Book Synopsis Purr Prints of the Heart by : Deborah Anne Barnes
Download or read book Purr Prints of the Heart written by Deborah Anne Barnes and published by Zzp Publishing. This book was released on 2015-04 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deborah and her beloved cat Ragdoll cat, Mr. Jazz, spent a lifetime together. The bond they shared was special - he was her companion through the best and worst of it all. So when the inevitable happened - the realization he was dying at 15 years of age and she would have to face the painful and difficult decision of helping to let him go, their relationship changed, causing Deborah to learn some invaluable lessons from him about life, love, grieving, and letting go. Told by Mr. Jazz himself, an ordinary cat by his own admission, Purr Prints of the Heart is a touching meow-memoir that will strike a chord with anyone whose heart carries paw-prints of love as he shares the story of his life from kitten hood to his final days on earth in the physical sense. Cleverly written in cat likeness with incredible insight, candor, charm, wisdom, and humor, Mr. Jazz takes the reader on a journey that is like a salve in book form to offer comfort to all who have had to deal with (or will have to deal with), the inevitable loss of a beloved pet. Replete with memorable moments of anticipation, outbursts of laughter, sighs of relief, sheer joy, and throes of grief, Mr. Jazz, carries a conversation with readers, putting them in real-life situations they can easily relate to and empathize with - from his days as a kitten that nobody wanted, to finally being adopted into a loving human and animal filled family that had its share of ups and downs, to his final months whereby his health was declining and he had to deal with things like frequent visits to the vet, being force fed food, resentment issues, litter issues, and the finality of coming to terms with the fact he was dying and needing to convince his beloved humans to let him go . The ending is a welcoming upturn, a refreshing reminder of the celebration of life and the indelible purr prints cats leave on our hearts and includes an invaluable "Coping With Pet Loss" section to help readers on all levels - emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and even physically to empower themselves with ways to positively honor the journey of the pet lost as well as ways to find the strength to heal and mend a broken heart.
Book Synopsis The Book of the Heart by : Eric Jager
Download or read book The Book of the Heart written by Eric Jager and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2000-08 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's increasingly electronic world, we say our personality traits are "hard-wired" and we "replay" our memories. But we use a different metaphor when we speak of someone "reading" another's mind or a desire to "turn over a new leaf"—these phrases refer to the "book of the self," an idea that dates from the beginnings of Western culture. Eric Jager traces the history and psychology of the self-as-text concept from antiquity to the modern day. He focuses especially on the Middle Ages, when the metaphor of a "book of the heart" modeled on the manuscript codex attained its most vivid expressions in literature and art. For instance, medieval saints' legends tell of martyrs whose hearts recorded divine inscriptions; lyrics and romances feature lovers whose hearts are inscribed with their passion; paintings depict hearts as books; and medieval scribes even produced manuscript codices shaped like hearts. "The Book of the Heart provides a fresh perspective on the influence of the book as artifact on our language and culture. Reading this book broadens our appreciation of the relationship between things and ideas."—Henry Petroski, author of The Book on the Bookshelf
Book Synopsis Art From Her Heart by : Kathy Whitehead
Download or read book Art From Her Heart written by Kathy Whitehead and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2008-09-18 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A picture book biography of the remarkable folk artist Clementine Hunter. Can you imagine being an artist who isn't allowed into your own show? That's what happened to folk artist Clementine Hunter. Her paintings went from hanging on her clothesline to hanging in museums, yet because of the color of her skin, a friend had to sneak her in when the gallery was closed. With lyrical writing and striking illustrations, this picture book biography introduces kids to a self-taught artist whose paintings captured scenes of backbreaking work and joyous celebrations of southern farm life. They preserve a part of American history we rarely see and prove that art can help keep the spirit alive.
Book Synopsis The Art of Philosophy by : Susanna Berger
Download or read book The Art of Philosophy written by Susanna Berger and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Delving into the intersections between artistic images and philosophical knowledge in Europe from the late sixteenth to the early eighteenth centuries, The Art of Philosophy shows that the making and study of visual art functioned as important methods of philosophical thinking and instruction. From frontispieces of books to monumental prints created by philosophers in collaboration with renowned artists, Susanna Berger examines visual representations of philosophy and overturns prevailing assumptions about the limited function of the visual in European intellectual history. Rather than merely illustrating already existing philosophical concepts, visual images generated new knowledge for both Aristotelian thinkers and anti-Aristotelians, such as Descartes and Hobbes. Printmaking and drawing played a decisive role in discoveries that led to a move away from the authority of Aristotle in the seventeenth century. Berger interprets visual art from printed books, student lecture notebooks, alba amicorum (friendship albums), broadsides, and paintings, and examines the work of such artists as Pietro Testa, Léonard Gaultier, Abraham Bosse, Dürer, and Rembrandt. In particular, she focuses on the rise and decline of the "plural image," a genre that was popular among early modern philosophers. Plural images brought multiple images together on the same page, often in order to visualize systems of logic, metaphysics, natural philosophy, or moral philosophy. Featuring previously unpublished prints and drawings from the early modern period and lavish gatefolds, The Art of Philosophy reveals the essential connections between visual commentary and philosophical thought.

Book excerpt: Giovanna is a free-lance writer and a published author of her new book, Etchings of the Heart and dreams and visions of love. This book is a result of six years of purging her soul through writing that gave way to a wondrous spiritual awakening, after a series of events beginning with the death of her father and a downward spiraling of her personal life that enabled her to see that everything in life happens for a reason. When you reach rock bottom, there is nowhere to go but up. says Giovanna Her book delves into the mysteries of life including dj vu and psychic visions and dreams. The intertwining of modern poetry with mythical characters and legends makes it ethereal and enthralling! Her fantastic view of love is reminiscent of the great love poets of old. We need a revival of great love poetry again says Giovanna. I guess I am a hopeless romantic with my moon being in Venus I believe that our sun and moon signs play a significant role in our lives. This book is a unique book of poetry, as it is a quintessential array of poetry from the heart; thus came the title Etchings of the heart Giovanna said my friends in my poetry group on writers caf and Marys Bridge, all agreed that my poems came straight from my heart and I have to agree. There are all kinds of love that I write about. There is love of family, friends, romantic love, pets, nature, and God. In all love there is beauty to be found. I also write about the paradox of love which consists of Love vs. hate or Agony and ecstasy: both sides of a fiery sword. In her poem Never was a day, Giovanna writes: for never was a day, when there was sunshine, without rain, and for love to exist without pain.
