Analecta 21 is a varied number. Three themes are developed covering exegetical, historical, sociological, theological and philosophical fields. The first explores hermeneutics related to the understanding and assimilation of the biblical text; the second addresses the weight of ideology in the construction of narratives invoked in the representation of the Other; the third pursues this theme of encounter and otherness in various historical perspectives. From a queer exegesis of the narrative of Acts 8 to the question of the extent of Christ's salvation in the hypothesis of inhabited worlds in science fiction literature, the eclecticism of these academic contributions, as well as their relevance to contemporary debates, promise the reader multiple changes of scenery and genuinely new thinking. This issue also includes a previously unpublished contribution by Paul Ricœur, a restitution of a three-speaker conference given in January 2000 on the theme of justice between ethics and law.

This period saw the incorporation of the then Presbyterian Hall into the ecumenical United Faculty of Theology in 1969 and then in 1977 the union of the Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregationalist Churches to form the Uniting Church of Australia. Harry was a theological guide to both these unions, as well as a playfully serious mentor to several generations of theological students, Anglican and Roman Catholic as well as Presbyterian and later Uniting Church members. He was noted for a teaching style in which thought became embodied in gesture and any object lying to hand was a potential teaching aid; for his impish sense of humour; and for the intensity of focused attention he gave to any question or idea put to him. The present collection of articles by appreciative friends, former students and colleagues both in Australia and overseas, was presented to Harry on his 77th birthday.

Using the equipment of contemporary analytical philosophy, Alston explores, partly refashions, and defends a largely traditional conception of God and His work in the world a conception that finds its origins in medieval philosophical theology. In Part 1, Alston develops a conceptual scheme for discussing the topic of theological language. He also argues that there is a core of literal talk about God and even a core of predicates univocally applicable to God and creatures.
