Vorlesungen ilber funktionelle Padologie (Springer-Verlag, 1959), the then-current state of knowledge in the field of pedology was compiled by pediatricians from the most diverse countries. In contrast to the term "pediatrics," the word "pedo logy" was used to refer to the physiology of the child, because although the physiological development of the child is intimately associated with disturbances of body functions, both are different from experience with adults. Pedology is more comprehensive than physiology, in that it covers both the physiological and psychological development of the normal child. Favorable response to the above-mentioned book stimulated the project of documenting further progress in pedology at certain intervals, especially by authors who themselves had contributed substantially to these advances. In 1965 and 1968, respectively, two volumes under the title Fortschritte der Pado logie were published by Springer-Verlag-Berlin-Heidelberg-New York. Whereas up to now the English language was used in only some of the articles, in the present volume all authors present their papers in English. Marburg, Spring 1973 The Editor Contents W. Book excerpt: This book's power to cure criminal behavior alone will provide trillions of dollars in economic benefit to humanity. Human pheromones provide the final epigenetic key to the medical puzzles of human behavior, physical and mental illness. Pheromones, their deficiencies, receptions, and excesses, accommodate the synthesis of economic, neuroanatomical, physiological, chemical, and behavioral evidence into a new theory of sociopathy and disease: the pheromone theory of love and illness. Surely this book will irrevocably revolutionize human social organization. We must use this new knowledge wisely and well. This is a book of genius. This is a book for the ages.

Book excerpt: Rheology: Theory and Applications, Volume 5 focuses on overtly fluid behavior of polymers, including the theory of large deformations, thermoelastic effects, elastic phenomena observed during the extrusion of polymeric melts, and theories of the structure of liquids and glasses. The selection first elaborates on the application of large deformation theory to the thermomechanical behavior of rubberlike polymers and unstable flow of molten polymers. Discussions focus on the mechanism proposed for unstable flow, ripple and associated effects, direct observation of waviness phenomena, empirical behavior of porous, unfilled, and filled rubberlike polymers, and problems connected with the interpretation of mechanical response parameters. The text then examines elasticity effects in polymer extrusion and strength and extensibility of elastomers. The publication takes a look at free volume and polymer rheology and studies of the deformation of crystalline polymers. Topics include the contribution of the two orientation processes to the birefringence, deformation of superstructure, rate of orientation of crystalline regions, free volume and physical state, glass transition and free volume, and reappraisal of time-temperature superposition. The manuscript also elaborates on the deformation and dissipative processes in high polymeric solids and the thermodynamics of deformation. The selection is a vital source of data for researchers interested in the theories and applications of rheology.

Book excerpt: "NeuroKids" is the innovative answer to the clinical challenges in child neurology as workbook and corresponding app. With the basic idea of mind maps, the classic textbook has been further developed to provide more targeted information. An uniform classification allows a quick orientation: The Paediatric Clinical Scouts (PCS) provide a condensed knowledge overview and are a guide to diagnostic work-up and therapeutic decision-making. The PCS concentrate on the single patient and give professional skills for emergency medicine, for health care of chronically ill children and adolescents and rehabilitative and palliative therapy. The PCS are complemented by a comprehensive, precise, internationally oriented drug register as well as schemes for neurological and developmental neurological examination with the evidence of good practice. "I am very happy that NeuroKids was endorsed and supported by the board of the European Paediatric Neurology Society (EPNS). We sincerely believe this is a major step forward in training and educating young and old paediatric neurologists and are therefore extremely happy to collaborate in this project." Book excerpt: "I am pleased to include this text in my library, and I am confident that it will serve as an excellent resource for years to come."--PsycCRITIQUES This book serves as an A-Z reference that addresses the neuropsychological aspects of 300 neurological, neuropsychiatric, and neuromedical disorders. Each entry follows a 5 section structure that will cover (1) essential features of the disorder (2) physiological basis of the disorder (3) neuropsychological and other clinical presentation (4) assessment and diagnostic practices (5) evidence-based treatments and interventions. This book is written for clinical professionals and students in training to aid in clinical awareness, diagnostic accuracy, and intervention successfulness. The text goes beyond the emotional and behavioral aspects of each disorder and views the broader impacts of the symptoms. This approach emphasizes the importance of looking at the other functional impacts of these manifestations (e.g. cognitive deficits secondary to depression, orthodopaedic ambulation issues). The emphasis on neuropsychological sequelae, physiological basis, and means of diagnosing and treating of 300 conditions across the lifespan make this the most comprehensive resource available to professionals in and around neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry and the behavioral neurosciences. Key Features: Presents 300 highly-structured entries providing disorder features, pathology and physiology, clinical representation, assessment and diagnosis, and evidence-based treatments and interventions Covers neurological, neuropsychiatric, and neuromedical disorders across the lifespan (pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations) Includes interventions and methods of treatment for the outcomes patients may experience

This book was released on 2018-12-19 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second book in a two-volume set tells how the healthcare community is working with patients and their caregivers to help improve health using P4 medicine, proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. The healthcare community is finding ways to predict one’s susceptibility to diseases, so they can be prevented from occurring, when possible. When diseases do emerge, it is developing personalized therapies and ways for patients to participate in their own healthcare. At the same time, systems thinking dispels many misconceptions, such as ‘natural’ foods and ‘superfoods’. In fact, the only true superfood is mother’s breast milk. Also, dietary antioxidants prevent inflammation by activating our natural antioxidant system (Nrf2). However, environmental toxins can counteract our best efforts. Still, systems thinking encourages us to fix the problem and not the blame. This book will appeal to professionals, non-professionals and patients, who can learn how to improve healthcare and prevent diseases, while reversing the effects of global climate change.
