer, discusses the pathophysiology of nervous system metastases, the pathophysiology and treatment of brain edema and the approach to supportive care of common neurologic symptoms such as seizures, pain, and side effects of commonly used supportive care agents. The second section is devoted to nervous system metastases, addressing in turn, brain, spinal cord, meningeal and cranial and peripheral nerve metastases, describing clinical symptoms, approach to diagnosis and current treatment. The third section addresses several nonmetastatic complications of cancer and includes sections on vascular disease, infections, metabolic and nutritional disorders, side chemotherapy, radiation and other diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The final chapter addresses paraneoplastic syndromes. The book is intended for practicing oncologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons and radiation oncologists as well as internists who treated patients with cancer. Our attempt was to write a book that would assist oncologists in understanding neurologic problems and neurologists in understanding oncologic problems. The book is also intended for physicians training to specialize in any of the above areas. It includes a practical approach to the diagnosis and management of patients with neurologic disease who are with known to have cancer or in whom cancer is suspected.

Book Synopsis Early Days in Complex Dynamics by : Daniel S. Alexander
Download or read book Early Days in Complex Dynamics written by Daniel S. Alexander and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of complex dynamics, whose roots lie in 19th-century studies of the iteration of complex function conducted by Koenigs, Schoder, and others, flourished remarkably during the first half of the 20th century, when many of the central ideas and techniques of the subject developed. This book paints a robust picture of the field of complex dynamics between 1906 and 1942 through detailed discussions of the work of Fatou, Julia, Siegel, and several others.

Book Synopsis Inverse Problems and Applications by : Gunther Uhlmann
Download or read book Inverse Problems and Applications written by Gunther Uhlmann and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inverse problems lie at the heart of contemporary scientific inquiry and technological development. Applications include a variety of medical and other imaging techniques, which are used for early detection of cancer and pulmonary edema, location of oil and mineral deposits in the Earth's interior, creation of astrophysical images from telescope data, finding cracks and interfaces within materials, shape optimization, model identification in growth processes, and modeling in the life sciences among others. The expository survey essays in this book describe recent developments in inverse problems and imaging, including hybrid or couple-physics methods arising in medical imaging, Calderon's problem and electrical impedance tomography, inverse problems arising in global seismology and oil exploration, inverse spectral problems, and the study of asymptotically hyperbolic spaces. It is suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in inverse problems and their applications.
