Book excerpt: What begins as an unexpected 3:34 a.m. wake-up call from a long-forgotten high school acquaintance ends with Mike Thompson behind bars-and smack in the middle of an international conspiracy. Mike agrees to meet up with the desperate-sounding Conrad Nash, who shares with him a series of mysterious e-mails that look to have originated in 1966. But back in '66, the Internet and e-mail communication as we know it would not exist for another twenty-plus years. Stranger still, the e-mails appear to have been sent by Vincent Hopper, their former high school teacher who has been dead for nearly two decades. Eager to break the monotony of his daily grind, and plenty willing to accept the cash that the paranoid Conrad offers for his confidence and assistance, Mike begins an investigation that leads him through a trail of riddles, lies, and deceit and reveals scandals that test his marriage and threaten a worldwide holocaust. Dark secrets behind the creation of the World Wide Web link to the Cold War and through to today's War on Terror in this provocative suspense thriller which confirms that, indeed, the things one does today leads to the things one inherits tomorrow.

Book Synopsis Human Dimensions of Cybersecurity by : Terry Bossomaier
Download or read book Human Dimensions of Cybersecurity written by Terry Bossomaier and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-11-07 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In Human Dimensions of Cyber Security, Terry Bossomaier, Steven D’Alessandro, and Roger Bradbury have produced a book that ... shows how it is indeed possible to achieve what we all need; a multidisciplinary, rigorously researched and argued, and above all accessible account of cybersecurity — what it is, why it matters, and how to do it." --Professor Paul Cornish, Visiting Professor, LSE IDEAS, London School of Economics Human Dimensions of Cybersecurity explores social science influences on cybersecurity. It demonstrates how social science perspectives can enable the ability to see many hazards in cybersecurity. It emphasizes the need for a multidisciplinary approach, as cybersecurity has become a fundamental issue of risk management for individuals, at work, and with government and nation states. This book explains the issues of cybersecurity with rigor, but also in simple language, so individuals can see how they can address these issues and risks. The book provides simple suggestions, or cybernuggets, that individuals can follow to learn the dos and don’ts of cybersecurity. The book also identifies the most important human and social factors that affect cybersecurity. It illustrates each factor, using case studies, and examines possible solutions from both technical and human acceptability viewpoints.
