Book Synopsis Experimental Investigation of Orthotropic Panel Flutter at Arbitrary Yaw Angles, and Comparison with Theory by : Peter Shyprykevich
Download or read book Experimental Investigation of Orthotropic Panel Flutter at Arbitrary Yaw Angles, and Comparison with Theory written by Peter Shyprykevich and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flutter characteristics for yaw angles between 15 deg and 90 deg were determined experimentally for two types of corrugation-stiffened panels: those with weak twisting stiffness and those with strong twisting stiffness. By mounting the panels on a remotely controlled turntable, good definition of the flutter boundaries was obtained by rotating the panels into and out of flutter. Flutter tests were conducted at M = 2 and M = 1.6. Before testing, vibration tests and analyses were also performed. The experimental flutter data is compared with flutter theory for orthotropic panels utilizing quasi-steady aerodynamics. Five different corrugated panels were tested consisting of one single skin panel having a length-to-width ratio of 5 on clamped supports and four different square double skin panels on discrete flexible supports. The investigation indicated that flutter speed for corrugated panels is highly dependent on yaw angle. Reasonable flutter correlation between analysis and test was obtained for moderate yaw angles, but extreme sensitivity to structural parameters made the correlation at large yaw angles uncertain.

Book Synopsis Supersonic Flutter of Rectangular Orthotropic Panels with Arbitrary Orientation of Orthotropicity by : John Michael Calligeros
Download or read book Supersonic Flutter of Rectangular Orthotropic Panels with Arbitrary Orientation of Orthotropicity written by John Michael Calligeros and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation is made of the supersonic flutter of flat, simply supported, rectangular, orthotropic panels, utilizing small deflection thin plate theory and piston theory aerodynamics. Stability boundaries are obtained showing the effects of rotating the panel principal axes with respect to the geometric axes. The role of damping and the effects of panel lengthwidth ratio are also examined. Solutions are obtained using the Principle of Minimum Potential Energy together with a sixteen-mode Rayleigh-Ritz procedure. Damped flutter boundaries are found by the Movchan-Houbolt method. Calculations are performed for two example orthotropically stiffened panels and for a basic unstiffened isotropic panel. It is concluded that aligning stiffeners parallel to the air stream direction is not always the preferred orientation. A preferred orientation depends on length-width ratio, amount of damping, and amount of orthotropicity present. (Author).
Book Synopsis Aeroelastic Vibrations and Stability of Plates and Shells by : Sergey D. Algazin
Download or read book Aeroelastic Vibrations and Stability of Plates and Shells written by Sergey D. Algazin and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-12-11 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Back-action of aerodynamics onto structures such as wings cause vibrations and may resonantly couple to them, thus causing instabilities (flutter) and endangering the whole structure. By careful choices of geometry, materials and damping mechanisms, hazardous effects on wind engines, planes, turbines and cars can be avoided. Besides an introduction into the problem of flutter, new formulations of flutter problems are given as well as a treatise of supersonic flutter and of a whole range of mechanical effects. Numerical and analytical methods to study them are developed and applied to the analysis of new classes of flutter problems for plates and shallow shells of arbitrary plane form. Specific problems discussed in the book in the context of numerical simulations are supplemented by Fortran code examples (available on the website).
