Book Synopsis Evaluation of High-density Polyethylene Pipe by : David B. Woodham
Download or read book Evaluation of High-density Polyethylene Pipe written by David B. Woodham and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes were installed as rundowns in the Summer of 1985 on Interstate 70 west of Denver. The HDPE pipes were able to handle the corrosive and abrasive runoff and eliminated the need for heavy equipment during placement on the steep fill slopes. No problems were observed with the use of these pipes during four and one-half years of monitoring.

Book Synopsis Profiled HDPE Pipe Response to Parallel Plate Loading by : ID. Moore
Download or read book Profiled HDPE Pipe Response to Parallel Plate Loading written by ID. Moore and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The parallel plate load test is used to measure 'pipe stiffness' for HDPE pipe. Pipe stiffness is employed as a measure of pipe resistance to bending deformation as well as a quality control index for the manufacturing process. Unfortunately, the parallel plate test induces a complex state of stress and strain in the pipe, and interpretation of the test results is not straightforward. Simple analysis for a thin circular ring or shell is generally used for these products, but in reality materials like high density polyethylene are viscoelastic (modulus is time and load path dependent) and the depth of the pipe profile may be a significant proportion of the diameter. This paper introduces a three dimensional viscoelastic finite element analysis for HDPE pipe, testing the computational method through comparisons with laboratory data. The analysis is used to examine the nature of pipe response during the parallel plate test. The local distributions of stress and strain through the profile are considered, as well as the effect of loading rate on the pipe response. Conclusions are drawn regarding the ability of conventional thin ring theory to predict circumferential stress and strain, and the implications for pipe design are briefly discussed.

Book Synopsis Losses in Water Distribution Networks by : M. Farley
Download or read book Losses in Water Distribution Networks written by M. Farley and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2003-03-31 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a best practice manual for addressing water losses in water distribution networks worldwide. Systems and methodologies are presented for improving water loss and leakage management in a range of networks, from systems with a well-developed infrastructure to those in developing countries where the network may need to be upgraded. The key feature of the manual is a diagnostic approach to develop a water loss strategy - using the appropriate tools to find the right solutions - which can be applied to any network. The methods of assessing the scale and volume of water loss are outlined, together with the procedures for setting up leakage monitoring and detection systems. As well as real losses (leakage) procedures for addressing apparent losses, by introducing regulatory and customer metering policies are explained. Suggestions are made for demand management and water conservation programmes, to complement the water loss strategy. Recommendations are made for training workshops and operation and maintenance programmes to ensure skills transfer and sustainability. The manual is illustrated throughout with case studies. Losses in Water Distribution Networks will appeal to a wide range of practitioners responsible for designing and managing a water loss strategy. These include consultants, operations managers, engineers, technicians and operational staff. It will also be a valuable reference for senior managers and decision makers, who may require an overview of the principles and procedures for controlling losses. The book will also be suitable as a source document for courses in Water Engineering, Resource Management and Environmental Management.
