Book Synopsis La historia cultural by : Philippe Poirrier
Download or read book La historia cultural written by Philippe Poirrier and published by Universitat de València. This book was released on 2015-05-16 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: This volume explores the history, evolution, and future of Luso-Hispanic Cultural Studies as a discipline, a pedagogical tool, and a set of working practices by bringing together a diverse group of renowned specialists to examine how the field has grown out of and radically reconsidered some of the basic premises of British Cultural Studies since the 1950s to address the many cultures of the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking world. The chapters in this volume address How Cultural Studies is being practiced in the increasingly virtual mediascapes of the twenty-first century What happens to basic critical assumptions about culture and power after they have passed through the filter of Post-Colonial and Decolonial Studies of the Luso-Hispanic world How we understand the role of culture in light of recent experiences with radical demographic shifts, populism and civil unrest within Latin America, Iberian and the Latino U.S How new ways of practising Luso-Hispanic Cultural Studies have worked their way into our pedagogy and the structure of the curriculum in the age of the increasingly privatized neoliberal university Providing keen insight and reflection on these questions, this volume is an essential read for scholars and students of Visual and Film Studies, Latin American and Iberian Studies, Luso-Brazilian Studies, Language and Culture Pedagogy, Global Studies, and for anyone interested in Cultural Studies across the Luso-Hispanic world.
Book Synopsis Building Bridges, Not Walls by : John Francis Burke
Download or read book Building Bridges, Not Walls written by John Francis Burke and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you a leader, clergy or lay, in a Catholic parish wrestling with how to bridge the multiple ethnic, linguistic, and racial communities that increasingly comprise your parish? With these cultural backgrounds frequently come diverse perspectives on everything from how to communicate with each other to how to understand God. In addition, such cultural divisions all too often manifest differences in the access these communities have to parish decision-making structures. In Building Bridges, Not Walls - Construyamos puentes, no muros, John Francis Burke highlights the dramatic impact the growing Latino presence is having in parishes across the country, considers the theology of inculturation and intercultural ministry, and provides practical pastoral ministry suggestions on doing intercultural ministry. Includes full text in both English and Spanish.
Download or read book La desilusión de la imagen written by Víctor Silva Echeto and published by Editorial GEDISA. This book was released on 2016-11 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. JENARO TALENS (escritor).

Book Synopsis Racism and Discourse in Latin America by : Teun A. van Dijk
Download or read book Racism and Discourse in Latin America written by Teun A. van Dijk and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2009 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Racism and Discourse in Latin America investigates how public discourse is involved in the daily reproduction of racism in Latin America. The essays examine political discourse, mass media discourse, textbooks and other forms of text, and talk by the white symbolic elites, looking at the ways these discourses express and confirm prejudices against indigenous people and against people from African descent. The essays show that ethnic and racial inequality in Latin America continue to exacerbate the chasm between the rich and the poor, despite formal progress in the rights of minorities during the last decades. Teun A. van Dijk brings together a multidisciplinary team of linguists and social scientists from eight Latin American countries (Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Peru), creating the first work in English that provides comprehensive insight into discursive racism across Latin America.

Book Synopsis A Companion to Spanish Environmental Cultural Studies by : Luis I. Prádanos
Download or read book A Companion to Spanish Environmental Cultural Studies written by Luis I. Prádanos and published by Boydell & Brewer. This book was released on 2023-01-17 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exploration of how writers, artists, and filmmakers expose the costs and contest the assumptions of the Capitalocene era that guides readers through the rapidly developing field of Spanish environmental cultural studies. From the scars left by Franco's dams and mines to the toxic waste dumped in Equatorial Guinea, from the cruelty of the modern pork industry to the ravages of mass tourism in the Balearic Islands, this book delves into the power relations, material practices and social imaginaries underpinning the global economic system to uncover its unaffordable human and non-human costs. Guiding the reader through the rapidly emerging field of Spanish environmental cultural studies, with chapters on such topics as extractivism, animal studies, food studies, ecofeminism, decoloniality, critical race studies, tourism, and waste studies, an international team of US and European scholars show how Spanish writers, artists, and filmmakers have illuminated and contested the growth-oriented and neo-colonialist assumptions of the current Capitalocene era. Focussed on Spain, the volume also provides models for exploring the socioecological implications of cultural manifestations in other parts of the world.
