Download or read book Unsteady Computational Fluid Dynamics in Aeronautics written by P.G. Tucker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-30 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and hybrids is a vibrant research area. This book runs through all the potential unsteady modelling fidelity ranges, from low-order to LES. The latter is probably the highest fidelity for practical aerospace systems modelling. Cutting edge new frontiers are defined. One example of a pressing environmental concern is noise. For the accurate prediction of this, unsteady modelling is needed. Hence computational aeroacoustics is explored. It is also emerging that there is a critical need for coupled simulations. Hence, this area is also considered and the tensions of utilizing such simulations with the already expensive LES. This work has relevance to the general field of CFD and LES and to a wide variety of non-aerospace aerodynamic systems (e.g. cars, submarines, ships, electronics, buildings). Topics treated include unsteady flow techniques; LES and hybrids; general numerical methods; computational aeroacoustics; computational aeroelasticity; coupled simulations and turbulence and its modelling (LES, RANS, transition, VLES, URANS). The volume concludes by pointing forward to future horizons and in particular the industrial use of LES. The writing style is accessible and useful to both academics and industrial practitioners. From the reviews: "Tucker's volume provides a very welcome, concise discussion of current capabilities for simulating and modellng unsteady aerodynamic flows. It covers the various pos sible numerical techniques in good, clear detail and presents a very wide range of practical applications; beautifully illustrated in many cases. A great achievement." Mark Savill FHEA, FRAeS, C.Eng, Professor of Computational Aerodynamics Design & Head of Power & Propulsion Sciences, Department of Power & Propulsion, School of Engineering, Cranfield University, Bedfordshire, U.K. "This is a very useful book with a wide coverage of many aspects in unsteady aerodynamics method development and applications for internal and external flows." L. He, Rolls-Royce/RAEng Chair of Computational Aerothermal Engineering, Oxford University, U.K. "This comprehensive book ranges from classical concepts in both numerical methods and turbulence modelling approaches for the beginner to latest state-of-the-art for the advanced practitioner and constitutes an extremely valuable contribution to the specific Computational Fluid Dynamics literature in Aeronautics. Student and expert alike will benefit greatly by reading it from cover to cover." Sébastien Deck, Onera, Meudon, France

This book was released on 2014-10-23 with total page 1397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: remove This Encyclopedia comes in 3 sets. To check out Set 1 and Set 3, please visit Set 1: Thermal Packaging Techniques and Set 3: Thermal Packaging Applications /remove Thermal and mechanical packaging - the enabling technologies for the physical implementation of electronic systems - are responsible for much of the progress in miniaturization, reliability, and functional density achieved by electronic, microelectronic, and nanoelectronic products during the past 50 years. The inherent inefficiency of electronic devices and their sensitivity to heat have placed thermal packaging on the critical path of nearly every product development effort in traditional, as well as emerging, electronic product categories.Successful thermal packaging is the key differentiator in electronic products, as diverse as supercomputers and cell phones, and continues to be of pivotal importance in the refinement of traditional products and in the development of products for new applications. The Encyclopedia of Thermal Packaging, compiled in four multi-volume sets (Set 1: Thermal Packaging Techniques, Set 2: Thermal Packaging Tools, Set 3: Thermal Packaging Applications, and Set 4: Thermal Packaging Configurations) will provide a comprehensive, one-stop treatment of the techniques, tools, applications, and configurations of electronic thermal packaging. Each of the author-written sets presents the accumulated wisdom and shared perspectives of a few luminaries in the thermal management of electronics.Set 2: Thermal Packaging ToolsThe second set in the encyclopedia, Thermal Packaging Tools, includes volumes dedicated to thermal design of data centers, techniques and models for the design and optimization of heat sinks, the development and use of reduced-order “compact” thermal models of electronic components, a database of critical material thermal properties, and a comprehensive exploration of thermally-informed electronic design. The numerical and analytical techniques described in these volumes are among the primary tools used by thermal packaging practitioners and researchers to accelerate product and system development and achieve “correct by design” thermal packaging solutions. The four sets in the Encyclopedia of Thermal Packaging will provide the novice and student with a complete reference for a quick ascent on the thermal packaging ';learning curve,'; the practitioner with a validated set of techniques and tools to face every challenge, and researchers with a clear definition of the state-of-the-art and emerging needs to guide their future efforts. This encyclopedia will, thus, be of great interest to packaging engineers, electronic product development engineers, and product managers, as well as to researchers in thermal management of electronic and photonic components and systems, and most beneficial to undergraduate and graduate students studying mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering.
Book Synopsis Direct and Large-Eddy Simulation XI by : Maria Vittoria Salvetti
Download or read book Direct and Large-Eddy Simulation XI written by Maria Vittoria Salvetti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-02 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers the proceedings of the 11th workshop on Direct and Large Eddy Simulation (DLES), which was held in Pisa, Italy in May 2017. The event focused on modern techniques for simulating turbulent flows based on the partial or full resolution of the instantaneous turbulent flow structures, as Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS), Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) or hybrid models based on a combination of LES and RANS approaches. In light of the growing capacities of modern computers, these approaches have been gaining more and more interest over the years and will undoubtedly be developed and applied further. The workshop offered a unique opportunity to establish a state-of-the-art of DNS, LES and related techniques for the computation and modeling of turbulent and transitional flows and to discuss about recent advances and applications. This volume contains most of the contributed papers, which were submitted and further reviewed for publication. They cover advances in computational techniques, SGS modeling, boundary conditions, post-processing and data analysis, and applications in several fields, namely multiphase and reactive flows, convection and heat transfer, compressible flows, aerodynamics of airfoils and wings, bluff-body and separated flows, internal flows and wall turbulence and other complex flows.
Book Synopsis Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Experiments 6 by : Wolfgang Rodi
Download or read book Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Experiments 6 written by Wolfgang Rodi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-05-05 with total page 1011 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proceedings of the world renowned ERCOFTAC (International Symposium on Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Measurements). The proceedings include papers dealing with the following areas of turbulence: · Eddy-viscosity and second-order RANS models · Direct and large-eddy simulations and deductions for conventional modelling · Measurement and visualization techniques, experimental studies · Turbulence control · Transition and effects of curvature, rotation and buoyancy on turbulence · Aero-acoustics · Heat and mass transfer and chemically reacting flows · Compressible flows, shock phenomena · Two-phase flows · Applications in aerospace engineering, turbomachinery and reciprocating engines, industrial aerodynamics and wind engineering, and selected chemical engineering problems Turbulence remains one of the key issues in tackling engineering flow problems. These problems are solved more and more by CFD analysis, the reliability of which depends strongly on the performance of the turbulence models employed. Successful simulation of turbulence requires the understanding of the complex physical phenomena involved and suitable models for describing the turbulent momentum, heat and mass transfer. For the understanding of turbulence phenomena, experiments are indispensable, but they are equally important for providing data for the development and testing of turbulence models and hence for CFD software validation. As in other fields of Science, in the rapidly developing discipline of turbulence, swift progress can be achieved only by keeping up to date with recent advances all over the world and by exchanging ideas with colleagues active in related fields.

Book Synopsis Heat Transfer Augmentation in Turbulent Flows by : Antanas Pedišius
Download or read book Heat Transfer Augmentation in Turbulent Flows written by Antanas Pedišius and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbulent flow is the most common form of motion of liquids and gases playing the role of the heat-transfer medium in thermal systems. The complexity of turbulent flow and the importance of hydrodynamics and heat transfer in practice inspired continuing research for methods of efficient heat augmentation by the Lithuanian Energy Institute. The solution of this problem was directly linked with the determination of the reaction of flow in the boundary layer to the effect of various factors and heat transfer rate under given conditions. The investigated factors included elevated degree of turbulence of the external flow as well as strong acceleration and turbulization of flow near the wall by surface roughness. The material in this volume shows that it is possible to control the efficiency of turbulent transfer when the vortical structure of the turbulent flow is known.
