Increasing rates of sexual activity combined with declining contraceptive use rates create a dangerous situation for youth in South Carolina. When this study first began, the SC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (SC Campaign) reviewed the existing evidence-based pregnancy prevention programs for middle school. One program, called It's Your Game...Keep it Real (IYG), addresses all eight of South Carolina's health education standards and meets CHEA standards regarding mandated comprehensive reproductive health education in public schools. Consequently, the SC Campaign selected IYG for replication in selected middle schools throughout the state.

Book Synopsis The Science, and Art, of Program Dissemination: Strategies, Successes, and Challenges by : Kathleen P. McCoy
Download or read book The Science, and Art, of Program Dissemination: Strategies, Successes, and Challenges written by Kathleen P. McCoy and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-10-05 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gain a greater awareness of the processes involved in the dissemination of evidence-based interventions, as well as existing supports that help disseminate and sustain them. Many interventions that aim to help children and adolescents are found to be efficacious every year, but program developers are often not equipped with the skills, knowledge, or tools to understand how to scale up a program or sustain it after the initial funding. Consumers (e.g., service providers, who are consumers of interventions), on the other hand, often do not understand all that goes into implementing and scaling up an intervention. This special issue: introduces readers to the problem, discusses some of the challenges with disseminating programs, and presents various supports that exist which can help scale up and sustain interventions. The authors’ goal is to promote the field of dissemination science by encouraging the sharing of successes and challenges. This is the 149th volume in this Jossey-Bass series New Directions for Child and Adolescent Development. Its mission is to provide scientific and scholarly presentations on cutting edge issues and concepts in this subject area. Each volume focuses on a specific new direction or research topic and is edited by experts from that field.

Book Synopsis The Tender Grave by : Sheri Reynolds
Download or read book The Tender Grave written by Sheri Reynolds and published by Bywater Books. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Independent Publisher Books Awards (IPPY) Gold Medalist in Mid-Atlantic-Best Regional Fiction From the author of the New York Times #1 bestseller, The Rapture of Canaan, and steeped in the rich tradition of Southern writers like Carson McCullers and Sue Monk Kidd, The Tender Grave is the gripping story of two estranged sisters who find their unlikely way toward forgiveness—and each other—through a disturbing set of circumstances. Dori, at age 17, participates in a hate crime against a gay boy from her school and runs away to escape prosecution—and her own harrowing childhood. In her pocket, she carries the address of an older, half-sister she’s never met. She has no idea that her sister Teresa is married to another woman. When Dori and Teresa finally meet, they’re forced to confront that, while they don’t like or really even understand one another, they are inextricably bound together in ways that transcend their differences. Together, the sisters discover that shifting currents of family and connection can sometimes run deeper than the prevailing tides of abandonment and estrangement. In The Tender Grave, Sheri Reynolds weaves complex themes of parenting, forgiveness, guilt, and accountability into a lyrical and lushly-woven tapestry that chronicles our enduring search for heart, home, and healing.
Book Synopsis To Chase a Dream by : Paul "Whitey" Kapsalis
Download or read book To Chase a Dream written by Paul "Whitey" Kapsalis and published by Meyer & Meyer Verlag. This book was released on 2014-02-28 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winners of 8 national championships, Indiana University is to men’s college soccer what University of North Carolina is to college basketball or University of Notre Dame is to college football. To Chase a Dream is the true story of one kid’s near-impossible desire to play soccer at that national powerhouse, a kid who was told time after time that he simply wasn’t good enough and never would be. What all the doubters failed to consider was that inside the body of an under-sized, humble Paul Kapsalis was the heart of a lion. This is his journey, a story that affirms that perseverance, optimism, hard work, a willingness to learn, and kindness can lead to remarkable achievements and transform a kid who just wanted to play soccer into a leader of men. It took him 5 years, fighting through rejection and a career-threatening injury, but Paul got where he never expected to go. Here’s a chance to see how he did it.
