This book was released on 2024-12-02 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whilst women-owned businesses have a significant positive impact on poverty reduction and social exclusion, we know far too little about women’s entrepreneurship in an emerging economy context. This handbook aims to fill that void by giving voice to women entrepreneurs who are far too often overlooked or even invisible. The chapters offer varied perspectives on the challenges that women entrepreneurs in emerging markets experience, foremost among these the lack of resources, education, and access to finance, as well as gender-related inequalities, and the impact of social expectations. The handbook portrays how, despite these challenges, women use creative and work-around strategies to access resources, build networks and grow their businesses. De Gruyter Handbook of Women Entrepreneurs in Emerging Economies brings together contributions from leading experts in the field and is a must-read for academic scholars and postgraduate students interested in gender and entrepreneurship diversity.

Book excerpt: In the tradition of Octavia Butler, here is radical self-help, society-help, and planet-help to shape the futures we want. Change is constant. The world, our bodies, and our minds are in a constant state of flux. They are a stream of ever-mutating, emergent patterns. Rather than steel ourselves against such change, Emergent Strategy teaches us to map and assess the swirling structures and to read them as they happen, all the better to shape that which ultimately shapes us, personally and politically. A resolutely materialist spirituality based equally on science and science fiction: a wild feminist and afro-futurist ride! adrienne maree brown, co-editor of Octavia’s Brood: Science Fiction from Social Justice Movements, is a social justice facilitator, healer, and doula living in Detroit.

Download or read book Dilemmas and Challenges in Islamic Finance written by Yasushi Suzuki and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-09 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenal growth of Islamic finance in the last few decades has been accompanied by a host of interesting questions and challenges. One of the critical challenges is how Islamic financial institutions can be motivated to participate in the 'equity-like' profit-and-loss sharing (PLS) contracts. It is observed that Islamic banks are reluctant to participate in the pure PLS scheme which is manifested by the rising concentration of investment on murabaha or mark-up financing. This phenomenon has been the hotbed of academic criticism on the contemporary practice of Islamic banking. This book explains the 'murabaha syndrome' in light of the incentive provided by the current institutional framework and what are the changes required in the governance structure to mend this anomaly.
