Book excerpt: Energy efficiency is high on the political agenda as governments seek to reduce wasteful energy consumption, strengthen energy security and cut greenhouse gas emissions. However, the lack of data for developing proper indicators to measure energy efficiency often prevents countries from transforming declarations into actions. This manual identifies the main sectoral indicators and the data needed to develop these indicators; and to make surveying, metering and modeling practices existing all around the world available to all. It has been developed with a companion document, Energy Efficiency Indicators: Essentials for Policy Making, as a starting point towards enabling policymakers to understand where greater efficiency is needed, to implement appropriate policies and to measure their impact.

Book Synopsis Energy Efficiency by : Daniel M. Martinez
Download or read book Energy Efficiency written by Daniel M. Martinez and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2019-05-09 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy Efficiency: Concepts and Calculations is the first book of its kind to provide an applied, systems oriented description of energy intensity and efficiency in modern economies across the entire energy chain. With an emphasis on analysis, specifically energy flow analysis, lifecycle energy accounting, economic analysis, technology evaluation, and policies/strategies for adopting high energy efficiency standards, the book provides a comprehensive understanding of the concepts, tools and methodologies for studying and modeling macro-level energy flows through, and within, key economic sectors (electric power, industrial, commercial, residential and transportation). Providing a technical discussion of the application of common methodologies (e.g. cost-benefit analysis and lifecycle assessment), each chapter contains figures, charts and examples from each sector, including the policies that have been put in place to promote and incentivize the adoption of energy efficient technologies. Contains models and tools to analyze each stage at the macro-level by tracking energy consumption and how the resulting data might change energy use Includes accessible references and a glossary of common terms at the end of each chapter Provides diagnostic figures, tables and schematics within the context of local, regional and national energy consumption and utilization

Book excerpt: This statistical report is designed to help understand what drives final energy use in IEA member countries in order to improve and track national energy efficiency policies. It provides the first comprehensive selection of data that the IEA has been collecting each year after its member states recognised in 2009 the need to better monitor energy efficiency policies. The report includes country-specific analysis of end uses across the largest sectors - residential, services, industry and transport. It answers questions such as: - What are the largest drivers for energy use trends in each country? - Was energy saved because of efficiency progress over time? - How much energy is used for space heating, appliances or cooking? - What are the most energy-intensive industries? Improving energy efficiency is a critical step for governments to take to move towards a sustainable energy system. This report highlights the key role of end-use energy data and indicators in monitoring progress in energy efficiency around the world.
Book Synopsis Energy Conservation Indicators II by : Tihomir Morovic
Download or read book Energy Conservation Indicators II written by Tihomir Morovic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy Conservation Indicators is a methodology to break down energy consumption data into their component parts in the same way as those which are due to annual weather fluctuations, business cycle, structural changes in the economy and higher energy efficiency. This methodology is applied for the first time to all twelve Member Countries of the European Communities for the period 1979 to 1985. It represents a tool for a long-term monitoring of the efforts towards the goal set by the Council of Ministers of the European Community to achieve a 20% improvement in intensity of final energy demand between 1985 and 1995. In addition, it is used by the Commission of the European Communities for considerations regarding energy conservation policies for the Community. The results of the analysis performed showed that the goal set by the Council cannot be reached if the current trends prevail in the years to come. The reasons are the declining impact of structural changes towards less energy-intensive production and the increasing level of energy-consuming comfort in the residential and private transportation sectors.

Book Synopsis Energy Efficiency Trends in Canada by :
Download or read book Energy Efficiency Trends in Canada written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examines recent trends in end-use energy consumption in Canada, identifying and analysing the factors that have caused changes in the demand for energy. Also develops indicators of energy efficiency improvements, using a factorisation method to determine the contribution of energy efficiency to changes in end-use (secondary) energy use. Such a method allows an assessment of the underlying changes in energy intensity for each end-use sector and permits distinguishing the effect of changes in energy intensity on energy use from changes in economic growth and changes in the mix of energy-using products or activities. Economy-wide trends are described first, followed by sections on energy efficiency trends in the residential, commercial, industrial, and transportation sector. The final section analyses factors influencing growth in energy use in each sector 1990-94. Appendices include a description of the methodology and data sources for the factorisation analysis, as well as a glossary.

Download or read book Glocalized Solutions for Sustainability in Manufacturing written by Jürgen Hesselbach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-19 with total page 699 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 18th CIRP International Conference on Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) 2011 continues a long tradition of scientific meetings focusing on the exchange of industrial and academic knowledge and experiences in life cycle assessment, product development, sustainable manufacturing and end-of-life-management. The theme “Glocalized Solutions for Sustainability in Manufacturing” addresses the need for engineers to develop solutions which have the potential to address global challenges by providing products, services and processes taking into account local capabilities and constraints to achieve an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable society in a global perspective. Glocalized Solutions for Sustainability in Manufacturing do not only involve products or services that are changed for a local market by simple substitution or the omitting of functions. Products and services need to be addressed that ensure a high standard of living everywhere. Resources required for manufacturing and use of such products are limited and not evenly distributed in the world. Locally available resources, local capabilities as well as local constraints have to be drivers for product- and process innovations with respect to the entire life cycle. The 18th CIRP International Conference on Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) 2011 serves as a platform for the discussion of the resulting challenges and the collaborative development of new scientific ideas.

Book Synopsis Energy Efficiency Indicators by : IEA.
Download or read book Energy Efficiency Indicators written by IEA. and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy efficiency is widely recognised as the most cost-effective and readily available means to address numerous energy-related issues, including energy security, the social and economic impacts of high energy prices, and concerns about climate change. At the same time, energy efficiency increases competitiveness and promotes consumer welfare. In this context, it is important to develop and maintain well-founded indicators to better inform policy making and help decision makers formulate policies that are best suited to domestic and/or international objectives. This publication enables energy analysts and policy makers to identify priority areas for the development of energy efficiency indicators, define which sector(s) offer the greatest potential to further improve energy efficiency, select the data and indicators that best support policy development in these sectors, and develop a strategy to advance policy development through the improved use of indicators to track progress of energy efficiency policies.
