Book excerpt: Excerpt from Evaluating the Growth Potential of Aspen Lands in Northern Minnesota The surface geology of northern Minnesota has an important bearing 0 aspen site quality because topography and soil parent materials are determined by landforms. Almost all of the landforms in this region are the result of either glacial deposition or glacial erosion. At least four surface drifts are present in the aspen-producing areas. Each is the result of deposition by ice lobes that traversed dif ferent source regions with varying bedrock types. Download or read book Three Pine Release Experiments in Northern Minnesota written by Robert Erwin Buckman and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three pine release experiments were begun in northern Minnesota in the 1930's. Two experiments compared the response of pines to full, moderate, and no release from competing hardwoods; the third compared only moderate and no release. Eighteen to twenty-five years later the pines responded most favorably on the full release treatments, intermediate on moderate release, and least favorably with no release. Financial aspects are briefly discussed and indicate that release, as done in these experiments is one of the better investments to be made in forestry.
