Book Synopsis Exponential Sums and their Applications by : N.M Korobov
Download or read book Exponential Sums and their Applications written by N.M Korobov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The method of exponential sums is a general method enabling the solution of a wide range of problems in the theory of numbers and its applications. This volume presents an exposition of the fundamentals of the theory with the help of examples which show how exponential sums arise and how they are applied in problems of number theory and its applications. The material is divided into three chapters which embrace the classical results of Gauss, and the methods of Weyl, Mordell and Vinogradov; the traditional applications of exponential sums to the distribution of fractional parts, the estimation of the Riemann zeta function; and the theory of congruences and Diophantine equations. Some new applications of exponential sums are also included. It is assumed that the reader has a knowledge of the fundamentals of mathematical analysis and of elementary number theory.

Book Synopsis The Diophantine Frobenius Problem by : Jorge L. Ramírez Alfonsín
Download or read book The Diophantine Frobenius Problem written by Jorge L. Ramírez Alfonsín and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2005-12-01 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the early part of the last century, Ferdinand Georg Frobenius (1849-1917) raised he following problem, known as the Frobenius Problem (FP): given relatively prime positive integers a1,...,an, find the largest natural number (called the Frobenius number and denoted by g(a1,...,an) that is not representable as a nonnegative integer combination of a1,...,an, . At first glance FP may look deceptively specialized. Nevertheless it crops up again and again in the most unexpected places and has been extremely useful in investigating many different problems. A number of methods, from several areas of mathematics, have been used in the hope of finding a formula giving the Frobenius number and algorithms to calculate it. The main intention of this book is to highlight such methods, ideas, viewpoints and applications to a broader audience.

Book Synopsis Analytic Methods for Diophantine Equations and Diophantine Inequalities by : H. Davenport
Download or read book Analytic Methods for Diophantine Equations and Diophantine Inequalities written by H. Davenport and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-02-07 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harold Davenport was one of the truly great mathematicians of the twentieth century. Based on lectures he gave at the University of Michigan in the early 1960s, this book is concerned with the use of analytic methods in the study of integer solutions to Diophantine equations and Diophantine inequalities. It provides an excellent introduction to a timeless area of number theory that is still as widely researched today as it was when the book originally appeared. The three main themes of the book are Waring's problem and the representation of integers by diagonal forms, the solubility in integers of systems of forms in many variables, and the solubility in integers of diagonal inequalities. For the second edition of the book a comprehensive foreword has been added in which three prominent authorities describe the modern context and recent developments. A thorough bibliography has also been added.
Book Synopsis Rational Points on Varieties by : Bjorn Poonen
Download or read book Rational Points on Varieties written by Bjorn Poonen and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2023-08-10 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is motivated by the problem of determining the set of rational points on a variety, but its true goal is to equip readers with a broad range of tools essential for current research in algebraic geometry and number theory. The book is unconventional in that it provides concise accounts of many topics instead of a comprehensive account of just one—this is intentionally designed to bring readers up to speed rapidly. Among the topics included are Brauer groups, faithfully flat descent, algebraic groups, torsors, étale and fppf cohomology, the Weil conjectures, and the Brauer-Manin and descent obstructions. A final chapter applies all these to study the arithmetic of surfaces. The down-to-earth explanations and the over 100 exercises make the book suitable for use as a graduate-level textbook, but even experts will appreciate having a single source covering many aspects of geometry over an unrestricted ground field and containing some material that cannot be found elsewhere. The origins of arithmetic (or Diophantine) geometry can be traced back to antiquity, and it remains a lively and wide research domain up to our days. The book by Bjorn Poonen, a leading expert in the field, opens doors to this vast field for many readers with different experiences and backgrounds. It leads through various algebraic geometric constructions towards its central subject: obstructions to existence of rational points. —Yuri Manin, Max-Planck-Institute, Bonn It is clear that my mathematical life would have been very different if a book like this had been around at the time I was a student. —Hendrik Lenstra, University Leiden Understanding rational points on arbitrary algebraic varieties is the ultimate challenge. We have conjectures but few results. Poonen's book, with its mixture of basic constructions and openings into current research, will attract new generations to the Queen of Mathematics. —Jean-Louis Colliot-Thélène, Université Paris-Sud A beautiful subject, handled by a master. —Joseph Silverman, Brown University
Book Synopsis Understanding Anatomy of Exponential Diophantine 3-Term Equations by : Rajen Merchant
Download or read book Understanding Anatomy of Exponential Diophantine 3-Term Equations written by Rajen Merchant and published by . This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is specially written for students and researchers in mathematics, particularly number theory. Professors and instructors teaching this subject will find it very useful. This monograph develops a clear understanding of the structure of the exponential diophantine 3-term equations and their solutions. Various components of an exponential diophantine equation and their roles are described in detail. A combinatorial approach is used to classify and analyze solutions to exponential diophantine 3-term equations. To classify these solutions, all possible ways these solutions can occur are examined. The analysis presented reveals that these solutions can be classified into three classes and six sub-classes. Properties of each class of solutions are described in detail. We observe that each exponential diophantine 3-term equation imposes its own requirements on its solutions. We discuss how these requirements of an exponential diophantine equation can affect solutions in each class. We apply the classification developed here to relate to the results for the Pythagorean equation, the Catalan equation, and the Ramanujan-Nagell equation. Finally, we employ the concepts developed in this monograph and present twelve proofs and four conjectures that help us analyze and understand the Fermat's Last Theorem and the Beal's conjecture. These four conjectures are much smaller in scope.
