Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last several years, manufacturers have expressed increasing interest in reducing their energy consumption and have begun to search for opportunities to reduce their energy usage. In this book, the authors explore a variety of opportunities to reduce the energy footprint of manufacturing. These opportunities cover the entire spatial scale of the manufacturing enterprise: from unit process-oriented approaches to enterprise-level strategies. Each chapter examines some aspect of this spatial scale, and discusses and describes the opportunities that exist at that level. Case studies demonstrate how the opportunity may be acted on with practical guidance on how to respond to these opportunities.

Book Synopsis Environmental Policy and Industrial Innovation by : David Wallace
Download or read book Environmental Policy and Industrial Innovation written by David Wallace and published by Earthscan. This book was released on 1995 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can policy-makers pursue environmental goals while simultaneously keeping the burdens on industry to a minimum? Why does innovation play the key role in this balancing act, and what are the implications for the development of sustainable industrial societies? This book examines the evolution of environmental policy in 6 OECD countries. Through numerous examples, it contrasts the widely-varying political and regulatory styles and their consequences for innovation. Two industry-specific case studies provide a transnational perspective on the co-evolution of technology and environmental policy. The book concludes that innovation can be successfully harnessed by setting credible, long-term environmental goals and ensuring that regulatory instruments are grounded in flexibility, dialogue and trust.

Book Synopsis Energy Efficiency Financing and Market-Based Instruments by : Yang Liu
Download or read book Energy Efficiency Financing and Market-Based Instruments written by Yang Liu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-21 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to investigating the policy design and effectiveness of financial and market-based instruments to promote energy efficiency financing. The concept of this monograph is to present the latest results related to energy efficiency funding schemes, energy efficiency obligations, voluntary agreements, auction mechanisms, and Super Energy Services Companies (Super ESCOs) in major jurisdictions across the world. The book focuses on financial and market-based instruments as they deliver a price signal, which provides an incentive for firms to invest in innovation or implement more energy-efficient technologies and deliver energy savings while minimizing costs. Such instruments can have significant advantages for the government, supporting the fiscal sustainability of the government’s energy efficiency efforts, requiring less enforcement than regulation and according the market flexibility to select the most cost-efficient technologies. This book is highly recommended to researchers, policy experts, and business specialists who seek an in-depth and up-to-date integrated overview of energy efficiency financing.
Book Synopsis Innovation and Technology Transfer in Japan and Europe by : Glyn O. Phillips
Download or read book Innovation and Technology Transfer in Japan and Europe written by Glyn O. Phillips and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-26 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1989, compares, contrasts and evaluates the nature, scale and direction of industry-academic interactions in Britain and Japan: the conversion of academic discoveries into practical products. Japan shows its outstanding ability to translate scientific ideas into high technology products. Within this wider investigation, detailed consideration is given to the manner in which these interactions promote innovation and technology transfer. The information in this study provides a perspective against which decisions can be made about industry-education interaction arrangements, and much of this information is largely unavailable outside Japan.
Book Synopsis Potential for Industrial Energy-Efficiency Improvement in the Long Term by : J. de Beer
Download or read book Potential for Industrial Energy-Efficiency Improvement in the Long Term written by J. de Beer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-05-31 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We need to know what opportunities there are and what limits exist to the improvement of energy efficiency, since this is the most cost-effective way to abate greenhouse gas emissions. This book presents a method whereby promising technologies can be identified and characterised that can contribute to an improvement of energy efficiency in the long term. An objective measurement of maximum improvement is provided by an analysis of the theoretical minimum specific energy demand. A descriptive inventory is then given of new and conceivable technologies that can improve efficiency, extending beyond the standard lists found in the literature. The method is applied to three main energy consuming branches of industry: paper and board, iron and steel, and nitrogen fertilizer. Each of the studies provides an in-depth analysis of the industry and an extensive survey of options for its improvement.
