La méthode de Tafel a permis de mesurer la mesure des propriétés anticorrosives dans une solution NaCl 0.5mol.L-1pH 6.4. Un traitement de 30 minutes élève le potentiel de corrosion d’environ 160mV et abaisse le courant de la branche anodique d’un facteur de 102. La rotation de la cible pendant le traitement améliore l’interaction plasma-surface. Un réacteur fermé et une préparation de surface adéquate améliore l’interaction plasma-surface. La caractérisation de la couche passive par potentiométrie, la diffraction des rayons X et la spectroscopie Mössbauer a révélé la présence d’un revêtement très mince, et suggéré la présence des oxydes FeO, FeOOH, Fe2O3 et Fe3O4. Un mécanisme d’oxydation de l’acier au carbone sous plasma a été proposé en conséquence. La mesure de l’angle de contact à l’eau a mis en évidence un phénomène d’activation de surface.
