Book Synopsis Sustainable Energy Investment by : Joseph Nyangon
Download or read book Sustainable Energy Investment written by Joseph Nyangon and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2021-03-10 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the technical, market, and policy innovations for unlocking sustainable investment in the energy sector. While finalizing this book, the COVID-19 pandemic is cutting a devastating swath through the global economy, causing the biggest fall in energy sector investment, exacerbating the global trade finance gap, worsening signs of growing income inequality, and devastating the health and livelihoods of millions. What is the parallel between the COVID-19 pandemic and the climate change crisis? The impacts of the global pandemic are expected to last for a few years, whereas those associated with the climate crisis will play out over several decades with potentially irreversible consequences. However, both show that the cost of inaction or delay in addressing the risks can lead to devastating outcomes or a greater probability of irreversible, catastrophic damages. In the context of sustainable energy investment and the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy, what ways can financial markets and institutions support net-zero-emission activities and the shift to a sustainable economy, including investment in energy efficiency, low-carbon and renewable energy technologies? This book provides students, policymakers, and energy investment professionals with the knowledge and theoretical tools necessary to address related questions in sustainable energy investment, risk management, and energy innovation agendas.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Building Technologies Program and the DOE research laboratories conduct a great deal of research on building technologies. However, differences in models and simulation tools used by various research groups make it difficult to compare results among studies. The authors have developed a set of 22 hypothetical benchmark buildings and weighting factors for nine locations across the country, for a total of 198 buildings.

Book Synopsis Building Performance Simulation for Design and Operation by : Jan L.M. Hensen
Download or read book Building Performance Simulation for Design and Operation written by Jan L.M. Hensen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-24 with total page 922 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When used appropriately, building performance simulation has the potential to reduce the environmental impact of the built environment, to improve indoor quality and productivity, as well as to facilitate future innovation and technological progress in construction. Since publication of the first edition of Building Performance Simulation for Design and Operation, the discussion has shifted from a focus on software features to a new agenda, which centres on the effectiveness of building performance simulation in building life cycle processes. This new edition provides a unique and comprehensive overview of building performance simulation for the complete building life cycle from conception to demolition, and from a single building to district level. It contains new chapters on building information modelling, occupant behaviour modelling, urban physics modelling, urban building energy modelling and renewable energy systems modelling. This new edition keeps the same chapter structure throughout including learning objectives, chapter summaries and assignments. Moreover, the book: • Provides unique insights into the techniques of building performance modelling and simulation and their application to performance-based design and operation of buildings and the systems which service them. • Provides readers with the essential concepts of computational support of performance-based design and operation. • Provides examples of how to use building simulation techniques for practical design, management and operation, their limitations and future direction. It is primarily intended for building and systems designers and operators, and postgraduate architectural, environmental or mechanical engineering students.

Book Synopsis Procedures for Commercial Building Energy Audits by : John Cowan
Download or read book Procedures for Commercial Building Energy Audits written by John Cowan and published by American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. This book was released on 2004 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Procedures for Commercial Building Energy Audits provides purchasers and providers of energy audit services with a complete definition of good procedures for an energy survey and analysis. It also provides a format for defining buildings and their energy use that will allow data to be shared in meaningful ways. This publication specifically avoids a "cookbook" approach, recognizing that all buildings are different and each analyst needs to exercise a substantial amount of judgment. Instead, Procedures sets out generalized procedures to guide the analyst and the building owner, and provides a uniform method of reporting basic information. Different levels of analysis are organized into the following categories:Preliminary Energy Use Analysis Level I Analysis "Walk-Through Analysis Level II Analysis"Energy Survey and Analysis Level III Analysis"Detailed Analysis of Capital-Intensive Modifications The book comes with a CD that provides more than 25 guideline forms, with explanatory material, to illustrate the content and arrangement of a complete, effective energy analysis report. The CD provides these forms in both PDF and Word format, enabling you to customize and print each form. For the downloadable version, the PDF of the book and the guideline forms are included in a single .zip file. You will need WinZip or an equivalent program to open the file. ASHRAE Research Project 669 and ASHRAE Special Project 56.

Book Synopsis Assessment of Advanced Solid-State Lighting by : National Research Council
Download or read book Assessment of Advanced Solid-State Lighting written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-04-27 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The standard incandescent light bulb, which still works mainly as Thomas Edison invented it, converts more than 90% of the consumed electricity into heat. Given the availability of newer lighting technologies that convert a greater percentage of electricity into useful light, there is potential to decrease the amount of energy used for lighting in both commercial and residential applications. Although technologies such as compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) have emerged in the past few decades and will help achieve the goal of increased energy efficiency, solid-state lighting (SSL) stands to play a large role in dramatically decreasing U.S. energy consumption for lighting. This report summarizes the current status of SSL technologies and products-light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and organic LEDs (OLEDs)-and evaluates barriers to their improved cost and performance. Assessment of Advanced Solid State Lighting also discusses factors involved in achieving widespread deployment and consumer acceptance of SSL products. These factors include the perceived quality of light emitted by SSL devices, ease of use and the useful lifetime of these devices, issues of initial high cost, and possible benefits of reduced energy consumption.
