Book excerpt: Excerpt from Excitation of the Traveling Wave Tube The present report is a continuation of the work done by this group. In the analysis of the helical type traveling wave tube. It treats the prob lem of determining the strength of the modes excited in the cold helix in terms of the amplitude of an arbitrary incident field. In.particular the case when the lowest mode of a coaxial line is fed in is discussed. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Synopsis The Gain and the Noise Figure of the Helical Traveling Wave Tube (Classic Reprint) by : William Sollfrey
Download or read book The Gain and the Noise Figure of the Helical Traveling Wave Tube (Classic Reprint) written by William Sollfrey and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-10 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gain and the Noise Figure of the Helical Traveling Wave Tube In Pierce's early paper, an estimate for the noise figure is given, based primarily on circuit analysis. We shall apply Friedman's improved analytical methods to this estimate, and then, under the same restrictions which apply to the gain, obtain the dependence of the noise figure on the system parameters. By this means we remove Pierce's assumption that the electron beam is treated as an infinitely thin shell, without using the equivalent thin beam treatment of Fletcher. The noise figure has been treated by Shnlman and Hews, using analytical methods similar to Friedman's but retaining the assumption of an infinitely thin beam. Download or read book Propagation Constants of Traveling Waves (Classic Reprint) written by Mortimer L. Weitz and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-28 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Propagation Constants of Traveling Waves The usual technique employed in the analysis of a structure for possible use as a traveling-wave tube amplifier reduces to the problem of solving an equation the roots of which are the propagation constants of the possible modes of the system. Then one seeks to determine whether any of the roots correspond to an exponentially increasing wave, that is, to an amplifying wave. In general this propagation equation may be transcendental and rather difficult to solve. It would therefore be advantageous to have rules which would limit the portion of the complex plane which has to be examined for possible roots. One might expect that the law of conservation of energy would impose such a limitation. Pierce and Fieldlil give a physical argument for be lieving that such a restriction does indeed exist, but their argument is not proven rigorously. In the present paper, Since we Wish to make extensive use of a restriction of this type, we shall give a mathematically rigorous proof. We show that a restriction exists for the case of Circular cylindrical symmetry involving perfect conductors and dielectrics and a uniform velocity beam; this restriction is in fact that the propagation constant of an amplifying wave must be such that the wave travels more slowly than the electron velo city. (note that nothing is asserted about the unperturbed wave Speed, that is, the speed of propagation of a traveling wave in the absence of the electron beam.)
