Book Synopsis The Microscopic Theory of Superfluid He II and with Its QCE Superfluidity Mechanism Applied to Superconductors by : J. X. Zheng-Johansson
Download or read book The Microscopic Theory of Superfluid He II and with Its QCE Superfluidity Mechanism Applied to Superconductors written by J. X. Zheng-Johansson and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2004 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors introduce the full content of the Microscopic Theory of Superfluid He II, developed since 1998; also given are brief accounts of the application of one concept from the theory, the QCE1 Superfluidity Mechanism, to superconductors. One peer review report writes: "The authors include more of the underlying physics than some earlier theories, and the comparisons they make with experimental data are satisfactory". The Microscopic Theory of Superfluid He II has several important features, which distinguishes this theory from the previous theories of He II. The immense volume of information the authors have today, especially the pieces of information revealing the microscopic dynamics of the system, was not available to the developers of the previous theories in the 1930s-1940s. This book also demonstrates how the general principles of quantum mechanics and condensed matter physics can be consistently applied to a given system with confidence, once a realistic microscopic model is derived for it. It demonstrates in turn the validity of the general physics principles in such an extreme system as the quantum fluid He II.

Book Synopsis The Physics of Ultracold Neutrons by : Vladimir Kazimirovich Ignatovich
Download or read book The Physics of Ultracold Neutrons written by Vladimir Kazimirovich Ignatovich and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Slow-moving, low-energy ultracold neutrons provide an important tool for investigations in physics. They can be kept in hermetically sealed vessels for up to 15 minutes before they decay, allowing researchers sufficient time to observe the action of very weak fields and yielding valuable insights into neutron properties. In addition to describing how these particles are produced, detected, and analyzed, this book provides coverage of improvements in the techniques of ultracold neutron science--with information on how physicists may increase storage times--and explores ways they can be used for fundamental and applied research. Areas of study reported on include the determination of an upper limit to the electric dipole moment of neutrons, improved measurements of decay time, and new approaches to diffraction and diffusion theory. Although the text avoids mathematical detail, this is covered in appendices at chapter ends. The material is intended for specialists in neutron physics.

Book Synopsis Des neutrons pour la science by : Bernard Jacrot
Download or read book Des neutrons pour la science written by Bernard Jacrot and published by L'Editeur : EDP Sciences. This book was released on 2006 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Ultracold Neutrons by : Albert Steyerl
Download or read book Ultracold Neutrons written by Albert Steyerl and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-05-26 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultracold Neutrons is a guide to a fascinating topic. It describes how a simple new idea in experimental neutron physics has changed the landscape of what is often called 'fundamental physics.' Ultracold neutrons (UCNs) are neutrons moving at the low speed of a bicycle rider. They were produced for the first time 50 years ago (in 1968) and are distinguished from ordinary neutrons with much higher energies by their ability to be confined in 'neutron bottles' for durations up to several hundred seconds. This is possible since they are reflected back and forth from the container walls many thousands of times with very little loss. As a result of these long observation times, their properties and interactions with the environment can be studied with superb precision.Directed towards a general readership, this book is an excellent introduction to a field of research that is not highly specialized but touches on many aspects of our physical world, classical as well as quantum mechanical.

Book Synopsis Quantized Vortex Dynamics and Superfluid Turbulence by : C.F. Barenghi
Download or read book Quantized Vortex Dynamics and Superfluid Turbulence written by C.F. Barenghi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2001-08-28 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book springs from the programme Quantized Vortex Dynamics and Sup- ?uid Turbulence held at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences (University of Cambridge) in August 2000. What motivated the programme was the recognition that two recent developments have moved the study of qu- tized vorticity, traditionally carried out within the low-temperature physics and condensed-matter physics communities, into a new era. The ?rst development is the increasing contact with classical ?uid dynamics and its ideas and methods. For example, some current experiments with - lium II now deal with very classical issues, such as the measurement of velocity spectra and turbulence decay rates. The evidence from these experiments and many others is that super?uid turbulence and classical turbulence share many features. The challenge is now to explain these similarities and explore the time scales and length scales over which they hold true. The observed classical aspects have also attracted attention to the role played by the ?ow of the normal ?uid, which was somewhat neglected in the past because of the lack of direct ?ow visualization. Increased computing power is also making it possible to study the coupled motion of super?uid vortices and normal ?uids. Another contact with classical physics arises through the interest in the study of super?uid vortex - connections. Reconnections have been studied for some time in the contexts of classical ?uid dynamics and magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD), and it is useful to learn from the experience acquired in other ?elds.
Book Synopsis The Superfluid Phases of Helium 3 by : Dieter Vollhardt
Download or read book The Superfluid Phases of Helium 3 written by Dieter Vollhardt and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 619 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phases - originally discovered in 1971 - are fascinating in that they simultaneously exhibit properties characteristic of isotropic superfluids, liquid crystals, and magnetic structures, and have made superfluid 3He a testing ground for many new ideas in physics.; The authors develop the theory of all aspects of the superfluid phases of 3He, from a brief history to the most up-to-date research on the subject, including more than 1000 references to original articles and books.
