This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nature of educational planning has evolved significantly during the past few decades. For many years, it generally relied on grand models focusing on macro-planning. Today, the field is increasingly defined by decentralized approaches, non-government funding, and cross-national forces in the context of globalization. IIEP has played a lead role in contributing to conceptual issues, developing methodologies, and facilitating capacity development. In 2008, the Institute organized a symposium to discuss the changing context and content of educational planning, reflecting on continuities and changes in the past and looking ahead to the future. This publication is based on selected papers presented at the symposium.

Book excerpt: This collection of papers presents the critical reflections on the management and planning of education of 18 senior officials working in 12 small island nations. The papers are a result of their participation in the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Planning and Management in Small States program at the University of Malta. The book is divided into two sections. After an introductory essay and two papers on generic management and administration issues in small states, the papers in the first section deal with educational management, addressing the education process from its internal organizational or operational perspective. This section addresses such topics as resource allocation, Total Quality Management, staff recruitment, job satisfaction, and the role of principals. The second section of the book discusses educational planning, focusing on education as a tool for national development. This section discusses such topics as school-business linkages, the general role of educational planning, and specific developmental challenges facing primary, secondary, vocational, and adult education in small countries. Each chapter begins with a brief summary of the key arguments of the paper and ends with a discussion point based on the contents. (Contains a subject and author index.) (WFA).
Book Synopsis Leading and Managing Education by : Nick Foskett
Download or read book Leading and Managing Education written by Nick Foskett and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2003-01-28 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: `One of the difficulties with the production of a book that describes the international terrain of leadership and management is that political and social contexts in which policy and practice occur are multi-dimensional. Yet the authors have successfully woven a narrative that engages the reader and helps shape our understanding of diverse ways in which leading and managing occurs in a range of countries. In particular I found the examples regarding schools, resources and teachers′ professional work from developing countries a disturbing component of what could be termed the trauma of leadership in those sites. These examples serviced to enrich my own understanding and provide further evidence that there can be no framework or paradigm for understanding leadership and management in a global context′ - Educational Review `Foskett and Lumby′s book forms an important and a timely contribution to comparative international studies of educational leadership.... In challenging a range of deeply embedded suppositions about leading and managing in education the authors remind us regularly that the mightiest task of even the most accomplished transformational leader, or radical government policy, is to transform values, attitudes and professional culture. So this exposition of similarities and contrasts in practices makes a useful contribution to the literature on educational leadership in this country and beyond′ - David Wood, Journal of Inservice Education This accessible book provides a critical review of educational leadership and management from an international perspective. It addresses the expectation that practitioners and students of educational management and administration will have an international perspective on their roles, responsibilities and tasks. Increasingly, teachers as education leaders are expected to keep pace with developments in other school and college systems, and to engage with international networks to debate and exchange practical experience. The book covers a series of key themes in educational leadership, drawing on a wide range of examples, including: - Learners and learning - People and communities in education - Managing strategy and resources - Learning futures and the changing challenges for educational leaders. In this context the authors: - Describe the international landscape of leadership and management. - Provide an overview of practice in different national settings. - Identify global patterns and trends. - Challenge some of the accepted norms in leadership and management. - Build managers′ confidence as part of a global community of professional educators. - Support informed choice about policy and practice from government to school. This is a key text for students of educational leadership and management as well as for managers and administrators in schools, colleges and other educational settings.

Book Synopsis Innovations in University Management by : Bikas C. Sanyal
Download or read book Innovations in University Management written by Bikas C. Sanyal and published by Unesco. This book was released on 1995 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many factors have contributed to the increased pressure on institutions of higher education worldwide to become more cost-effective. In 1990, the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) launched an international research program on the problems of higher education management at the institutional level to create a knowledge base on the methods of better utilization of existing resources. The research began with an extensive literature review and creation of an information base, and continued with the writing of a series of papers on methodological issues and the preparation of 14 in-depth case studies on different types of innovations. The results of these activities were used to prepare a set of training materials for intensive training courses. The exchange of individual university experiences in managerial innovations in these training courses provided an additional knowledge base for IIEP. This book attempts to synthesize all these results from the research and training programs. The book's sections are: (1) "The Research Programme"; (2) "The External Environment of Higher Educational Institutions"; (3) "Improving University Management to Meet Changing Needs"; (4) "Improving Selected Areas of University Management" (including financial, academic staff, research and economic links, space, and educational delivery systems); and (5) "Prospects for Improving Management." This book was released on 2008-04-18 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effective planning, monitoring and evaluation (PME) is essential for organisational survival and for sustainable development, but remains a challenge for many development organisations, in spite of countless workshops, manuals and intervention of experts. This book presents ‘real-life’ experiences of 20 PME trainers and facilitators from Africa, Asia and Europe and offers suggestions for effective PME support processes, with a focus on civil society organisations. The authors seek to embrace a ‘total organisation’ approach to PME, one that looks at an organisation in its entirety, including its financial dimension, its environment, its collaborators and competitors, in a context informed by local and national cultures.
