This has resulted in the migration of people from one region of the world to another in search of greener pastures. In the past three decades, Europe has seen people migrating from its Eastern to the Western part while Africa has lost so many of her bright scholars and potential citizens through migration to Europe even through unorthodox means such as through the Mediterranean Sea and savannah deserts in search of greener pastures. This paper investigated the past Nigerian government's interventional efforts and attempts at addressing the hydra headed problems of unemployment in the country and their effectiveness at encouraging the sense entrepreneurship in the country with a view to facilitating job creation for the teaming Nigerians job seekers. The study relied on secondary data by way of existing literatures for this study while the results of the findings are presented with the aid of frequency tables. The finding from the study revealed that several intervention programmes introduced by successive governments in the country had failed to produce the expected results. Findings further indicated a plethora of bottlenecks which are principally hinged on corruptions, bureaucratic bottleneck vis-avis inconsistencies in government policies, political instability and lack of entrepreneurial skill by majority of unemployed Nigerians. The study recommended combined hard work on the part of the government to the development of entrepreneurship by providing an enabling environment and infrastructures coupled with the introduction of relevant entrepreneurial educational programmes in all institutions of learning be tailored towards development of entrepreneurial skills while start up loans should be made available without interests.

A large number of youth in rural and semi-urban Kerala could not access high professional education and employment due to financial constraint and their high orientation towards white colour jobs. The theory of development by Schumpeter highlighted the significant role played by entrepreneurs and their innovative and imperative role in the development process of the economy. Absence of credit, poor infrastructure, socio-economic backwardness due to some religious and cultural taboos and customs especially on women and marginal section etc acts as a barrier to the natural growth of entrepreneurship in India and Kerala. Both Central and State government initiated a number of programmes to foster entrepreneurial development. In 1982, an innovative initiative was taken by Sri. Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara Educational trust, Syndicate bank and Canara bank finally resulted in the setting up of a very well appreciated RUDSETI model in India to tackle unemployment issues in rural area by providing credit accessibility and skill development programmes for entrepreneurial development for the socially disadvantaged people mainly belongs to SC, ST, BPL and women. The present study is to analyse the organisational structure and functioning of RUDSETI of Kerala situated in Taliparamba and also to evaluate various Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDP) offered by the institute.

Among others, it was recommended to incorporate entrepreneurship in our school curriculum where vocational subjects would become compulsory right from Upper Basic Education level through tertiary education level to train, prepare, and develop the economic mindset of the younger generations and decrease the high level of unemployment.

Book excerpt: The business environment in South Africa (SA) is characterised by limited resources, high uncertainty and stiff competition which have contributed to the high level of unemployment in the country. The economy is generating few jobs. Across different spheres of society 0́3 academia, industry and government 0́3 emphasis is being placed on entrepreneurship and small businesses as drivers of economic growth and employment creation. Scholars of entrepreneurship have used entrepreneurial orientation (EO) widely to delineate firm-level entrepreneurial behaviour and intensity using the uni-dimensional and multi-dimensional conceptualisation. EO as a consolidated construct is confirmed to have a relationship with the performance of businesses. However, business performance does not translate into business growth nor is it the same as employment growth. It appears that the association between EO and employment growth has attracted less attention in research despite its importance to theory and practice. In addition, studies on the antecedents of EO 0́3 such as its relationship with task environment variables and its consequences on employment growth 0́3 are limited in SA. Hence this study examines the nexus between the environment, the sub-dimensions of EO and employment growth. It hypothesises relationships between two environmental variables: dynamism and hostility and five dimensions of EO: innovativeness, pro-activeness, risk-taking, competitive aggressiveness and autonomy. Similarly, it tests the relationships between these dimensions and employment growth; directly and as moderated by environmental dynamism and hostility. To a greater extent, it considers established SMMEs that have transited through the survival phase into the growth phase of business operation. Using a survey method, data is collected from small business across SA from which 1031 SMMEs were considered for statistical analysis and this entailed the use of descriptive techniques that measures central tendencies and inferential techniques such as correlation analysis factor analysis, regression analysis and partial-least-square structural equation modelling and graphical illustration with use of pie charts and bar charts. The sample consists of service and non-service sector businesses but professional and consulting services constitute close to a third of the sample. Findings from this study reveal that SMMEs in SA display a moderate to high EO and only four of its dimensions (proactive-innovation, risk-taking, competitive aggressiveness and autonomy) were visible statistically. Statistically significant relationships were found between environmental hostility and dynamism and the dimensions of EO for the entire sample. The relationships between the dimensions of EO and employment growth were statistically insignificant except for medium-sized businesses (MSBs) in which proactive-innovation and competitive aggressiveness indicated a statistically significant negative relationship with employment growth. In conclusion, this study contributes to the understanding of EO as a construct given that it considers the environment as its antecedent. It lays emphasis on the multi-variate relationships between environmental hostility, environmental dynamism, and each of the dimensions of EO. From a methodological perspective, this study employs an objective approach to measuring employment growth using Gibrat0́9s law. It demystifies the complex relationships between the business environment and the dimensions of EO and concomitantly sheds light on employment growth. It amplifies the role of the environment in small business development and identifies the dimensions of EO that could deemed relevant to employment generation. Finally, it advocates the need for context-specific entrepreneurial strategies to develop components of the SMME cohort and effective promotion of job creation.

Although there has been significant research so far into the success and failure of clusters, the implications of these multiple research efforts fail to provide political decision-makers and company managers with critical information about which mechanisms lie behind cluster success and also about how clusters survive and prosper. The innovative approaches presented in this book on entrepreneurship, human capital mobility and regional development have considerable potential to create new and original implications for decision-makers and managers. In terms of value added, this book contributes to the literature by seeking answers to the following questions: (i) Is the growth and success of clusters over time due to concentration and transmission of business competences through spin-offs located in a given regional space? Seminal contributions were made by Schumpeter (1934), Knight (1921) and Kirzner (1973). These economists stress different aspects of the role of the entrepreneur. While Schumpeter stresses the innovating aspect, Knight stresses the risk assuming aspect. Kirzner, finally, stresses the role of the entrepreneur in leading markets to equilibrium. Acs (1992) discusses the contribution of small firms in modern economies.
