En el ambito economico, el crecimiento esta asociado a diversos aspectos y uno de ellos es la competitividad, que a mi juicio debe empezar por proponer como objetivo prioritario la importancia de la productividad, toda vez que su dinamica refleja el uso eficiente o no de los recursos con que cuentan los paises, las empresas y los sectores. Esta es una variable fundamental cuyo comportamiento acelera o retrasa la capacidad productiva de una economia; por tanto, contextualizarla, medirla y evaluarla es de primordial importancia para formular politicas que estimulen su desarrollo."

Book excerpt: Spanish Abstract: Este artículo analiza la evolución de las exportaciones del textil mexicano, en términos de la composición de los productos vendidos en Estados Unidos (E.U.) y la Unión Europea (U.E.), de 1994 a 2015, comparando su desempeño con respecto al de sus competidores. La aplicación de una técnica estadística diferencial-estructural revela la inexistencia de un cambio estructural cualitativo relevante, que permitiera generar capacidades tendientes a desarrollar ventajas competitivas en productos alternativos de mayor valor agregado al amparo del TLCAN. Comparativamente, en el caso chino, el perfil competitivo fue diversificándose en dirección de productos más sofisticados en una senda de escalamiento productivo. En cuanto a las exportaciones mexicanas al mercado europeo, los hallazgos obtenidos muestran indicios de una transformación regresiva, en la que las ventas de prendas de vestir, originalmente destinadas a E.U., fueron redireccionadas hacia la U.E., en detrimento de la profundización de las exportaciones de insumos de mayor valor agregado.

Book excerpt: Spanish Abstract: El presente artículo tiene como propósito evaluar el desempeño de las exportaciones de confecciones textiles al mercado norteamericano de países centroamericanos -- como Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras y El Salvador -- versus países asiáticos como China, Indonesia, Cambodia, Bangladesh e India. Además, se estudia cómo las tasas de cambio real (tcr) influyen sobre las exportaciones de cada país. Como metodologías de trabajo se usan el análisis de Pareto y las técnicas econométricas. Se encontró que desde el 2005 los países centroamericanos vienen perdiendo su participación de mercado con respecto a los asiáticos. China, Indonesia y Cambodia han optimizado sus exportaciones textiles basados en la estrategia de devaluar su tipo de cambio nacional frente al dólar, mientras que Bangladesh, Indonesia e India apreciaron su moneda. En Centroamérica, Nicaragua empleó una estrategia de devaluación para mejorar sus montos exportados, mientras que la estrategia de mantener apreciado su tipo de cambio frente al dólar no ha traído beneficios para Guatemala, Honduras y El Salvador. La correlación entre las tcr y sus exportaciones de confecciones, son más significativas para los países asiáticos que para los centroamericanos. A partir de los resultados, se proponen acciones para mejorar la ejecución de los países menos favorecidos.
