Book Synopsis Energy resources and economic development in India by : W.E. Tyner
Download or read book Energy resources and economic development in India written by W.E. Tyner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this research has been to explore the relationship between energy resource development and economic development in India. The thesis which evolved from the research is that energy resource development has lagged behind and constrained economic development in India. Inadequate attention has been paid to developing the power sector, and the petroleum sector is just beginning to be developed. This research consists of an analysis of energy supply covering each of the major energy resources. Using information from India's five year plans, the history of energy re source development was compiled by energy sector. A comprehensive eva luation ofIndia's current position with respect to energy resources was under taken to provide a perspective on future development possibilities. Alternative policy options were presented in the analysis of each energy re source. These options were considered in providing a set of overall policy suggestions for development of energy supplies in India. Dedication This volume is dedicated to my wonderful wife, Jean, who patiently endured the weeks, months and years it took to complete. No words can express my feelings for her and the sacrifices she has made, but this token gesture is the least I can do. Acknowledgements This research was done under the supervision of Professor John Adams.

Book excerpt: I am presenting this study on behalf of the millions and millions of citizens of India who eagerly are waiting to witness the transition from darkness to lightness. Many more cyber cities are the dreams of Indians. Politics Vs Economics , is the prime mover for any national development in the World. I believe every stakeholder is contributing to develop and sustain the Indian Power Sector within the limitations and restrictions of scope and availability. Policy, regulation, legislation , controls, monitoring, implementation, projects, institutions, structures, frameworks, services, finances, revenues, losses, profits, and so on are struggling to excel with infinite permutations and combinations. Research & Development (R&D) in India is not to be neglected in core sectors. R&D is a continual tool towards betterment of the complete supply chain of electricity supply. Ministry of New & Renewable Energy is taking initiatives to conduct solar training programmes. Power Consumption Vs Power Conservation, the balance can be made only by awareness , education and training programmes throughout the World. Energy is always a Global issue. Will Green Energy dominate the Power Sector in India? I believe, Learning by criticism brings in excellence. We all should thank this type of debate, discussions, brainstorming and analysis . It brings out innovations and refinement in thinking and decision making. The perception of constructive criticism should be to find avenues for strengthening the Indian Power System. I am grateful to all the analysts in the energy and power sector who have sacrificed their valuable time in researching and innovating better ways of improving the power systems in the world. I am equally indebted to the great scientists , educationists and reformists who have lived their lives to light the world. I am obliged to understand their pain in transforming the darkness of the world into lightness forever. I hope every reader should participate in saving electrical energy . This book, Energy Crisis in India, is a drive to alleviate the energy crisis. I sincerely request my readers and their associates to join me and the nation in saving energy . Finally from the bottom of my heart we will all remain indebted to the , People who Power the World..

Energy demand is increasing day by day due to increase in population and per capita income. India imports about seventy percent of its energy needs, out of which seventy two percent comes from the Persian Gulf. However, this region is volatile. Therefore India is diversifying its energy supply. This book tries to evaluate the importance of Persian Gulf in spite of diversification. It also analyses the changing dynamics of India's energy security like inherit desire of energy cooperation with big competitor like China, playing active role in International Energy Organisations, enhancing energy efficiency and promoting renewable energy to combat the growing concern of climate change.

Book excerpt: Nuclear power has been held out as possibly the most important source of energy for India. And the dream of a nuclear-powered India has been supported by huge financial budgets and high-level political commitment for over six decades. Nuclear power has also been presented as safe, environmentally benign and cheap. Physicist and writer M.V. Ramana offers a detailed narrative of the evolution of India’s nuclear energy programme, examining different aspects of it and the claims of success made on its behalf. In The Power of Promise he makes a historically nuanced and compelling argument as to why the nuclear energy programme has failed in the past and why its future is dubious. Ramana shows that nuclear power has been more expensive than conventional forms of electricity generation, that the ever-present risk of catastrophic accidents is heightened by observed organizational inadequacies at nuclear facilities, and that existing nuclear fuel cycle facilities have been correlated with impacts on public health and the environment. He offers detailed information and analysis that should serve to deepen the debate on whether India should indeed embark on a massive nuclear programme.

Download or read book TERI Energy and Environment Data Diary and Yearbook (TEDDY) 2014/15 written by The Energy & Resources Institute (TERI) and published by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). This book was released on 2015-03-30 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TERI Energy and Environment Data Diary and Yearbook (TEDDY) is an annual publication brought out by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) since 1986. It is the only comprehensive energy and environment yearbook in India which provides updated information on the energy supply sectors (coal and lignite, petroleum and natural gas, power, and renewable energy sources), energy demand sectors (agriculture, industry, transport, residential, and commercial sectors), and environment (local and global). It also provides a review of the government policies that have implications on energy and environment in India. Each edition of TEDDY contains India's commercial energy balances for the last four years that provide comprehensive information on energy flows within different sectors of the economy and how they have been changing over time. These energy balances and conversion factors are a valuable reference for researchers, scholars, and organizations working on energy and related sectors. After the introductory chapters, TEDDY has been divided into sections on energy supply, energy demand, and local and global environment. The twenty-ninth edition of the publication, TEDDY 2014/15, comes with several interesting features. The Green Focus at the end of each chapter highlights sustainable initiatives and successful practices. The publication also features a section with a discussion around sustainable development goals and tracking framework for sustainable energy goals at global, national, and sub-national levels. Graphs, maps, and tables have been used in all chapters to explain facts, which make the book an interesting read. In addition, detailed tables at the end of each chapter represent statistical data on energy and environment. The publication is accompanied by a complimentary CD containing full text. The publication is cited in international peer-reviewed journals and policy documents.
