Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hybrid Censoring Know-How: Models, Methods and Applications focuses on hybrid censoring, an important topic in censoring methodology with numerous applications. The readers will find information on the significance of censored data in theoretical and applied contexts, and descriptions of extensive data sets from life-testing experiments where these forms of data naturally occur. The existing literature on censoring methodology, life-testing procedures, and lifetime data analysis provides only hybrid censoring schemes, with little information about hybrid censoring methodologies, ideas, and statistical inferential methods. This book fills that gap, featuring statistical tools applicable to data from medicine, biology, public health, epidemiology, engineering, economics, and demography. Presents many numerical examples to adequately illustrate all inferential methods discussed Mentions some open problems and possible directions for future work Reviews developments on Type-II and Type-I HCS, including the most recent research and trends Explains why hybrid censored sampling is important in practice Provides details about the use of HCS under different settings and on various designs of HCS Describes the use of hybrid censoring in other reliability applications such as reliability sampling plans, step-stress testing, and quality control

Book excerpt: Analysis of Step-Stress Models: Existing Results and Some Recent Developments describes, in detail, the step-stress models and related topics that have received significant attention in the last few years. Although two books, Bagdonavicius and Nikulin (2001) and Nelson (1990), on general accelerated life testing models are available, no specific book is available on step-stress models. Due to the importance of this particular topic, Balakrishnan (2009) provided an excellent review for exponential step-stress models. The scope of this book is much more, providing the inferential issues for different probability models, both from the frequentist and Bayesian points-of-view. Explains the different distributions of the Cumulative Exposure Mode Covers many different models used for step-stress analysis Discusses Step-stress life testing under the competing or complementary risk model

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a very simple and fundamental concept· to much of probability and statistics that can be conveyed using the following problem. PROBLEM. Assume a finite set (universe) of N units where A of the units have a particular attribute. The value of N is known while the value of A is unknown. If a proper subset (sample) of size n is selected randomly and a of the units in the subset are observed to have the particular attribute, what can be said about the unknown value of A? The problem is not new and almost anyone can describe several situations where a particular problem could be presented in this setting. Some recent references with different focuses include Cochran (1977); Williams (1978); Hajek (1981); Stuart (1984); Cassel, Samdal, and Wretman (1977); and Johnson and Kotz (1977). We focus on confidence interval estimation of A. Several methods for exact confidence interval estimation of A exist (Buonaccorsi, 1987, and Peskun, 1990), and this volume presents the theory and an extensive Table for one of them. One of the important contributions in Neyman (1934) is a discussion of the meaning of confidence interval estimation and its relationship with hypothesis testing which we will call the Neyman Approach. In Chapter 3 and following Neyman's Approach for simple random sampling (without replacement), we present an elementary development of exact confidence interval estimation of A as a response to the specific problem cited above.
