Book excerpt: The objective of this effort was the evaluation of an airborne Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS). This device uses, as its primary control parameter, absolute height above the ground (terrain), as determined by an airborne radio (radar) altimeter. The evaluation was based on the following: (1) A review of published reports and brochures. (2) A review and analysis of available industry flight test data. (3) A review and analysis of all FAA certification tests concerning the GPWS.

This book was released on 1976 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is of interest to the USAF whether a Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) similar to the type currently in production for commercial airlines could be used in highly maneuverable aircraft such as fighters and trainers. A GPWS was installed in the Crew Station Design Facility (CSDF) FB-111 Simulator, and missions were flown over various types of terrain in both VFR and IFR conditions. Reaction data was recorded, and the subjects completed questionnaires. It was concluded that pilot acceptance was high and that a workable set of warning envelopes could probably be developed for highly maneuverable aircraft. (Author).

Book excerpt: The National Research Council of the National Academies was requested by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to perform an independent assessment of NASA's National Aviation Operations Monitoring Service (NAOMS) project, which was a survey administered to pilots from April 2001 through December 2004. The NRC reviewed various aspects of the NAOMS project, including the survey methodology, and conducted a limited analysis of the publicly available survey data. An Assessment of NASA's National Aviation Operations Monitoring Service presents the resulting analyses and findings.
