Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Last few years have seen rapid acceptance of high-definition television (HDTV) technology around the world. This technology has been hugely successful in delivering more realistic television experience at home and accurate imaging for professional applications. Adoption of high definition continues to grow as consumers demand enhanced features and greater quality of content. Following this trend, natural evolution of visualisation technologies will be in the direction of fully realistic visual experience and highly precise imaging. However, using the content of even higher resolution and quality is not straightforward as such videos require significantly higher access bandwidth and more processing power. Therefore, methods for radical reduction of video bandwidth are crucial for realisation of high visual quality. Moreover, it is desirable to look into other ways of accessing visual content, solution to which lies in innovative schemes for content delivery and consumption. This book presents selected chapters covering technologies that will enable greater flexibility in video content representation and allow users to access content from any device and to interact with it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an important and timely book. Students of organizational behavior for the last 15 years have been asking how to integrate the technology of data gathering and data analysis with critical organizational challenges. This book shows how to do that, using the field of customer service to illustrate the broader point. This volume allows lay readers to understand telemetry and helps them enhance their data-gathering activities to strengthen customer relations. Author of The Agenda Mover: When Your Good Idea Is Not Enough and Transforming the Clunky Organization: Pragmatic Skills for Breaking Inertia (Cornell University Press) Telemetry is an automated way of collecting data at remote sites or locations, and transmitting it to collectors at receiving site for monitoring, analyzing, and driving improvement actions. This book provides the necessary knowledge and information to understand the telemetry infrastructure and associated details. It will enable readers to implement a telemetry program to address customer experience pain and improve customer experience. The authors of this book have all served in different roles and capacities in one of Silicon Valley's premier technology companies. These roles include software engineering, customer assurance, quality management, technology development, and implementation. Their paths intersected in the area of quality management, and they have witnessed first-hand how the latest technology/market transitions around Internet of Things (IoT), digitization, and telemetry are impacting the company they work, as well as the high-tech industry and global economy as a whole. The real-time nature of data and the advent of machine-learning algorithms have set the stage for a new era that the authors call adaptive customer experience. The premise of this concept is that real-time availability of customer experience data opens the door for real-time responses based on machine-learning algorithms. This creates an unprecedented opportunity to change the relationship between customers and the systems they depend on in their digital world. The proliferation of sensors and improvements in data science capabilities are creating an environment where the possibilities for telemetry are limitless. The book provides several examples of use cases and applications that help bring telemetry to life.

Book excerpt: The main objective of the book is to present state-of-the-art research results and experience reports in the area of quality monitoring for customer experience management, addressing topics which are currently important, such as service-aware future Internet architecture for Quality of Experience (QoE) management on multimedia applications. In recent years, multimedia applications and services have experienced a sudden growth. Today, video display is not limited to the traditional areas of movies and television on TV sets, but these applications are accessed in different environments, with different devices and under different conditions. In addition, the continuous emergence of new services, along with increasing competition, is forcing network operators and service providers to focus all their efforts on customer satisfaction, although determining the QoE is not a trivial task. This book addresses the QoE for improving customer perception when using added value services offered by service providers, from evaluation to monitoring and other management processes.

Book excerpt: This book presents the development of a gaming quality model to predict the gaming Quality of Experience (QoE) of players that could be used for planning the network service or quality monitoring of cloud gaming services. The author presents a model that is developed following a modular structure approach that keeps the different types of impairments separately. The book shows how such a modular structure allows developing a sustainable model as each component can be updated by advances in that specific research area or technology. The presented gaming quality model takes into account two modules of video quality and input quality. The latter considers the interactivity aspects of gaming. The video quality module offers a series of models that differ depending on the level of access to the video stream information, allowing high flexibility for service providers regarding the positions of measuring points within their system. In summary, the present book focuses on (1) creation of multiple image/video and cloud gaming quality datasets, (2) development of a gaming video classification, and (3) development of a series of gaming QoE models to predict the gaming QoE depending on the level of access to the video stream information.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a convergence of network technologies, the Next Generation Network (NGN) is being deployed to carry high quality video and voice data. In fact, the convergence of network technologies has been driven by the converging needs of end-users. The perceived end-to-end quality is one of the main goals required by users that must be guaranteed by the network operators and the Internet Service Providers, through manufacturer equipment. This is referred to as the notion of Quality of Experience (QoE) and is becoming commonly used to represent user perception. The QoE is not a technical metric, but rather a concept consisting of all elements of a user's perception of the network services. The authors of this book focus on the idea of how to integrate the QoE into a control-command chain in order to construct an adaptive network system. More precisely, in the context of Content-Oriented Networks used to redesign the current Internet architecture to accommodate content-oriented applications and services, they aim to describe an end-to-end QoE model applied to a Content Distribution Network architecture. Book excerpt: This book provides an understanding of the impact of delay on cloud gaming Quality of Experience (QoE) and proposes techniques to compensate for this impact, leading to a better gaming experience when there are network delays. The author studies why some games in the cloud are more delay sensitive than others by identifying game characteristics influencing a user's delay perception and predicting the gaming QoE degraded by the delay. The author also investigates the impact of jitter and serial-position effects on gaming QoE and delay. Using the insight gained, the author presents delay compensation techniques that can mitigate the negative influence of delay on gaming QoE that use the game characteristics to adapt the games.
