Seeking to ameliorate the analytical lacuna and concentrating on both the meso and micro levels of religious public involvement, the contributors explain how representatives from religious and political institutions act and interact in a variety of ways for various purposes. Analysing empirical examples from both Europe and beyond, and including a variety of religions, including multi-faith platforms, the volume examines selected religious actors’ objectives, means and strategies and effects in order to address the following questions: • What are selected religious actors’ public and/or political activities and objectives? • In what ways and with what results do selected religious actors operate in various public spheres? • What are the consequences of religious actors’ political involvement, and which factors condition the degree to which they are successful? Whilst focusing mainly on Europe, the book also utilizes examples from Egypt, Turkey and the USA to provide a valuable and unique comparative focus. The contributors demonstrate that various religious actors, whether functioning as interest groups or social movements, and almost irrespective of the religious tradition to which they belong and the culture from which they emanate, do not necessarily differ markedly in terms of strategies. Une attention nouvelle est à ce titre portée à la qualité des espaces extérieurs aux abords des immeubles dont ils sont propriétaires et gestionnaires. Cela se traduit notamment par une évolution dans leurs pratiques de gestion, que cette recherche explore autour de la notion de « gestion du cadre de vie ».Au sein de l'organisation des bailleurs, quels professionnels se consacrent à la gestion du cadre de vie ? À quels enjeux cette fonction est-elle attachée ? À quelles représentations est-elle associée, par quelles pratiques se traduit-elle, et avec quels effets sur les quartiers ? Si les activités de gestion locative, d'entretien du patrimoine, et de construction sont au cœur du métier des bailleurs, la gestion du cadre de vie est quant à elle beaucoup moins identifiée, y compris en interne, alors même que la fabrique des quartiers d'habitat social -tout comme d'autres espaces urbanisés- interpelle de plus en plus cette modalité de l'action urbaine. La recherche urbaine s'est intéressée à l'habitat social sous l'angle des politiques publiques du logement, de la production des logements sociaux, du peuplement et de la mixité sociale, de la Politique de la Ville, de la rénovation urbaine, ou encore de la participation des habitants. La contribution des bailleurs à la gestion des espaces urbains des quartiers HLM demeure quant à elle peu défrichée. Il en résulte que la gestion du cadre de vie n'est pas conceptualisée par la recherche, et qu'elle ne peut pas être réduite à la seule gestion urbaine de proximité qui a fait déjà l'objet d'investigations.Cette thèse, réalisée dans le cadre d'une CIFRE (Convention Industrielle de Formation par la Recherche), s'appuie sur une immersion dans un organisme francilien pour étudier les pratiques des agents du bailleur qui, dans différents services -de manière directe ou indirecte, formelle ou informelle- contribuent à la qualité du cadre de vie et à sa gestion. Cette recherche vise à défricher cette préoccupation montante et à produire des connaissances sur la transformation des pratiques des bailleurs sociaux.
