DAOUD and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LE BASSIN HYDROLOGIQUE DU CHOTT-CHERGUI EST UN BASSIN ENDOREIQUE QUI FAIT PARTIE D'UNE VASTE UNITE GEOGRAPHIQUE, LES HAUTES PLAINES STEPPIQUES. IL S'AGIT D'UN DOMAINE SEMI-DESERTIQUE, COMPRIS ENTRE LE TELL, AU NORD, ET L'ATLAS SAHARIEN, AU SUD. CETTE ETUDE REPOSE SUR L'ANALYSE CHIMIQUE (MAJEURS ET TRACES) ET ISOTOPIQUE (#2H, #1#8O, #3H, #1#3C, #1#4C) DES EAUX SOUTERRAINES PRELEVEES DANS TROIS NIVEAUX AQUIFERES (LE JURASSIQUE MOYEN, LE SENONIEN ET LE TERTIAIRE) AINSI QUE SUR LA MODELISATION ISOTOPIQUE DES TRANSFERTS D'EAUX DANS LA ZONE NON SATUREE. LES EAUX SOUTERRAINES DU CHERGUI SONT, DANS L'ENSEMBLE, CARACTERISEES PAR UN FACIES CHIMIQUE DU TYPE CHLORURE SULFATE, CALCIQUE ET MAGNESIEN. DEUX DOMAINES DIFFERENTS DE SALINITE PEUVENT ETRE DISTINGUES. L'UN CORRESPOND A LA PARTIE AMONT (BORDURES DU BASSIN ET SA PARTIE OUEST), OU LA MINERALISATION EST FAIBLE, L'AUTRE A LA PARTIE AVAL (PARTIE ORIENTALE DU BASSIN), OU LA MINERALISATION EST PLUS FORTE. LA DISTRIBUTION SPATIALE DE LA SALINITE OBEIT DONC A UN GRADIENT CENTRIPETE VERS LA PARTIE ORIENTALE DU CHOTT STRICTO-SENSU, CONFORMEMENT A CE QUE L'ON POUVAIT ATTENDRE D'UN ECOULEMENT ENDOREIQUE. LE MODE D'ACQUISITION DE LA MINERALISATION DES EAUX SOUTERRAINES EST REGI PAR LA DISSOLUTION DU GYPSE ET DE LA HALITE SUR L'ENSEMBLE DU BASSIN A LAQUELLE SE SURIMPOSE DANS LA PARTIE AMONT UNE MISE EN SOLUTION DE MINERAUX CARBONATES. L'ETUDE ISOTOPIQUE MONTRE QUE LES EAUX SOUTERRAINES DU CHERGUI PEUVENT ETRE SUBDIVISEES EN DEUX ENSEMBLES: UN ENSEMBLE D'EAUX RELATIVEMENT RECENTES (0-3000 ANS), AUX TENEURS ISOTOPIQUES ASSEZ DISPERSEES, PRELEVEES DANS LES HORIZONS SUPERFICIELS OU EN BORDURES, UNE MASSE HOMOGENE D'EAUX ANCIENNES (> 10 KA), AUX TENEURS ISOTOPIQUES PLUS BASSES, ISSUES DES FORMATIONS AQUIFERES DU JURASSIQUE MOYEN, SENONIEN ET TERTIAIRE PROFOND, PRELEVEES DANS L'AXE DU BASSIN. UNE INTER-COMMUNICATION EST MISE EN EVIDENCE ENTRE LES NIVEAUX AQUIFERES DU JURASSIQUE MOYEN, SENONIEN ET TERTIAIRE PROFOND. LA CONFRONTATION DES DONNEES ISOTOPIQUES AVEC LES DONNEES CHIMIQUES, MONTRE QUE LA CONCENTRATION EN SELS EST ACQUISE PRINCIPALEMENT PAR VOIE DE DISSOLUTION DES MINERAUX. CECI EST CLAIR POUR LES EAUX ANCIENNES PROFONDES, ALORS QUE POUR LES EAUX SOUTERRAINES SUPERFICIELLES, COLLECTEES DANS LE TERTIAIRE, LES PHENOMENES DE DISSOLUTION ET D'EVAPORATION SONT ETROITEMENT LIES. L'EXISTENCE D'UN FLUX ASCENDANT DES EAUX PROFONDES AU TRAVERS DES FORMATIONS TERTIAIRES PEUT ETRE DEDUIT DE LA RELATION #2H VS #1#8O. LES EAUX ASCENDANTES SONT ENSUITE SOUMISES A L'EVAPORATION DANS LES NIVEAUX SUPERFICIELS DU TERTIAIRE. UNE ETUDE DU FLUX EVAPORATOIRE FONDEE SUR LA MODELISATION DE PROFILS ISOTOPIQUES OBTENUS DANS LA ZONE NON SATUREE DONNE UNE ESTIMATION DU TAUX D'EVAPORATION COMPRISE ENTRE 12 ET 50 MM.AN#-#1, SELON LA PROFONDEUR DE LA NAPPE SUPERFICIELLE

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coastal aquifers serve as major sources for freshwater supply in many countries around the world, especially in arid and semi-arid zones. Many coastal areas are also heavily urbanized, a fact that makes the need for freshwater even more acute. Coastal aquifers are highly sensitive to disturbances. Inappropriate management of a coastal aquifer may lead to its destruction as a source for freshwater much earlier than other aquifers which are not connected to the sea. The reason is the threat of seawater intrusion. In many coastal aquifers, intrusion of seawater has become one of the major constraints imposed on groundwater utilization. As sea water intrusion progresses, existing pumping wells, especially those close to the coast, become saline and have to be abandoned. Also, the area above the intruding seawater wedge is lost as a source of natural replenishment to the aquifer. Despite the importance of this subject, so far there does not exist a book that integrates our present knowledge of seawater intrusion, its occurrences, physical mechanism, chemistry, exploration by geo physical and geochemical techniques, conceptual and mathematical modeling, analytical and numerical solution methods, engineering measures of combating seawater intrusion, management strategies, and experience learned from case studies. By presenting this fairly comprehensive volume on the state-of-the-art of knowledge and ex perience on saltwater intrusion, we hoped to transfer this body of knowledge to the geologists, hydrologists, hydraulic engineers, water resources planners, managers, and governmental policy makers, who are engaged in the sustainable development of coastal fresh ground water resources.

Book excerpt: Providing a balance between principles and practice, this state-of-the-art overview of geophysical methods takes readers from the basic physical phenomena, through the acquisition and processing of data, to the creation of geological models of the subsurface and data interpretation to find hidden mineral deposits. Detailed descriptions of all the commonly used geophysical methods are given, including gravity, magnetic, radiometric, electrical, electromagnetic and seismic methods. Each technique is described in a consistent way and without complex mathematics. Emphasising extraction of maximum geological information from geophysical data, the book also explains petrophysics, data modelling and common interpretation pitfalls. Packed with full-colour figures, also available online, the text is supported by selected examples from around the world, including all the major deposit types. Designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in minerals geoscience, this is also a valuable reference for professionals in the mining industry wishing to make greater use of geophysical methods. In 2015, Dentith and Mudge won the ASEG Lindsay Ingall Memorial Award for their combined effort in promoting geophysics to the wider community with the publication of this title.
