Book Synopsis Quasi-hydrodynamic Semiconductor Equations by : Ansgar Jüngel
Download or read book Quasi-hydrodynamic Semiconductor Equations written by Ansgar Jüngel and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2011-04-27 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a hierarchy of macroscopic models for semiconductor devices, studying three classes of models in detail: isentropic drift-diffusion equations, energy-transport models, and quantum hydrodynamic equations. The derivation of each, including physical discussions, is shown. Numerical simulations for modern semiconductor devices are performed, showing the particular features of each. The author develops modern analytical techniques, such as positive solution methods, local energy methods for free-boundary problems and entropy methods.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years the mathematical modeling of charge transport in semi conductors has become a thriving area in applied mathematics. The drift diffusion equations, which constitute the most popular model for the simula tion of the electrical behavior of semiconductor devices, are by now mathe matically quite well understood. As a consequence numerical methods have been developed, which allow for reasonably efficient computer simulations in many cases of practical relevance. Nowadays, research on the drift diffu sion model is of a highly specialized nature. It concentrates on the explora tion of possibly more efficient discretization methods (e.g. mixed finite elements, streamline diffusion), on the improvement of the performance of nonlinear iteration and linear equation solvers, and on three dimensional applications. The ongoing miniaturization of semiconductor devices has prompted a shift of the focus of the modeling research lately, since the drift diffusion model does not account well for charge transport in ultra integrated devices. Extensions of the drift diffusion model (so called hydrodynamic models) are under investigation for the modeling of hot electron effects in submicron MOS-transistors, and supercomputer technology has made it possible to employ kinetic models (semiclassical Boltzmann-Poisson and Wigner Poisson equations) for the simulation of certain highly integrated devices.

Book Synopsis Lecture Notes On The Mathematical Theory Of Generalized Boltzmann Models by : Nicola Bellomo
Download or read book Lecture Notes On The Mathematical Theory Of Generalized Boltzmann Models written by Nicola Bellomo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-01-11 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the idea that Boltzmann-like modelling methods can be developed to design, with special attention to applied sciences, kinetic-type models which are called generalized kinetic models. In particular, these models appear in evolution equations for the statistical distribution over the physical state of each individual of a large population. The evolution is determined both by interactions among individuals and by external actions.Considering that generalized kinetic models can play an important role in dealing with several interesting systems in applied sciences, the book provides a unified presentation of this topic with direct reference to modelling, mathematical statement of problems, qualitative and computational analysis, and applications. Models reported and proposed in the book refer to several fields of natural, applied and technological sciences. In particular, the following classes of models are discussed: population dynamics and socio-economic behaviours, models of aggregation and fragmentation phenomena, models of biology and immunology, traffic flow models, models of mixtures and particles undergoing classic and dissipative interactions.

Book excerpt: CETTE THESE A POUR OBJET L'ETUDE MATHEMATIQUE DE CERTAINS PROBLEMES LIES A LA THEORIE CINETIQUE DES GAZ ET DES PLASMAS. NOUS NOUS INTERESSONS TOUT D'ABORD AUX PROBLEMES DE VITESSE DE CONVERGENCE VERS L'EQUILIBRE POUR UN GAZ MODELISE PAR L'EQUATION DE BOLTZMANN OU DE KAC, OU POUR UN PLASMA DECRIT GRACE A L'EQUATION DE FOKKER-PLANCK-LANDAU. NOUS DONNONS UNE MINORATION DE LA DISSIPATION D'ENTROPIE POUR CHACUNE DE CES EQUATIONS PAR LA DISTANCE A L'EQUILIBRE, DANS LE CAS DE DENSITES BORNEES INFERIEUREMENT. ENSUITE, NOUS MONTRONS MATHEMATIQUEMENT QUE LA CONVERGENCE VERS L'EQUILIBRE A EFFECTIVEMENT LIEU POUR LES SOLUTIONS RENORMALISEES DE L'EQUATION DE BOLTZMANN DANS UN DOMAINE BORNE AVEC DES CONDITIONS DE REFLEXION SPECULAIRE SUR LES BORDS, ET NOUS DONNONS LA FORME DE LA LIMITE. NOUS MONTRONS EGALEMENT CE RESULTAT DANS LE CAS D'UN PLASMA VERIFIANT L'EQUATION DE VLASOSV-POISSON-BOLTZMANN, CE QUI AMENE A CONSIDERER UNE EQUATION ELLIPTIQUE NON LINEAIRE ET NON LOCALE, POUR LAQUELLE NOUS PROUVONS L'EXISTENCE ET L'UNICITE D'UNE SOLUTION REGULIERE. NOUS NOUS CONSACRONS ENSUITE A L'ETUDE DE LA VALIDITE DE LA METHODE NUMERIQUE DE SPLITTING POUR LES EQUATIONS DU TRANSFERT RADIATIF ET DE VLASOV-MAXWELL. ENFIN, NOUS DONNONS UNE METHODE FORMELLE PERMETTANT DE PASSER DU NOYAU DE BOLTZMANN A CELUI DE FOKKER-PLANCK-LANDAU, ET NOUS PROUVONS SA VALIDITE DANS LE CADRE DES EQUATIONS LINEARISEES. NOUS CONCLUSONS EN ETENDANT LE RESULTAT PRECEDENT A L'EQUATION DE KAC
