This book was released on 2014 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A preliminary test estimator of variance in the bivariate normal distribution is proposed after Pitman-Morgan test of homogeneity of two variances. We propose one estimator of variance after preliminary test of two tails and another one for one tail test. The biases and mean square errors of both estimators are derived. The relative efficiency (RE) of the preliminary test estimator is studied. Computations and 3D graphs of RE for different parameters are analyzed. In order to get the maximum RE, recommendations of the significance level for the preliminary test are given for various sample sizes by using the max-min criterion.

This book was released on 2014-03-06 with total page 898 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introducing the tools of statistics and probability from the ground up An understanding of statistical tools is essential for engineers and scientists who often need to deal with data analysis over the course of their work. Statistics and Probability with Applications for Engineers and Scientists walks readers through a wide range of popular statistical techniques, explaining step-by-step how to generate, analyze, and interpret data for diverse applications in engineering and the natural sciences. Unique among books of this kind, Statistics and Probability with Applications for Engineers and Scientists covers descriptive statistics first, then goes on to discuss the fundamentals of probability theory. Along with case studies, examples, and real-world data sets, the book incorporates clear instructions on how to use the statistical packages Minitab® and Microsoft® Office Excel® to analyze various data sets. The book also features: • Detailed discussions on sampling distributions, statistical estimation of population parameters, hypothesis testing, reliability theory, statistical quality control including Phase I and Phase II control charts, and process capability indices • A clear presentation of nonparametric methods and simple and multiple linear regression methods, as well as a brief discussion on logistic regression method • Comprehensive guidance on the design of experiments, including randomized block designs, one- and two-way layout designs, Latin square designs, random effects and mixed effects models, factorial and fractional factorial designs, and response surface methodology • A companion website containing data sets for Minitab and Microsoft Office Excel, as well as JMP ® routines and results Assuming no background in probability and statistics, Statistics and Probability with Applications for Engineers and Scientists features a unique, yet tried-and-true, approach that is ideal for all undergraduate students as well as statistical practitioners who analyze and illustrate real-world data in engineering and the natural sciences.
Book Synopsis Applied Statistics: From Bivariate Through Multivariate Techniques by : Rebecca M. Warner
Download or read book Applied Statistics: From Bivariate Through Multivariate Techniques written by Rebecca M. Warner and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2013 with total page 1209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rebecca M. Warner's Applied Statistics: From Bivariate Through Multivariate Techniques, Second Edition provides a clear introduction to widely used topics in bivariate and multivariate statistics, including multiple regression, discriminant analysis, MANOVA, factor analysis, and binary logistic regression. The approach is applied and does not require formal mathematics; equations are accompanied by verbal explanations. Students are asked to think about the meaning of equations. Each chapter presents a complete empirical research example to illustrate the application of a specific method. Although SPSS examples are used throughout the book, the conceptual material will be helpful for users of different programs. Each chapter has a glossary and comprehension questions.
Book Synopsis Biostatistical Applications in Cancer Research by : Craig Beam
Download or read book Biostatistical Applications in Cancer Research written by Craig Beam and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biostatistics is defined as much by its application as it is by theory. This book provides an introduction to biostatistical applications in modern cancer research that is both accessible and valuable to the cancer biostatistician or to the cancer researcher, learning biostatistics. The topical areas include active areas of the application of biostatistics to modern cancer research: survival analysis, screening, diagnostics, spatial analysis and the analysis of microarray data. Biostatistics is an essential component of basic and clinical cancer research. The text, authored by distinguished figures in the field, addresses clinical issues in statistical analysis. The spectrum of topics discussed ranges from fundamental methodology to clinical and translational applications.

Book Synopsis Diagnostic Meta-Analysis by : Giuseppe Biondi-Zoccai
Download or read book Diagnostic Meta-Analysis written by Giuseppe Biondi-Zoccai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-24 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first exclusively devoted to the systematic synthesis of diagnostic test accuracy studies. It builds upon the major recent developments in reporting standards, search methods, and, in particular, statistical tools specifically devoted to diagnostic studies. In addition, it borrows extensively from the latest advances in systematic reviews and meta-analyses of intervention studies. After a section dedicated to methods for designing reviews, synthesizing evidence and appraising inconsistency in research, the application of these approaches is demonstrated in the context of case studies from various clinical disciplines. Diagnosis is central in medical decision-making, and in many other fields of human endeavor, such as education and psychology. The plurality of sources of evidence on diagnostic test accuracy poses a huge challenge for practitioners and researchers, as do the multiple dimensions of evidence validity, which include sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, and likelihood ratios. This book offers an invaluable resource for anyone aiming to improve decision-making processes in diagnosis, classification or risk prognostication, from epidemiologists to biostatisticians, radiologists, laboratory physicians and graduate students, as any physician interested in refining his methodological skills in clinical diagnosis.
