This book was released on 2008 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Delaware's Inland Bays in southeastern Sussex County are valuable natural resources that have been experiencing environmental degradation since the late 1960s. Stresses on the water resource include land use practices, modifications of surface drainage, ground-water pumping, and wastewater disposal. One of the primary environmental problems in the Inland Bays is nutrient over-enrichment. Nitrogen and phosphorous loads are delivered to the bays by ground water, surface water, and air. Nitrogen loading from ground-water discharge is one of the most difficult to quantify; therefore, locating these discharge areas is a critical step toward mitigating this load to the bays. Landsat 7 imagery was used to identify ground-water discharge areas in Indian River and Rehoboth and Indian River bays in Sussex County, Delaware. Panchromatic, near-infrared, and thermal bands were used to identify ice patterns and temperature differences in the surface water, which are indicative of ground-water discharge. Defining a shoreline specific to each image was critical in order to eliminate areas of the bays that were not representative of open water. Atmospheric correction was not necessary due to low humidity conditions during image acquisition. Ground-water discharge locations were identified on the north shore of Rehoboth Bay (west of the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal), Herring and Guinea creeks, the north shore of Indian River, and the north shore of Indian River Bay near Oak Orchard.

Download or read book Animal Waste and the Land-Water Interface written by Kenneth F. Steele and published by Springer. This book was released on 1995-06-19 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In agricultural areas, the use or disposal of animal wastes directly impacts the quality of the land and water. The handling of potential problems associated with the waste-ecosystem interactions requires cooperation among a combination of disciplines-from agronomy to sociology. Reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of the issues, Animal Waste and the Land-Water Interface covers the major factors critical for total watershed management, including the hydrological, chemical, biological, physical, political, and socioeconomic aspects. National and international authors provide expert coverage of all of these factors, in a successful attempt to continue and expand the communication, cooperation, and coordination among groups.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental Tracers in Subsurface Hydrology synthesizes the research of specialists into a comprehensive review of the application of environmental tracers to the study of soil water and groundwater flow. The book includes chapters which cover ionic tracers, noble gases, chlorofluorocarbons, tritium, chlorine-36, oxygen-18, deuterium, and isotopes of carbon, strontium, sulphur and nitrogen. Applications of the tracers include the estimation of vertical and horizontal groundwater velocities, groundwater recharge rates, inter-aquifer leakage and mixing processes, chemical processes and palaeohydrology. Practicing hydrologists, soil physicists and hydrology professors and students will find the book to be a valuable support in their work.
