Les propositions des rapporteurs sont les suivantes : – augmenter, dans les écoles d’officiers, la proportion de places offertes aux étudiants ayant déjà accompli un premier parcours universitaire ; – encourager les grandes écoles militaires à décloisonner leurs cursus pour tendre vers des modèles d’écoles uniques, assorties d’un insigne commun ; – augmenter la proportion d’élèves-officiers effectuant un semestre de scolarité dans un autre établissement d’enseignement supérieur et accueillir, dans le même temps, une plus grande proportion d’étudiants issus de ces établissements ; – augmenter la proportion d’élèves-officiers effectuant un semestre de scolarité dans une académie militaire étrangère et accueillir, dans le même temps, une plus grande proportion de cadets issus de ces établissements ; – encourager les écoles militaires à adopter un statut d’établissement public à caractère scientifique, culturel et professionnel (EPSCP) ; – favoriser la création, dans chacune des armées, d’écoles à destination des élèves en situation d’échec scolaire, en y consacrant des moyens spécifiques ; – doter au plus vite les armées d’un outil complet de connaissance des coûts de l’appareil de formation ; – définir une méthodologie, commune aux trois armées, permettant de préparer et de développer des partenariats de formation avec les industriels ; – amplifier la féminisation des effectifs des cadres des écoles et des centres de recrutement pour promouvoir la mixité des choix de carrière des femmes.

The author draws on life history interviews with young adults of North African immigrant background, enrolled at or having recently graduated from the country’s elite higher education institutions, the grandes écoles, to delve into largely under-researched pathways and give a voice to high-achieving members of a population that continues to be collectively associated with difficulties to ‘integrate’. The volume constitutes the first sociological study to document, from the individual actor’s perspective, the everyday experience of racism within France’s elite educational institutions and to reveal the upward mobility experience to be informed by the interlocking effects of racial processes, immigrant ancestry, class background, and gender. Challenging the pervasive representation of descendants of North African immigrants as ‘unsuccessful’ and ‘unable to integrate’, this book sheds light on the experiences of the largely silent upwardly mobile members of a stigmatized minority group, revealing the strategies used to respond to the constraints to their mobility and the importance of familial histories of post-colonial migration, characterized by the former generation’s efforts, sacrifices, and resilience, in informing these ‘success stories’.

This report is meant to support Cameroon s efforts to build the skills of its workers. This report reaches conclusions and offers policy recommendations to answer six questions: What has been the trajectory of Cameroon s economic growth? Which sectors have contributed to growth? What jobs are being created? What types of skills are being used in the sectors where the highest percentages of the population are employed? What are the demand and supply barriers to skills? Which policies and institutions are in play? Are they sufficient? What needs to or could be reformed? Cameroon has good prospects for moving to middle-income status. To what extent did the bachelor students gained international experiences during or after their study program? What is the proportion of bachelor degree holders who are employed about one year after graduation? What are the labor market experiences of those bachelor graduates who started to work? Was it difficult to gain relevant employment? What are the employment conditions for bachelor graduates in terms of income, position, working time, unlimited term contracts compared to traditional graduates? To what extent are bachelor graduates working in areas with close relation to their field of study (horizontal match)? Is their level of education needed for their work tasks (vertical match)? These are the key questions which will be answered in this volume based on surveys of graduates from institutions of higher education recently undertaken in ten European countries (Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, and United Kingdom). The bachelor-master-structure actually implemented varies substantially between the countries and also the consequences of these reforms differ strikingly. In some countries, more students spend a period of study abroad than the goal set for the year 2020 in the Bologna Process; in other countries, not yet a quarter of the expected rate is achieved. Also the frequency of bachelor graduates differs by country who opt for further study, transfer to employment or are both employed and students. The comparative study also provides a wealth of information about the employment and work situation of bachelor graduates as compared to other graduates from institutions of higher education. The book provides relevant information for students and teaching staff at institutions of higher education, employers and politicians and administrative staff dealing with higher education issues.
