Book Synopsis Process Modelling and Simulation with Finite Element Methods by : William B. J. Zimmerman
Download or read book Process Modelling and Simulation with Finite Element Methods written by William B. J. Zimmerman and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic description and case studies of chemical engineering modelling and simulation based on the MATLAB/FEMLAB tools, in support of selected topics in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that require numerical solution of complex balance equations (ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, nonlinear equations, integro-differential equations). These systems arise naturally in analysis of transport phenomena, process systems, chemical reactions and chemical thermodynamics, and particle rate processes. Templates are given for modelling both state-of-the-art research topics (e.g. microfluidic networks, film drying, multiphase flow, population balance equations) and case studies of commonplace design calculations -- mixed phase reactor design, heat transfer, flowsheet analysis of unit operations, flash distillations, etc. The great strength of this book is that it makes modelling and simulating in the MATLAB/FEMLAB environment approachable to both the novice and the expert modeller.
Book Synopsis Elements of Numerical Analysis by : Radhey S. Gupta
Download or read book Elements of Numerical Analysis written by Radhey S. Gupta and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-05-14 with total page 778 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical analysis deals with the manipulation of numbers to solve a particular problem. This book discusses in detail the creation, analysis and implementation of algorithms to solve the problems of continuous mathematics. An input is provided in the form of numerical data or it is generated as required by the system to solve a mathematical problem. Subsequently, this input is processed through arithmetic operations together with logical operations in a systematic manner and an output is produced in the form of numbers. Covering the fundamentals of numerical analysis and its applications in one volume, this book offers detailed discussion on relevant topics including difference equations, Fourier series, discrete Fourier transforms and finite element methods. In addition, the important concepts of integral equations, Chebyshev Approximation and Eigen Values of Symmetric Matrices are elaborated upon in separate chapters. The book will serve as a suitable textbook for undergraduate students in science and engineering.
Book Synopsis Advanced Mathematical Tools In Metrology - Proceedings Of The International Workshop by : Nicola Bellomo
Download or read book Advanced Mathematical Tools In Metrology - Proceedings Of The International Workshop written by Nicola Bellomo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-05-18 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume will interest researchers and others involved with high-precision measurements and the development of mathematical tools for this purpose. Advances in metrology depend on improvements in scientific and technical knowledge, the quality of instruments, a better use of advanced mathematical tools and the development of new ones.A tradition of close cooperation between metrologists and mathematicians, while found elsewhere, is lacking in Italy. This workshop wishes to start such a cooperation by providing a common meeting ground. Several industrial sectors, particularly those of instrumentation and software, are likely to benefit from this process, since metrology has a high impact on the overall quality of industrial products and applied mathematics is becoming increasingly important in industrial processes.

Book Synopsis Multiphysics Modeling with Finite Element Methods by : William B J Zimmerman
Download or read book Multiphysics Modeling with Finite Element Methods written by William B J Zimmerman and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2006-10-25 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finite element methods for approximating partial differential equations that arise in science and engineering analysis find widespread application. Numerical analysis tools make the solutions of coupled physics, mechanics, chemistry, and even biology accessible to the novice modeler. Nevertheless, modelers must be aware of the limitations and difficulties in developing numerical models that faithfully represent the system they are modeling. This textbook introduces the intellectual framework for modeling with Comsol Multiphysics, a package which has unique features in representing multiply linked domains with complex geometry, highly coupled and nonlinear equation systems, and arbitrarily complicated boundary, auxiliary, and initial conditions. But with this modeling power comes great opportunities and great perils. Progressively, in the first part of the book the novice modeler develops an understanding of how to build up complicated models piecemeal and test them modularly. The second part of the book introduces advanced analysis techniques. The final part of the book deals with case studies in a broad range of application areas including nonlinear pattern formation, thin film dynamics and heterogeneous catalysis, composite and effective media for heat, mass, conductivity, and dispersion, population balances, tomography, multiphase flow, electrokinetic, microfluidic networks, plasma dynamics, and corrosion chemistry. As a revision of Process Modeling and Simulation with Finite Element Methods, this book uses the very latest features of Comsol Multiphysics. There are new case studies on multiphase flow with phase change, plasma dynamics, electromagnetohydrodynamics, microfluidic mixing, and corrosion. In addition, major improvements to the level set method for multiphase flow to ensure phase conservation is introduced. More information about COMSOL can be found here.

Download or read book Numerical Analysis written by Ian Jacques and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is primarily intended for undergraduates in mathematics, the physical sciences and engineering. It introduces students to most of the techniques forming the core component of courses in numerical analysis. The text is divided into eight chapters which are largely self-contained. However, with a subject as intricately woven as mathematics, there is inevitably some interdependence between them. The level of difficulty varies and, although emphasis is firmly placed on the methods themselves rather than their analysis, we have not hesitated to include theoretical material when we consider it to be sufficiently interesting. However, it should be possible to omit those parts that do seem daunting while still being able to follow the worked examples and to tackle the exercises accompanying each section. Familiarity with the basic results of analysis and linear algebra is assumed since these are normally taught in first courses on mathematical methods. For reference purposes a list of theorems used in the text is given in the appendix.
Book Synopsis Numerical Analysis by : Larkin Ridgway Scott
Download or read book Numerical Analysis written by Larkin Ridgway Scott and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2011-04-18 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational science is fundamentally changing how technological questions are addressed. The design of aircraft, automobiles, and even racing sailboats is now done by computational simulation. The mathematical foundation of this new approach is numerical analysis, which studies algorithms for computing expressions defined with real numbers. Emphasizing the theory behind the computation, this book provides a rigorous and self-contained introduction to numerical analysis and presents the advanced mathematics that underpin industrial software, including complete details that are missing from most textbooks. Using an inquiry-based learning approach, Numerical Analysis is written in a narrative style, provides historical background, and includes many of the proofs and technical details in exercises. Students will be able to go beyond an elementary understanding of numerical simulation and develop deep insights into the foundations of the subject. They will no longer have to accept the mathematical gaps that exist in current textbooks. For example, both necessary and sufficient conditions for convergence of basic iterative methods are covered, and proofs are given in full generality, not just based on special cases. The book is accessible to undergraduate mathematics majors as well as computational scientists wanting to learn the foundations of the subject. Presents the mathematical foundations of numerical analysis Explains the mathematical details behind simulation software Introduces many advanced concepts in modern analysis Self-contained and mathematically rigorous Contains problems and solutions in each chapter Excellent follow-up course to Principles of Mathematical Analysis by Rudin
