It offers actionable recommendations for policymakers, industry leaders, and educational institutions to promote gender equality and harness the potential and value of women in this field.
Book Synopsis Gender in Nordic Blue Economies by : Svels, Kristina
Download or read book Gender in Nordic Blue Economies written by Svels, Kristina and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2022-12-05 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2022-561/ The Sisters in the Arctic Blue (SAB) network aims in their first report, the Gender in Nordic Blue Economies: initial networking results and future academic research, to develop gender dimensions for Nordic Blue Economies. The SAB report shows that there is a clear need for Nordic countries to focus on gender issues in Blue Economy agendas, especially beyond a traditional focus on fisheries. There are opportunities to learn from individual country contexts where gender research has been more rich and active, e.g., Norway and Iceland, and a pressing lack to strengthen gender research in e.g., Sweden, Finland, and Denmark. Consequently, since the Blue Economy highlights the great potential of an ocean economy that boosts employment, gender research in blue sectors needs to be increased and receive sustained support to ensure inclusiveness and equality across Nordic and Arctic regions.

Book Synopsis Flexible work arrangements: The Nordic Gender Effect at Work by : NIKK, Nordic Information on Gender
Download or read book Flexible work arrangements: The Nordic Gender Effect at Work written by NIKK, Nordic Information on Gender and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2018-08-20 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Promoting gender equality at work is not only a matter of rights; it is the smart thing to do from the perspective of inclusive growth. The Nordic region is a case in point, as it has come to represent the 11th largest economy in the world, not despite policy commitments to gender equality and social justice, but because of it. The Nordic countries have robust economies and good living conditions, where both women and men have high labour force participation rates. However, the gender pay gap is persistent and occupational segregation continues to hinder gender equality. The Nordic Gender Effect at Work briefs share the collective Nordic experience in investing in gender equality including parental leave, childcare, flexible work arrangements, leadership and equal opportunities at work, and seek to make further progress through cooperation.
Book Synopsis How climate policies impact gender and vice versa in the Nordic countries by : Lander Svendsen, Nina
Download or read book How climate policies impact gender and vice versa in the Nordic countries written by Lander Svendsen, Nina and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2022-01-24 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2022-507/ The Nordic countries have a progressive gender policy, and requirements to ensure gender equality and balance are laid down in laws and national strategies. However, the knowledge on the links between gender and climate change has been lacking documentation and has not been shared with relevant Nordic stakeholders and policy makers. The report seeks to close this knowledge gap. It provides a comprehensive understanding of how climate change policies affect gender and vice versa, and it is clear evidence of the importance of- and need to engage women and minorities in climate policy making. This is an important step towards implementing a climate change policy without negative effects on gender. The study gives an overview of existing and lacking sex-disaggregated data as well as a status regarding gender equality in decision-making related to climate policy in the Nordic countries.

Book Synopsis Gender Equality and Nation Branding in the Nordic Region by : Eirinn Larsen
Download or read book Gender Equality and Nation Branding in the Nordic Region written by Eirinn Larsen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-05-25 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how gender equality, a central part of the Nordic imaginary, is used in the political communication of Nordic states. The analyses presented move beyond conventional images and discourses of Nordic gender- and women-friendliness by critically investigating how and to what extent gender equality serves nation-branding in the Nordic region. Nation-branding is an unescapable part of globalisation, which is a market-oriented process dominated by the West and predicated on the creation of winners and losers. Hence, efforts to strengthen the national brand or reputation of specific Nordic countries with the aid of gender equality as a political and symbolic value inevitably help to reinforce already established global hierarchies where the Nordics play the role of moral superpower. This book comprises scholars from various fields of specialisation, and provides evidence and understanding for the growing interaction between gender-equality policies and nation-branding in all five Nordic countries. It does so by exploring a variety of policy fields and issues including women’s rights, foreign policy, rape and legislation, female quotas and business policies, in addition to the index industry. The rise of the global indexes has reproduced forceful images of the Nordic countries as frontrunners of gender equality, which indeed help the Nordic countries to further position themselves as ‘best at being good’. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars of Nordic gender equality in political science, sociology, law, criminology, political psychology and history, as well as those interested in nation branding, Nordic studies and exceptionalism. Book Synopsis Is the Last Mile the Longest? Economic Gains from Gender Equality in Nordic Countries by :
Download or read book Is the Last Mile the Longest? Economic Gains from Gender Equality in Nordic Countries written by and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, commonly known as the Nordic countries, have been leaders in the development of modern family and gender policy, and the explicit promotion of gender equality at home, at work, and in public life. Today, on many measures, they boast some of the most gender-equal labour markets in the OECD. This report shows that improvements in gender equality have contributed considerably to economic growth in the Nordic countries. Increases in female employment alone are estimated to account for anywhere between roughly 0.05 and 0.40 percentage points to average annual GDP per capita growth - equivalent to 3 to 20% of total GDP per capita growth over the past 50 years or so, depending on the country. The Nordic countries are closer than most to achieving gender equality in the labour market. But the last mile may well prove to be the longest one. To make further progress, a continued assessment of the effectiveness of existing public policies and workplace practices is needed. Only with resolve and a continued focus can Nordic countries ensure that men and women contribute to their economies and societies in gender equal measure.
Book Synopsis Gender equality and welfare politics in Scandinavia by : Melby, Kari
Download or read book Gender equality and welfare politics in Scandinavia written by Melby, Kari and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2009-05-05 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gender equality is often seen as a hallmark of the Nordic countries. This book explores this notion by examining the meanings of gender that underpin policies in the Scandinavian welfare states, historically and today. The book focuses on three Scandinavian countries - Denmark, Norway and Sweden - and explores the policy reforms that have occurred relating to family and care. Beginning with the radical marriage reform carried through in all the three countries in the early decades of the 20th century, the book progresses to explore contemporary challenges to the traditional model of equality, including equal rights for fathers, multiculturalism and a critical young generation. The book focuses on differences as well as similarities between the countries and discusses the relevance of talking about a Nordic model. Stressing the importance of viewing the concept of equality in its historical context, the book critically investigates and discusses the Scandinavian 'success story' portrayed in normative political theory and presents an historical analysis of the development of gendered citizenship rights. It will be a valuable collection for researchers, lecturers and graduate students who work with historical and contemporary studies on welfare state and gender models from different disciplinary or interdisciplinary perspectives.
