Book excerpt: The classic textbook from Pijush Kundu, Fluid Mechanics, has been once again revised and updated by Dr. David Dowling and Dr. Jesse Capecelatro to better illustrate this important subject for modern students. With expanded topics and concepts presented more clearly in a revised didactic sequence, Fluid Mechanics, Seventh Edition guides students from the fundamentals to the analysis and application of fluid mechanics, including turbulence, gravity waves, compressible flow and such diverse applications as aerodynamics and geophysical fluid mechanics. Its broad and deep coverage, provided by 15 Chapters, 4 Appendices, 144 examples, and 568 exercises, continues to be ideal for both a first or second course in fluid mechanics at the graduate or advanced undergraduate level, and is well-suited to the needs of modern scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and others seeking fluid mechanics knowledge. - As with prior editions, the new edition continues to accommodate the needs of upper-level students who have completed minimal prior study of fluid mechanics - Enriched with 10 new real-world examples and 66 new exercises? - Computational worked examples and exercises using MATLAB have been added? - For improved clarity and readability much of the text has been re-written and chapter ordering has been revised
Download or read book Fluid Mechanics written by L D Landau and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1987-08-17 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the most comprehensive introductory graduate or advanced undergraduate text in fluid mechanics available. It builds up from the fundamentals, often in a general way, to widespread applications, to technology and geophysics. New to this second edition are discussions on the universal dimensions similarity scaling for the laminar boundary layer equations and on the generalized vector field derivatives. In addition, new material on the generalized streamfunction treatment shows how streamfunction may be used in three-dimensional flows. Finally, a new Computational Fluid Dynamics chapter enables compulations of some simple flows and provides entry to more advanced literature.* Basic introduction to the subject of fluid mechanics, intended for undergraduate and beginning graduate students of science and engineering. * Includes topics of special interest for geophysicists and to engineers. * New and generalized treatment of similar laminar boundary layers, streamfunctions for three-dimensional flows, vector field derivatives, and gas dynamics. Also a new generalized treatment of boundary conditions in fluid mechanics, and expanded treatment of viscous flows.

This book was released on 2020-12-03 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics, 9th Edition offers comprehensive topical coverage, with varied examples and problems, application of the visual component of fluid mechanics, and a strong focus on effective learning. The authors have designed their presentation to enable the gradual development of reader confidence in problem solving. Each important concept is introduced in easy-to-understand terms before more complicated examples are discussed. The 9th Edition includes new coverage of finite control volume analysis and compressible flow, as well as a selection of new problems. Continuing this important work’s tradition of extensive real-world applications, each chapter includes The Wide World of Fluids case study boxes in each chapter. In addition, there are a wide variety of videos designed to enhance comprehension, support visualization skill building and engage students more deeply with the material and concepts.

Book Synopsis New Method of Determining the Polar Curve of an Airplane in Flight by : B. N. Yegorov
Download or read book New Method of Determining the Polar Curve of an Airplane in Flight written by B. N. Yegorov and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fundamental defect of existing methods for the determination of the polar of an airplane in flight is the impossibility of obtaining the thrust or the resistance of the propeller for any type airplane with any type engine. The new method is based on the premise that for zero propeller thrust the mean angle of attack of the blade is approximately the same for all propellers if this angle is reckoned from the aerodynamic chord of the profile section. This angle was determined from flight tests. Knowing the mean angle of the blade setting the angle of attack of the propeller blade at zero thrust can be found and the propeller speed in gliding obtained. The experimental check of the new method carried out on several airplanes gave positive results. The basic assumptions for the construction of the polars and the method of analyzing the flight data are given.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Fluid Dynamics by : Richard W. Johnson
Download or read book Handbook of Fluid Dynamics written by Richard W. Johnson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-05-28 with total page 1962 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides professionals in the field of fluid dynamics with a comprehensive guide and resource. The book balances three traditional areas of fluid mechanics - theoretical, computational, and experimental - and expounds on basic science and engineering techniques. Each chapter introduces a topic, discusses the primary issues related to this subject, outlines approaches taken by experts, and supplies references for further information. Topics discussed include: basic engineering fluid dynamics classical fluid dynamics turbulence modeling reacting flows multiphase flows flow and porous media high Reynolds number asymptotic theories finite difference method finite volume method finite element method spectral element methods for incompressible flows experimental methods, such as hot-wire anemometry, laser-Doppler velocimetry, and flow visualization applications, such as axial-flow compressor and fan aerodynamics, turbomachinery, airfoils and wings, atmospheric flows, and mesoscale oceanic flows The text enables experts in particular areas to become familiar with useful information from outside their specialization, providing a broad reference for the significant areas within fluid dynamics.
