Book Synopsis Introducción a la epistemología contemporánea by : Jonathan Dancy
Download or read book Introducción a la epistemología contemporánea written by Jonathan Dancy and published by Tecnos Editorial S A. This book was released on 2007 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Critical Ethology and Post-Anthropocentric Ethics written by Roberto Marchesini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-22 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary purpose of this book is to contribute to an overcoming of the traditional separation between humanties and life sciences which, according to the authors, is required today both by the developments of these disciplines and by the social problems they have to face. The volume discusses the theoretical, epistemological and ethical repercussions of the main acquisitions obtained in the last decades from the behavioral sciences. Both the authors are inspired by the concept of a “critical ethology”, oriented to archive the nature/culture and human/animal dichotomies. The book proposes a theoretical and methodological restructuring of the comparative study of the animal behavior, learning, and cultures, focused on the fact that thought, culture and language are not exclusively human prerogatives. The proposed analysis includes a critique of speciesism and determinism in the ethical field, and converge with the Numanities, to which the series is dedicated, on a key point: it is necessary to arrive at an education system able to offer scientific, social and ethical skills that are trasversal and transcendent to the traditional humanities/life sciences bipartition. Skills that are indispensable for facing the complex challenges of the contemporary society and promoting a critical reflection of humanity on itself.

Book Synopsis The Other Side of Language by : Gemma Corradi Fiumara
Download or read book The Other Side of Language written by Gemma Corradi Fiumara and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-08-21 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1990. Our philosophy is grounded in only half a language, in which the power of discourse is deployed and the strength of listening ignored. We are inhabitants of a culture that knows how to speak but not how to listen, so we constantly mistake warring monologues for genuine dialogue. In this remarkable book, Gemma Corradi Fiumara seeks to redress that balance by examining the other side of language - listening. Synthesising the insights of Wittgenstein, Heidegger and Gadamer, among many others, she puts forward a powerful argument for the replacement of the `silent' silence of traditional Western thought with the rich openness of an authentic listening.

Book excerpt: “Birth” could be the main concept of a philosophy of commencement: indeed, it is not only a biological event or an effective metaphor for new beginning, but also the sign that being, knowledge and action, born themselves, have the power to give birth to something. Birth is essentially that which has neither memory nor appropriation of itself: it is a destiny and a choice that confirms the features of necessity and freedom bound in every coming into the world. Thoughts about birth can be found, for example, in Arendt’s, Nietzsche’s and Vico’s works, as well as in the ancient and modern age, wherever the burden of the change has been felt. The concept of birth passes through contemporary philosophy which seeks to rebuild the historical framework of critical reflection.
Book Synopsis Technology and Anarchy by : Simona Chiodo
Download or read book Technology and Anarchy written by Simona Chiodo and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-12-04 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Technology and Anarchy: A Reading of Our Era, Simona Chiodo argues that our technological era can be read as the most radical form of anarchism ever experienced. People are not only removing the role of the expert as a mediator, but also trying, for the first time in history, to replace the role of a transcendent god itself by creating, especially through information technology, a totally immanent technological entity characterized by the typical ontological prerogatives of the divine: omnipresence (by being everywhere), omniscience (by knowing everything, especially about us), omnipotence (by having power, especially over us), and inscrutability. Chiodo proposes a novel view of our technological era by reading it as the last step of a precise trajectory of Western thought, i.e. as the most radical form of anarchism we have ever experienced, due to the crisis of the founding epistemological relationship between ideality and reality. By doing this, Chiodo helps fill the gap between technological innovation and the humanities, which is becoming an emerging research goal that is more and more urgent in order to face the greatest challenges of our present and future.
