Book Synopsis The Miralles Projection by : Javier Fernández Contreras
Download or read book The Miralles Projection written by Javier Fernández Contreras and published by ORO Applied Research + Design. This book was released on 2020-07 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains both the origin and evolution of Miralles' system of representation, from his time as a student at the Barcelona School of Architecture to the latest projects he designed with Benedetta Tagliabue, including the heroic period with Carme Pinós. With previously unpublished drawings from the architect, it demonstrates on a fundamental level how the evolution of representation runs parallel to that of architecture, thus illustrating its indissolubility and mutual interdependence. It is impossible to dissociate the evolution of the architecture of Enric Miralles from the development of his own system of representation. Beginning from a position inherited from his training at the Barcelona School of Architecture and his practice at the office of Viaplana-Piñón, where he acquired a liking for precision in drafting and a graphic style based exclusively on lines of the same thickness, Miralles soon developed a method defined by a customised use of orthographic projections, connected to a fragmented conception of the architectural plan and space itself.

Book Synopsis The New Structuralism by : Rivka Oxman
Download or read book The New Structuralism written by Rivka Oxman and published by Academy Press. This book was released on 2010-08-23 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today the convergence of design, engineering and architectural technologies is breeding a new material practice in experimental architecture. The significant emphasis on the structuring logic of tectonics is resulting in a 'new structuralism' in design. In this pioneering publication, this important shift is fully defined as a highly dynamic synthesis of emerging principles of spatial, structural and material ordering integrated through the application of materialisation and fabrication technologies. Providing the foundations for a new theory of structuring in architecture, the new structuralism has broad implications for the way we both conceive and undertake architectural design, as its impact starts to emanate not only across education internationally, but also through architectural research and practice. Book Synopsis Old Buildings, New Forms by : Francoise Bollack
Download or read book Old Buildings, New Forms written by Francoise Bollack and published by The Monacelli Press, LLC. This book was released on 2013-11-12 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is clear that working with historic structures is both more environmentally sustainable and cost effective than new architecture and construction—and many believe that the best design occurs at the intersection of old and new. Françoise Astorg Bollack presents 28 examples gathered in the United States and throughout Europe and the Middle East. Some are well known—Mass MOCA, Market Santa Caterina in Barcelona, Neues Museum in Berlin—and others are almost anonymous. But all demonstrate a unique and appropriate solution to the problem of adapting historic structures to contemporary uses. This survey of contemporary additions to older buildings is an essential addition to the architectural literature. “I have always loved old buildings. An old building is not an obstacle but instead a foundation for continued action. Designing with them is an exhilarating enterprise; adding to them, grafting, inserting, knitting new pieces into the existing built fabric is endlessly stimulating.” —Françoise Astorg Bollack

Book excerpt: This first comprehensive survey of workplace design for the new century, this book captures emerging themes and ideas in office architecture and interiors around the world. Written and researched by the authors of The Creative Office, it advances the concept of increasing creativity in planning and design by exploring the new workplace models that are developing in response to rapid organisational, social and technological change. In the introduction the authors discuss how the new workplace of the 21st century is already exhibiting different spatial, organizational and material characteristics from the scientifically managed, process-driven, mechanistic model of the 20th century modern office. This is followed by four thematic chapters that illustrate the key new trends through 45 international case studies.
