Book excerpt: This proceedings volume comprises the invited plenary lectures, contributed and poster papers presented at a symposium organised to mark the successful inauguration of the world's first commercial plant for production of gasoline from natural gas, based on the Mobil methanol-to-gasoline process. The objectives of the Symposium were to present both fundamental research and engineering aspects of the development and commercialization of gas-to-gasoline processes. These include steam reforming, methanol synthesis and methanol-to-gasoline. Possible alternative processes e.g. MOGD, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis of hydrocarbons, and the direct conversion of methane to higher hydrocarbons were also considered. The papers in this volume provide a valuable and extremely wide-ranging overview of current research into the various options for natural gas conversion, giving a detailed description of the gas-to-gasoline process and plant. Together, they represent a unique combination of fundamental surface chemistry catalyst characterization, reaction chemistry and engineering scale-up and commercialization.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical Equilibrium models were constructed for Oxidative Coupling of Methane reaction (OCM) with three catalysts, i.e. Mn/Na2WO4/SiO2, La2O3/CaO and PbO/Al2O3. The models were verified under operating temperatures of 650-900oC and methane to oxygen feed ratio 3-10. The compositions of methane, ethane, ethylene, hydrogen, water and carbon oxides in the effluent of each model were compared with the corresponding experiments. The suitable equilibrium model for both Mn/Na2WO4/SiO2 and PbO/Al2O3 was the trio-equilibrium reaction model, consisting of OCM and oxidative dehydrogenation model, combustion model, and hydrocracking model. While, the duo-equilibrium reaction model, containing OCM and oxidative dehydrogenation model, and combustion model, was appropriate for La2O3/CaO catalyst. The accuracy of all equilibrium models could be improved by specifying the desired ethane yield. In addition, based on the reactor performance, i.e. conversion, and yields, the limitation of the manipulated equilibrium models was evaluated within the operating temperatures and the methane to oxygen ratio above. Finally, the equilibrium models, especially the duo-equilibrium model, could be employed to predict the reactor performance containing other OCM catalysts.
Book Synopsis Natural Gas Conversion by : A. Holmen
Download or read book Natural Gas Conversion written by A. Holmen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1991-05-27 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings reflect the extensive fundamental and applied research efforts that are currently being made on the conversion of gas, in particular on the direct conversion of methane. The Symposium in Oslo focused on the following topics: Direct conversion of methane, Fischer-Tropsch chemistry, methanol conversion and natural gas conversion processes. The main aim was to present the state-of-the-art and progress currently being made within each of these areas. The book contains the papers presented and includes plenary lectures, short communications and posters. The papers will be of interest to scientists and engineers working in the field of gas conversion, transportation fuels, primary petrochemicals and catalysis.

Book Synopsis A Simulated Countercurrent Moving-bed Chromatographic Reactor for the Oxidative Coupling of Methane by :
Download or read book A Simulated Countercurrent Moving-bed Chromatographic Reactor for the Oxidative Coupling of Methane written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The oxidative coupling reaction of methane (OCM) represents a potential commercial ethylene production route. However, the highest reported yields do not exceed 20%. The methane coupling reaction is accompanied by the undesired conversion of methane to carbon oxides. The relative amount of oxygen and methane along with other parameters, including temperature, determine the favored reaction pathway. High hydrocarbon to oxygen feed ratios give high ethane/ethylene selectivities but at the expense of the hydrocarbon conversion. When the methane to oxygen feed ratio is low, combustion is favored. The simulated countercurrent moving-bed chromatographic reactor (SCMCR) is applied to the OCM. A modified experimental configuration is designed and evaluated. A four-section apparatus, each containing a reaction and two separation columns, is used to quickly separate the reactants and products using the principles of simulated countercurrent flow. Simultaneous reaction and separation of the reactive products column is desired, but unattainable because of an incompatibility between OCM reaction and separation temperatures. Microreactor yields with a samarium oxide catalyst gives yields between 2% and 10%. Yields as high as 50% are observed with the same catalyst and run conditions in the SCMCR. These yields are significantly higher than previously reported values. The effects of temperature, feed switching time, and methane to oxygen feed ratio have been investigated. The reactor, while not fully optimized, does give promise as an alternative production method for ethylene.
Book Synopsis Environmental Catalysis by : F J J G Janssen
Download or read book Environmental Catalysis written by F J J G Janssen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-04-14 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together highlights of a theme which is growing in interest: the creation of a sustainable society using catalysis as the main tool. Catalysts play key roles in the production of clean fuels, the conversion of waste and green raw materials into energy, clean combustion engines including control of NOx and soot production and reduction of greenhouse gases, production of clean water and of polymers, as well as reduction from polymers to monomers. Catalysts are also of prime importance in the developing H2 and syngas production technology, aimed at producing clean fuels for the coming decades. And catalysts can be recycled.
