Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise international chemical assessment document (CICAD) on chlorobenzenes other than hexachlorobenzene (environmental aspects) is an update of Environmental Health Criteria (EHC) 128. Information on the fate and levels of chlorobenzenes was also obtained from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry reports on chlorobenzene and 1,4-dichlorobenzene. This CICAD concentrates on environmental aspects because there have been no significant changes to the human health assessment since publication of the EHC.--Publisher's description.

Download or read book Status Assessment of Toxic Chemicals written by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and published by BiblioGov. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was introduced on December 2, 1970 by President Richard Nixon. The agency is charged with protecting human health and the environment, by writing and enforcing regulations based on laws passed by Congress. The EPA's struggle to protect health and the environment is seen through each of its official publications. These publications outline new policies, detail problems with enforcing laws, document the need for new legislation, and describe new tactics to use to solve these issues. This collection of publications ranges from historic documents to reports released in the new millennium, and features works like: Bicycle for a Better Environment, Health Effects of Increasing Sulfur Oxides Emissions Draft, and Women and Environmental Health.
Book Synopsis Scientific Justification by : Canada. Chemicals Evaluation Division
Download or read book Scientific Justification written by Canada. Chemicals Evaluation Division and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The federal Toxic Substances Management Policy provides a framework based on two key objectives. The first or Track 1 objective is the virtual elimination from the environment of toxic substances that are persistent, bioaccumulative, and result primarily from human activity. This report presents an assessment of hexachlorobenzene (HCB) against the criteria for selection of Track 1 substances under the Policy. It includes background information on HCB and documentation of the evidence considered in the assessment under the four criteria: whether the substance is predominantly anthropogenic; environmental persistence; bioaccumulation or bioconcentration factors; and toxicity under the priority substances provisions of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.
Book Synopsis Perspectives in Life Cycle Impact Assessment by : Patrick Hofstetter
Download or read book Perspectives in Life Cycle Impact Assessment written by Patrick Hofstetter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perspectives in Life Cycle Impact Assessment: A Structured Approach to Combine Models of the Technosphere, Ecosphere and Valuesphere describes the relationship between subjective and objective elements in Life Cycle Impact Assessment. It suggests a new framework which will allow people to master two of the major problems associated with LCA, the difficulty of separating subjective from objective elements and the tendency for impact assessment to record `phantoms' rather than actual damages. Perspectives in Life Cycle Impact Assessment: A Structured Approach to Combine Models of the Technosphere, Ecosphere and Valuesphere presents a proposal for a second generation framework and method for Life Cycle Impact Assessment. Many of the suggested elements are either based on other tools for environmental analysis, e.g. risk assessment, or fit in well with tools and concepts such as industrial ecology, technology assessment, or environmental impact assessment. The research presented in this book goes beyond the scope of presently used methods for Life Cycle Assessment and may stimulate new developments in a variety of areas. The book will appeal to persons from a wide range of scientific disciplines who are interested in learning more about Life Cycle Assessment. It will be especially valuable to members of SETAC and to students and researchers in the fields of environmental impact assessment, risk assessment and industrial ecology.

Book Synopsis Hexachlorobenzene by : Canada. Environment Canada
Download or read book Hexachlorobenzene written by Canada. Environment Canada and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CEPA requires the ministers of the Environment and of National Health and Welfare to prepare and publish a Priority Substances List that identifies substances, including chemicals, groups of chemicals, effluents and wastes that may be harmful to the environment or constitute a danger to human health. The assessment of whether hexachlorobenzene is toxic, as interpreted in CEPA, was based on the determination of whether it enters or likely enters the Canadian environment in a concentration or quantities or under conditions that could lead to exposure of humans or other biota at levels that could cause adverse effects. In this report, an overview of the findings is presented. An extended summary of technical information critical to the assessment is presented in Section 2. The assessment of whether HCB is toxic under CEPA is presented in Section 3.

Book Synopsis Waste Incineration and Public Health by : National Research Council
Download or read book Waste Incineration and Public Health written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-10-21 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Incineration has been used widely for waste disposal, including household, hazardous, and medical wasteâ€"but there is increasing public concern over the benefits of combusting the waste versus the health risk from pollutants emitted during combustion. Waste Incineration and Public Health informs the emerging debate with the most up-to-date information available on incineration, pollution, and human healthâ€"along with expert conclusions and recommendations for further research and improvement of such areas as risk communication. The committee provides details on: Processes involved in incineration and how contaminants are released. Environmental dynamics of contaminants and routes of human exposure. Tools and approaches for assessing possible human health effects. Scientific concerns pertinent to future regulatory actions. The book also examines some of the social, psychological, and economic factors that affect the communities where incineration takes place and addresses the problem of uncertainty and variation in predicting the health effects of incineration processes.
