Book Synopsis Climb the Beanstalk by : Shane Bailey
Download or read book Climb the Beanstalk written by Shane Bailey and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-08-22 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climb the Beanstalk will take you on a journey that is profound, simple, funny, serious, deep and thought-provoking. These poetic writings span the gamut of subjects-from Christian to macabre to everyday life and all places in- between. The wide variety of topics is a reflection of the life and struggles of a gifted writer dealing with OCD and bi-polar disorder. Although this is not a biography, after reading the book you will feel like you know Shane in all depth, humor, and brilliance. After taking the roller coaster ride through his poetry you will better understand the bi-polar mind - for much of this book is a journey that Shane Bailey lived and these are places that he has been. As much as possible, the writing has been kept in its original condition, as Shane like to stretch the boundaries of "poetic license". His excessive use of capitalization, ellipses, and an occasional made -up word, add interest and intrigue to what is often an unconventional writing style.

Book excerpt: Benedryl for the heart Sweet words of the Tao Blackberry to make all succinct Eloquent the text, twitter quiet rest Poetry spells relief in the now How many of us can wake up gracefully with a breath of new joyous time? Most start their wake with televised bait that startles their heart and mind. As human beings poetry is needed for our heart heath. A starting verse in the morning, a stanza at night, a pep talk at noon is the poem. With all our meals, a vitamin of steel, it supports us from the gloom of the real. Poetry is as essential as the air. We cannot live without that beauty which balances us. It is an everyday practice bringing us back to soul and substance, summarizes happiness, solidifying peace, and stabilizes us with the wisdom to live well.

Book Synopsis Metrical Claims and Poetic Experience by : Hannah V. Eldridge
Download or read book Metrical Claims and Poetic Experience written by Hannah V. Eldridge and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-10-04 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contributes to the fields of lyric poetry and poetics (especially poetic form), aesthetics, and German literature by intervening in debates on the social functions, cognitive and emotional effects, and the value of poetry. It builds on, and moves beyond, previous theories of rhythm to tie meter more particularly to the specificities of poetic language in blending of embodied responses, cultural situations, and linguistic particularities. The book examines the German-language tradition across three centuries, arguing that the interdisciplinarity and richness of metrical theory and practice emerge in the heterogeneity of poetry and its defenders in their specific historical moments. Focusing on Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Durs Grünbein, the book contextualizes each in the metrical and aesthetic debates of his epoch, showing how questions of meter are linked with overarching poetic goals such as the relationship between form and meaning, the adaptation of the Classical past for German literature, and the ways poetry's sounds work in the body. It argues that Klopstock's, Nietzsche's, and Grünbein's metrical theory and practice offer valuable insights for thinking about the ways poetry works and why it matters.

Download or read book Three Plays written by Derek Walcott and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2014-09-09 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The three plays in this collection form a triptych--the central play, a farce, is flanked by two dramas. Together they span the last four decades of Trinidad's social and political history, beginning, in The Last Carnival, with the colonial life-style of a French Creole family faced with the emergence of the Black Power movement, and ending, in A Branch of the Blue Nile, with the conflict among members of a small theatre company in contemporary Port-of-Spain. Beef, No Chicken, the middle play, deals with the corruption of a small town in a hurry to catch up with the industrialization that a new highway will bring. The Last Carnival is an entirely new version of Walcott's earlier, unpublished play, In a Fine Castle. It had its American premiere with the Group Theatre Company in Seattle in 1983. Beef, No Chicken premiered at the Yale Repertory Theatre's Winterfest series in 1982. A Branch of the Blue Nile was given its Caribbean premiere by State One in Barbados in 1983.
