Book Synopsis Electron Decay Branching Ratio of the Pion by : Alan Strelzoff
Download or read book Electron Decay Branching Ratio of the Pion written by Alan Strelzoff and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ratio of the pion decay rates for the processes, pi yields e + nu and pi yields mu + nu was measured. A large NaI (tl) crystal was used to separate the high energy pion decay electrons from the continuous spectrum of the pi-mu-e chain. Counting decay electrons immediately following a pion stop, the ratio by a direct comparison of pi-e and pi-mu-e electrons was determined. From an observed 10,891 pi-e electrons a precision of 1.8% was attained in the guantity (pion lifetime x branching ratio). Considering the present uncertainty in the pion lifetime the branching ratio, (1.247 = 0.028) x 10 to the -4 power is obtained. This is in good agreement with the theoretical value, 1.233 x 10 to the -4 power, required by the V-A theory when radiative corrections are included. (Author).

Book Synopsis Nuclear Physics in a Nutshell by : Carlos A. Bertulani
Download or read book Nuclear Physics in a Nutshell written by Carlos A. Bertulani and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2007-04-03 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Physics in a Nutshell provides a clear, concise, and up-to-date overview of the atomic nucleus and the theories that seek to explain it. Bringing together a systematic explanation of hadrons, nuclei, and stars for the first time in one volume, Carlos A. Bertulani provides the core material needed by graduate and advanced undergraduate students of physics to acquire a solid understanding of nuclear and particle science. Nuclear Physics in a Nutshell is the definitive new resource for anyone considering a career in this dynamic field. The book opens by setting nuclear physics in the context of elementary particle physics and then shows how simple models can provide an understanding of the properties of nuclei, both in their ground states and excited states, and also of the nature of nuclear reactions. It then describes: nuclear constituents and their characteristics; nuclear interactions; nuclear structure, including the liquid-drop model approach, and the nuclear shell model; and recent developments such as the nuclear mean-field and the nuclear physics of very light nuclei, nuclear reactions with unstable nuclear beams, and the role of nuclear physics in energy production and nucleosynthesis in stars. Throughout, discussions of theory are reinforced with examples that provide applications, thus aiding students in their reading and analysis of current literature. Each chapter closes with problems, and appendixes address supporting technical topics.

Book Synopsis Gauge Theory of Weak Interactions by : Walter Greiner
Download or read book Gauge Theory of Weak Interactions written by Walter Greiner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gauge Theory of Weak Interactions treats the unification of electromagnetic and weak interactions and considers related phenomena. First, the Fermi theory of beta decay is presented, followed by a discussion of parity violation, clarifying the importance of symmetries. Then the concept of a spontaneously broken gauge theory is introduced, and all necessary mathematical tools are carefully developed. The "standard model" of unified electroweak interactions is thoroughly discussed including current developments. The final chapter contains an introduction to unified theories of strong and electroweak interactions. Numerous solved examples and problems make this volume uniquely suited as a text for an advanced course. This third edition has been carefully revised.
Book Synopsis High Energy Electron-positron Physics by : Ahmed Ali
Download or read book High Energy Electron-positron Physics written by Ahmed Ali and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1988 with total page 896 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the termination of the physics program at PETRA, and with the start of TRISTAN and the SLC and later LEP, an era of e+e- physics has come to an end and a new one begins. The field is changing from a field of few specialists, to becoming one of the mainstream efforts of the high energy community. It seems appropriate at this moment to summarize what has been learned over the past years, in a way most useful to any high energy physicists, in particular to newcomers in the e+e- field. This is the purpose of the book. This book should be used as a reference for future workers in the field of e+e- interactions. It includes the most relevant data, parametrizations, theoretical background, and a chapter on detectors.

This book was released on 1997-05-08 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Market: Researchers and graduate students in high energy physics, physics historians. This book contains 13 papers that reflect the development of neutrino interactions with the electrons and protons in a fixed-target experiment that, beginning in 1980, grew out of the formal collaboration in high energy physics between Japanese and American institutions. These experiments were crucial to the merger of quantum electrodynamics and quantum weak dynamics, the foundation of electroweak theory today.
