This book was released on 1993-05-25 with total page 1036 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equadiff-91 stems from the series of conferences initiated by the late Professor Vogel. The first conference Equadiff-70 which was held in Marseille. Since then, similar conferences had been held in Brussels, Florence, Wurzburg as well as Xanthi. The purpose of the Equadiff series of conferences is to present the latest development in the field of differential equations, both ordinary and partial, including their numerical treatment and applications to the mathematics community. These conferences had attracted renowned mathematicians from all over the world to present their studies and findings. The latest conference under the series was Equadiff-91, held in Barcelona. It attracted some 30 renowned mathematicians. Researchers and graduate students of pure and applied mathematics will find this compilation of conference proceedings up-to-date, relevant and insightful.
Book Synopsis Qualitative Theory of Parabolic Equations, Part 1 by : T. I. Zelenyak
Download or read book Qualitative Theory of Parabolic Equations, Part 1 written by T. I. Zelenyak and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-09-06 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the qualitative theory of ordinary differential equations, the Liapunov method plays a fundamental role. To use their analogs for the analysis of stability of solutions to parabolic, hyperparabolic, and other nonclassical equations and systems, time-invariant a priori estimates have to be devised for solutions. In this publication only parabolic problems are considered. Here lie, mainly, the problems which have been investigated most thoroughly --- the construction of Liapunov functionals which naturally generalize Liapunov functions for nonlinear parabolic equations of the second order with one spatial variable. The authors establish stabilizing solutions theorems, and the necessary and sufficient conditions of general and asymptotic stability of stationary solutions, including the so-called critical case. Attraction domains for stable solutions of mixed problems for these equations are described. Furthermore, estimates for the number of stationary solutions are obtained.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Dynamical Systems by : B. Fiedler
Download or read book Handbook of Dynamical Systems written by B. Fiedler and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2002-02-21 with total page 1099 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is volume II in a series collecting mathematical state-of-the-art surveys in the field of dynamical systems. Much of this field has developed from interactions with other areas of science, and this volume shows how concepts of dynamical systems further the understanding of mathematical issues that arise in applications. Although modeling issues are addressed, the central theme is the mathematically rigorous investigation of the resulting differential equations and their dynamic behavior. However, the authors and editors have made an effort to ensure readability on a non-technical level for mathematicians from other fields and for other scientists and engineers. The eighteen surveys collected here do not aspire to encyclopedic completeness, but present selected paradigms. The surveys are grouped into those emphasizing finite-dimensional methods, numerics, topological methods, and partial differential equations. Application areas include the dynamics of neural networks, fluid flows, nonlinear optics, and many others. While the survey articles can be read independently, they deeply share recurrent themes from dynamical systems. Attractors, bifurcations, center manifolds, dimension reduction, ergodicity, homoclinicity, hyperbolicity, invariant and inertial manifolds, normal forms, recurrence, shift dynamics, stability, to namejust a few, are ubiquitous dynamical concepts throughout the articles.
Book Synopsis Nonlinear Evolution Equations by : Nina Nikolaevna Uraltseva
Download or read book Nonlinear Evolution Equations written by Nina Nikolaevna Uraltseva and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1995-05-19 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection focuses on nonlinear problems in partial differential equations. Most of the papers are based on lectures presented at the seminar on partial differential equations and mathematical physics at St. Petersburg University. Among the topics explored are the existence and properties of solutions of various classes of nonlinear evolution equations, nonlinear imbedding theorems, bifurcations of solutions, and equations of mathematical physics (Navier-Stokes type equations and the nonlinear Schrodinger equation). The book will be useful to researchers and graduate students working in partial differential equations and mathematical physics.

Book Synopsis Recent Progress in Inequalities by : G.V. Milovanovic
Download or read book Recent Progress in Inequalities written by G.V. Milovanovic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is dedicated to the late Professor Dragoslav S. Mitrinovic(1908-1995), one of the most accomplished masters in the domain of inequalities. Inequalities are to be found everywhere and play an important and significant role in almost all subjects of mathematics as well as in other areas of sciences. Professor Mitrinovic used to say: `There are no equalities, even in human life inequalities are always encountered.' This volume provides an extensive survey of the most current topics in almost all subjects in the field of inequalities, written by 85 outstanding scientists from twenty countries. Some of the papers were presented at the International Memorial Conference dedicated to Professor D.S. Mitrinovic, which was held at the University of Nis, June 20-22, 1996. Audience: This book will be of great interest to researchers in real, complex and functional analysis, special functions, approximation theory, numerical analysis and computation, and other fields, as well as to graduate students requiring the most up-to-date results.

Book Synopsis Modern Mathematical Methods in Transport Theory by : Greenberg
Download or read book Modern Mathematical Methods in Transport Theory written by Greenberg and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Eleventh International Transport Theory Conference and Symposium in honor of the sixty-fifth birthday of Kenneth Case and the sixtieth birthday of Paul Zweifel was held in Blacksburg, Virginia, during May 22-26, 1989, on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). This volume consists of a selection of the invited papers delivered at the Conference, and represents a cross section of the research currently being carried out in the field of transport theory. The volume is divided into two sections. The Symposium lectures are intended each to summarize an important aspect of transport theory, as well as to present timely new results of the author's research interest. The Conference lectures are contributions of each author on his current research. As has been the custom in this series of conferences, each lecturer was invited to participate by the organizing committee of the Conference: W. Greenberg, Virginia Tech, chairman; V. Boffi, Universita di Firenze; N. Corngold, California Institute of Technology; B. Ganapol, University of Arizona; N. McCormick, University of Washington; P. Nelson, Texas Tech; G. Pomraning, University of California, Los Angeles. The Eleventh International Transport Theory Conference was funded by generous con tributions from Science Applications International Corporation, R. Beyster, president, and from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Conference participants, and, we believe, researchers in this and related areas, are indebted to these organizations. We would like to thank Lamberto Rondoni, in the graduate program at Virginia Tech, for proofreading manuscripts of all the Italian contributors.
