This book was released on 1998 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Point Pelee National Park occupies the most southerly 9 km of a cuspate foreland which extends 15 km into Lake Erie. Approximately 70% of the park consists of a marsh that is separated from Lake Erie by two barrier bars converging at the south to form Point Pelee's distinctive triangular shape. Although Point Pelee is Canada's smallest national park, it is internationally known as a world-class bird-watching site and a resting site for Monarch butterfly migration. Recent studies were undertaken to characterize the groundwater flow regime with the objective of assessing the potential for transport and the impact of septic-system derived nutrients on the marsh"--Abstract.

This report presents results of a study conducted to determine the areal extent and distribution of various Quaternary geological materials that occur in the area. The report reviews the Paleozoic geology of the area, including bedrock lithology and economic geology, then describes the Quaternary geology, including glacial deposits and features, non-glacial deposits and features, stratigraphy, and glacial history. Finally, the report briefly assesses the area's agricultural soils and deposits of clay, sand, and gravel. Appendices include geochemical data, geotechnical data, mineralogical analyses, and sonic drillhole logs and data.

Book excerpt: A detailed and richly illustrated history. To create this unprecedented collection of photographs and essays, the authors spent years visiting museums and archives, and interviewed Lake Erie experts, from professional historians to longtime residents. The result is Lake Erie a remarkable portrait of daily life, industry and commerce on this dynamic Great Lake. The opening of the Erie Canal in 1825 connected the Hudson River to the Great Lakes and unleashed the financial potential of the American interior. The industrialists who located factories with ready access to raw materials soon became legends: Rockefeller, Henry Wells and William Fargo, Sherwin and Williams, Charles Brush and Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, B.F. Goodrich, Carnegie, Frick, Westinghouse and Mellon. The book is divided into chapters covering: The lake's prehistory Early settlement Role in the American Revolution Economic boom from 1815 to 1880 High Industrial period from 1880 to 1945 History of dramatic storms, shipwrecks Role in the Underground Railroad and Prohibition Wealth of flora and fauna
