Book excerpt: The Metaverse, an expanding digital space, is at the forefront of a technological revolution that will redefine how we interact with the digital world. Yet, as this fascinating landscape evolves, it presents an array of complex challenges, particularly in the realm of entrepreneurship. The current literature on Metaverse entrepreneurship is notably lacking, leaving a void in our understanding of the Metaverse's potential and the role of entrepreneurs within it. Critical questions about the emergence of entrepreneurial ecosystems, the evolution of entrepreneurship frontiers, and the impact of innovation and creativity within the Metaverse remain largely unanswered. Entrepreneurship and Creativity in the Metaverse serves as a guide to comprehending and harnessing the Metaverse's vast potential. As a space with fewer limitations than the physical world, creativity and entrepreneurship have immense potential to flourish within the Metaverse. It provides a much-needed roadmap for scholars, entrepreneurs, educators, industry experts, and policymakers to navigate this uncharted territory and thrive within it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essential problem in entrepreneurship is improving the performance of entrepreneurs. The most important theories will be the ones that most enable us to predict and then ultimately influence entrepreneurial performance. This book develops a new and more accurate theory of entrepreneurial performance based in entrepreneurial creativity. The field of entrepreneurship has a long tradition of expecting entrepreneurial performance to be influenced by creativity, tracing back even before the pioneering work of Joseph Schumpeter (1883 to 1950), who defined entrepreneurship as creative-destruction—creating the new by supplanting or destroying the old. Subsequently, psychologist Robert Sternberg defined creativity as broadly encompassing creative aspects of personality, motivation, intellect, thinking style and relevant knowledge. Using Sternberg’s definition of creativity, the authors reviewed the evidence directly linking entrepreneurial creativity and entrepreneurial performance, concluding that the linkage is both statistically and practically significant. In order to scientifically tie entrepreneurship to creativity the book pursues a number of major objectives: In parts one and two, the authors remind us of our scientific challenge in the light of the depressing levels of performance typically to be found in the real world of entrepreneurship and explores the limitations of the dominant paradigms driving research in the field of entrepreneurship today. In part three, they bring together existing evidence to demonstrate the predictive and explanatory powers of creativity in relation to entrepreneurship. In part four, they further explore correlations between creativity and entrepreneurial performance at the individual and macro or society, levels. In summary, the book offers a bold predictive theory linking entrepreneurial creativity to entrepreneurial performance, however neither as boldly as a definitional linkage nor as timidly as one in a hundred or so factors potentially explaining entrepreneurial performance. This result is a general scientific theory that offers a serious challenge to entrepreneurial scholars who are pursuing other means for understanding the causality of entrepreneurial performance.

A number of new technologies have come together to enable its vision. Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) headsets have become cheaper and more powerful improving the user experience. Blockchain has enabled digital currencies and NFTs. The new methods to transact and own digital goods are allowing creators to monetize their activities through tokens. In addition to monetization, and as a means to exchange value, token-holders can also participate in the platform’s governance (e.g., vote on decisions). This democratic ownership economy coupled with the possibility of interoperability could unlock immense economic opportunities whereby digital goods and services are no longer captive to a singular gaming platform or brand. As the world steps into the metaverse, it is imperative to spark conversations with all objects and those interacting within the next dimension. Applying Metalytics to Measure Customer Experience in the Metaverse introduces metalytics, a new perspective on analytics for the new dimension of spatial and immersive Web 3.0. It presents the new conversations in the elements of a new digital age converging at a large scale. Covering topics such as big data analytics, financial services, and network analysis, this premier reference source is an essential resource for business leaders and executives, IT managers, entrepreneurs, financial specialists, consultants, statisticians, marketers, government officials, students and educators of higher education, librarians, researchers, and academicians.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Towards a Digital Renaissance traces the excitement and optimism of the early internet, the outsider cyberpunk ethic and open access. But it also monitors the more complex but ultimately more commercialised online world of today, a world dominated by corporate business in which many feel that surveillance has become overwhelming. Jeremy Silver's involvement in various start-ups, both as CEO and investor, led to his leadership of Digital Catapult. Towards a Digital Renaissance examines the interplay between state and private financing in the digital sector. It also argues for the internet's potential to transition from a 'medieval' world of the GAFA big four (Google, Amazon, Facebook and Apple), closed and walled up like medieval city states, to a 'digital renaissance' based on the free exchange of ideas and an enabling metaverse made up of virtual reality and artificial intelligence that deepens our experience of reality rather than restricting or monitoring it.
