Book Synopsis Espacio, economía y sociedad by : Joan-Eugeni Sánchez
Download or read book Espacio, economía y sociedad written by Joan-Eugeni Sánchez and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Chimneys in the Desert by : Fernando Rocchi
Download or read book Chimneys in the Desert written by Fernando Rocchi and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2005-12-23 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers new topics and new perspectives on the economic history of Argentina before the 1930 Depression. It focuses on the evolution of early industrialization in a country primarily associated with cattle-ranching and agriculture, and single-mindedly characterized as a case of a successful export economy. Taking an original approach, the book cross-examines traditional economic issues such as production and finances, and new cultural patterns, such as consumption, the role of women, paternalism, and ideology. The first years of Argentina’s industrialization, from the 1870s to the 1920s, coincided with a time of great innovation, a brisk turn from tradition, and quick modernization. This book shows that industry not only helped Argentina’s economy along, but spearheaded its modernization. It challenges the long-lasting “canonical version” that industry was a victim of a capital market and a state extremely hostile to manufacturing. Access to financing for industrial endeavors was much easier than previously thought, while the state supported industry through tariffs.

Book Synopsis Placing Critical Geography by : Lawrence D. Berg
Download or read book Placing Critical Geography written by Lawrence D. Berg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the multiple histories of critical geography as it developed in 14 different locations around the globe, whilst bringing together a range of approaches in critical geography. It is the first attempt to provide a comprehensive account of a wide variety of historical geographies of critical geography from around the world. Accordingly, the chapters provide accounts of the development of critical approaches in geography from beyond the hegemonic Anglo-American metropoles. Bringing together geographers from a wide range of regional and intellectual milieus, this volume provides a critical overview that is international and illustrates the interactions (or lack thereof) between different critical geographers, working across a range of spaces. The chapters provide a more nuanced history of critical geography, suggesting that while there were sometimes strong connections with Anglo-American critical geography, there were also deeply independent developments that were part of the construction of very different kinds of critical geography in different parts of the world. Placing Critical Geographies provides an excellent companion to existing histories of critical geography and will be important reading for researchers as well as undergraduate and graduate students of the history and philosophy of geography.
Download or read book Beyond Slavery written by Darién J. Davis and published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. This book was released on 2006-12-21 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond Slavery traces the enduring impact and legacy of the African diaspora in Latin America and the Caribbean in the modern era. In a rich set of essays, the volume explores the multiple ways that Africans have affected political, economic, and cultural life throughout the region. Focusing on areas traditionally associated with Afro-Latin American culture such as Brazil and the Caribbean basin, this innovative work also highlights places such as Rio de La Plata and Central America, where the African legacy has been important but little studied. The contributors engage readers interested in the African diaspora in a series of vigorous debates ranging from agency and resistance to transculturation, displacement, cross-national dialogue, and popular culture. Documenting the array of diverse voices of Afro-Latin Americans throughout the region, this interdisciplinary book brings to life both their histories and contemporary experiences. Larson's introduction places articles within the context of Andean economic systems, while Harris concludes with an appreciation of the relationships between mestizo and indigenous ethnic identities in the context of market relations. Book Synopsis El Cuerpo un Espacio PedagóGico by : Norma Delia Dur N. Amavizca
Download or read book El Cuerpo un Espacio PedagóGico written by Norma Delia Dur N. Amavizca and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
